Like many Americans, I was immensely saddened by the death of Sen. Edward M. Kennedy. The nation has lost a steadfast supporter for marine conservation and environmental science.
The last time I spoke with Sen. Kennedy was a few months ago by phone. After welcoming me warmly to my new position at NOAA and thanking me for my public service, he expressed strong interest in partnering with us to ensure healthy commercial fisheries and healthy oceans in his beloved New England.

Yes, NOAA in some regard is one of the more appropriate agencies to comment his passing.
Yeah! None of them goddam windmills off the coast of my family retreat....nosiree.....I’m a friend of nature....wait....even though windmills are a friend of nature.....they aren’t exactly a friend of MY nature....RIH Kennedy.
Yes, I’m sure Senator Kennedy was immensely interested in the New England fishing industry as long as they stayed away from Martha’s Vinyard or any other place where Teddy and family wanted to sail.
Not only was he a waste of food, he was a waste of skin. For all of his money (that he filched from the American taxpayer by catering to every anti-American special interest group in existence) he really wasn’t worth the air he breathed.

Dear Doctor Jane
I take umbrage to your use of a government website to express your personal views on the occasion of the demise of Senator Ted Kennedy.
This man was directly responsible for policies which have resulted in the bankruptcy of the United States of America. While there is plenty of blame to share, Ted was the “lion of the Senate” and so history will accord him the lion’s share of the blame.
This nation is now over 50 trillion dollars in debt. In the coming years, please do not squabble or complain about the meager share of funding left over for the good work of NOAA. As a senator, TED KENNEDY squandered this money long ago.
On a personal note, Mr. Kennedy brought great tragedy to the lives of innocent people. He was never held to account. Perhaps you are OK with that. I am not.
As for me, I mourn more for those innocent victims on this day, than any supposed public good that this man accomplished.
Too bad we can’t bury all of this slime’s legislation along with him.
