In the late 1940s and early 1950s, despite clear evidence that Sen. Joe McCarthy was a drunk and a demagogue, many people blindly followed his lead, even when he accused President Dwight Eisenhower's administration of treason.
I consider Eisenhower the best president of my lifetime, and before he entered the White House, he had taken on the gigantic task of leading the Allies to victory over Germany in World War II.
During that same war, McCarthy forged documents to make it appear he saw combat he never saw, and wangled a Purple Heart for a boo-boo he actually sustained when he got tipsy during a party aboard ship. Then, using one of the worst smear campaigns in U.S. political history, he got himself elected to the Senate. McCarthy and Eisenhower were in the same party, but Ike referred to him as ''that skunk.''
The word ''McCarthyism'' is now part of our language, defined in my dictionary as ''the practice of making accusations of disloyalty  based on doubtful evidence.'' McCarthy's decline, thank heavens, came swiftly, but McCarthyism is what happens when the lunatic fringe is taken seriously.
Sadly, the lessons of what can happen when people are stupid enough to believe the lunatic fringe did not stick.
Today, many Americans blindly follow the lead of radio and TV talkers like Rush Limbaugh and Glenn Beck, despite clear evidence that Beck is a junkie, a drunk and a demagogue, that Limbaugh is a junkie and a liar, and that both are among a flock of lunatic fringe commentators who make accusations against the Obama administration based on doubtful evidence.
As reported in Thursday's paper, Easton's State Theatre plans to host an appearance by Beck in January, despite protests over his racist comments.(continued)

So sense doing that. He’s beyond common sense. He’s inside the obama halo and extraction is very difficult.
Patton was right. Only now, we’re engaging them in our own govt.
Standard dimrat buttwipe. Attack the person, not the ideas.
Keep insulting people you fat ugly b*stard. That's about all people like you know how to do. You have no substance to your argument just lies and insults. If anyone is blindly following someone it's people like you.
I didn’t see any substance to this so-called article that anything either Rush or Beck has said isn’t true. He just took the opportunity to call them names. Big deal. He’s fat & ugly. Nah, nah, nah.
Is that all it takes to call yourself a journalist these days? Where’s my paycheck?

“Crack-Head” Paul Carpenter seems to have forgotten to take his medicine.
D.D.Eisenhower wasnt’t President went Joe McCarthy made his substantiated allegations.
McCarthy was precisely correct in exposing numerous Soviet spies in our government.
Harry Dexter White, Assistant Secretary of the Treasury, Robert Oppenheimer, and Alger Hiss, personal advisor of FDR, were all Soviet spies.
Read “Blacklisted By History” The untold story of Senator Joe McCarthy and his fight against America’s enemies.
By M. Stanton Evans.
Excellent book.
McCarthy was 100% correct about the communist infiltration of various organizations in the U.S..
Wow... someones all we weed up!
I guess it doesn't matter if you don't get the facts correct.
We saw much in The Morning Call about the Tea Party nonsense, but there has been little about Beck's latest lunatic fringe crusade. His big ''9/12 Project'' is set for next weekend in Washington.
I didn't realize Beck was organizing this 'crusade'. lol!
despite clear evidence that Beck is a junkie, a drunk
Beck has admitted to being an alcholic and where is your proof that he is a junkie, lard *ss? It looks like you have had a few sips of the stuff yourself, Mr. red face lunatic.
You expect kooks like this one to actually use FACTS? Besides, McCarthy was RIGHT!
And BAM! Proof that had McCain been elected the left would have been going after him for being born in Panama.
Done!!!
Right you are (again),Sir!
Three words...
The Venona intercepts.
I refer you to a book by M Stanton Evans, “Blacklisted by History.” There are no substantive pictures, so you might be at a disadvantage but it certainly goes the distance in underscoring that McCarthy was right whatever personal foibles he may have had.
“Smear campaign:” Where have I heard that before?
“In the late 1940s and early 1950s, despite clear evidence that Sen. Joe McCarthy was a drunk and a demagogue”
Correction: Senator Joseph McCarthy was a Patriot and he was right. The Communism he talked about has born the fruit you see in Washington now.
Barack Obama is also a McCarthy - Charlie McCarthy. The NWO make his jaw go up and down.
Since Joe McCarthy was in the House, not the Senate, the author must be referring to Senator Kerry, right? The description sure fits.
