At the FReeper Canteen!
C'mon and take a break ! Walk on over to the water cooler and lets chat. Post your thoughts, opinions, news of the day, rantings, ravings, pontificates, hypothesis, hyperboles, your soap box cause, your mantra, your baggage, your garbage, your blogging, your secrets, whatever you feel would make talk around the water cooler real interesting!
Please remember that The Canteen is here to support and entertain our troops and veterans and their families, and is family friendly.

A little humor....
Perks Of Old Age
1. Kidnappers are not very interested in you.
2. In a hostage situation you are likely to be released first.
3. No one expects you to run into a burning building.
4. People call at 9 PM and ask, Did I wake you?
5. People no longer view you as a hypochondriac.
6. There is nothing left to learn the hard way.
7. Things you buy now wont wear out.
8. You can eat dinner at 4 P.M.
9. You can live without sex but not without glasses.
10. You enjoy hearing about other peoples operations.
11. You get into heated arguments about pension plans.
12. You have a party and the neighbors dont even realize it.
13. You no longer think of speed limits as a challenge.
14. You quit trying to hold your stomach in, no matter who walks into the room.
15. You sing along with elevator music.
16. Your eyes wont get much worse.
17. Your investment in health insurance is finally beginning to pay off.
18. Your joints are more accurate meteorologists than the national weather service.
19. Your secrets are safe with your friends because they cant remember them either.
20. Your supply of brain cells is finally down to manageable size.

What is the weirdest thing you have ever eaten????
Bugs?
Durian?
Armadillo?
Rattlesnake?
Sweeetbreads?
Roadkill cusine?
Chocolate Gravy & Biscuits
Biscuits: 1 or 2 cans of "whop" biscuits (these are the ones that come in the little tube at the store and you have to "whop" them on the counter to open the tube.) Bake as directed.
Chocolate Gravy 3 tablespoons of flour 2 tablespoons of cocoa powder 4 tablespoons of granulated sugar 2 cups of milk 2 tablespoons of butter 1 teasoon of vanilla
Mix dry ingredients in shallow pan on stovetop until they're completely combined. Add milk and stir. Cook on medium to medium high heat until it bubbles and thickens. Add butter and vanilla. Stir. Chunk up biscuits and pour chocolate gravy over the top. Enjoy!
Great fun for the kids!:) |

Our shower and storms seemed to have clamed down just a bit. We did pick up almost an inch of rain.

.....Fried corn here, at least my household, involves bacon & bacon grease. *grin*......
This summer, tomatoes and Ro’sen ears are plentiful. We have fried corn two or three times a week. There are just two of us so when my wife fixes a batch of corn it lasts a day or two.
The bacon grease has been watered down with a little olive oil to temper the fat but the flavor is still there.
The tomatoes are so plentiful this year we are forced to eat them twice or three times a day. They grow faster than we can eat ‘em. :)

WELCOME TO
(where our troops, allies and their families can refresh themselves)
Good morning, Everyone.
Good morning to our AWESOME Military, our Allies, and their families.
Thank you, Connie, for preparing the Canteen for today's activities. Let's see, what kind of scuttlebutt can I come up with?
Our local DC Metroland weather report
~ Today.....A mix of clouds and sun. High 88F. Winds NE at 5 to 10 mph.
~ Tonight..... Partly cloudy skies this evening. A few showers developing late. Low around 70F. Winds light and variable. Chance of rain 30%.
Dr. Albert Schweitzer had a pet pelican named Parsifal.
There was only one pointer, the hour hand, on the first clocks made in the fourteenth century. The minute and seconds hands were added in the sixteenth and seventeenth centuries.
Levan, Utah is "navel" spelled backwards. It was so named because it is in the middle of Utah.
The Empire State Building (1,250 feet) exceeds the height of the Eiffel Tower (984.5 feet) by only 265.5 feet.
Not exactly rumors or gossip, but still something to think about. I'll move along and see whatz been happening in the Canteen.
But, you stay right where you are. Keep the troops entertained and the Canteen clean.........Cause.......if you don't........I'll tell Ma!
Remember, the Canteen is ALWAYS
So, come on in and sit for a while. There's always plenty of coffee, pancakes, conversation, silliness, and plain old BS
REMEMBER THEM ....
DEFENDERS OF FREEDOM
FR CANTEEN MISSION STATEMENT Showing support and boosting the morale of our military and our allied military and the family members of the above. Honoring those who have served before.

Well, we may have had .2 yesterday. The local weather said we are over 32 inches behind for the past 23 months. That is the equivalent of one years worth of rain.

Prayers for Madison—that her foot might be spared
and that she have the strength to go through all that she
will be required to endure in her little life.
God provide strength and courage to her family, who love
her dearly.

((LOL))Well, as you can tell it's been quite a busy last few hours. We did get almost an inch of rain from last night's storms.
Not much hail or wind but quite a bit of lightning. We almost lost power several times during the round of storms.

Yes, it is going to be hot again - but this is Texas and it is summer.
At the current rate we are headed for a record of 100+ days here.
