I have been lurking since 2000, and have not posted before. I haven't seen this posted as an idea, and think that it's a great time to propose this what with the healthcare debate, Rangel, et al.
This is a great idea. Don’t expect Congress to pay any attention to it.
term limits as well
It’s long past time that members of Congress must also abide by the laws they require the rest of us to live by and that they pass. Maybe if that were the case, they would actually start reading all those bills before they pass them and make them written in more plain language that even a layman can understand. I think that such a piece of legislation would be applauded by our founding fathers. So shall it be written, so let it be done.
I suspect that a constitutional amendment would be necessary. Good idea, in cany case.
I understand the concept, but it doesn’t make any sense. For example, with the KennedyKare bill, they will simply add language that says “Any health plan offered to members of Congress shall be deemed to be in compliance with this section.” They are already ‘subject’ to the laws they pass, they just create there own loopholes.
I believe that there is also a Constitutional requirement that the President be “natural born”, but that doesn’t seem to have made any difference. We have a kenyan dictator sitting in the Oval Office surrounded by his “Czars” and wiping his butt with the Constitution.
Thank you all for your input & encouragement. I will look into how this is done, but would appreciate any info, advice provided.
A strict reading of the constitution would reveal
that these actions are already unconstitutional.
So an additional amendment would only restate
what is already there.
Find an influential politician and propose the idea to him/her.
I might nominate Sarah Palin.
What about the 14th amendment? Will legal and /or illegal aliens be forced to comply with these mandates? Suppose, one could renounce their citizenship to avoid these mandates. Why should anyone be forced to accept government insurance anyway when one could never opt out? A person can avoid paying taxes by not making income, a person can avoid car insurance by not owning or driving a car. But, the only way to avoid government or mandated health care is to stop living? This is an impossible affront to the natural law and our God given rights.
Constitutional amendment would be a tough one — but if the RNC gets smart, it will cement this into the party platform for the next two elections.
This should be law now, and I support it, and I bet a large portion of America would, democrats, independents and republicans...
Rush Limbaugh used to regularly feature laws that Congress is exempt from in his show, so it would be surprising not to have seen this idea floated. That is, other than the fact that it has very little chance of actually taking place. “Lurking since 2000” — That’s a long time. Welcome to FR.
“How naive .”
Sounds like a good idea to me.
Yes ,,,, great idea ,,,,,, you’d have to be VERY NAIVE to think it would ever happen in our congress .
OK !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
By the way welcome to FreeRepublic ,,, I mean nothing personal in my ping ,,, I still dream of a better America too . We should always strive to get there .
