NYT: DEMS PLAN TO GO IT ALONE ON HEATHCARE... DEVELOPING...

Democrats see little chance for GOP cooperation on health care

WASHINGTON — Given hardening Republican opposition to congressional health care proposals, Democrats now say they see little chance for the minority's cooperation in approving any overhaul, and are increasingly focused on drawing support for a final plan from within their own ranks.

Top Democrats said Tuesday that their go-it-alone view was being shaped by what they saw as Republicans' purposely strident tone against health care legislation during this month's congressional recess, as well as remarks by leading Republicans that current proposals were flawed beyond repair.

The White House spokesman, Robert Gibbs, said of Republican lawmakers, "Only a handful seem interested in the type of comprehensive reform that so many people believe is necessary to ensure the principles and the goals that the president has laid out."

The Democratic shift may not make producing a final bill much easier. The party must still reconcile the views of moderate and conservative Democrats worried about the cost and scope of the legislation with those of more progressive lawmakers determined to win a government-run insurance option to compete with private insurers..........

If it passes, it’s there forever. Obama will not sign a bill that repeals it.

I hope Inhofe is right in his counts. It appeared Graham made his claim with a pretty high level of certainty.

If the dems had any cojones, and weren't just seeking cover for when the inevitable explosion happens (if/when that happens, the most popular phrase coming from Reid, Pelosi and Obama would be 'this BIPARTISAN overhaul of our health insurance industry") they would have said at the beginning what they really feel--which is that they don't give a damn what republicans or anyone else thinks.

But they are cowards. Always have been. They have their dreams, but they haven't the courage of their convictions.

The House has the power of the purse, so although Obama may be able to veto anything he doesn’t like, the House can starve his programs by not appropriating money for them.

If they think that the remonstrance is bad now, wait until the public finds out about this. The remonstrance will rival and may surpass the anti-war protests of the ‘60’s.

I have a feeling that this will blow up in the dems faces in September. Waterloo, Midway, Stalingrad.....all rolled up into one.

Allow me to fix: Given hardening Republican and national opposition to congressional health care proposals, Democrats now say they see little chance for the minority's cooperation in approving any overhaul, and are increasingly focused on drawing support for a final plan from within their own ranks.

Watching these Dems fight each other is the funniest thing I’ve seen in my entire life.

I agree with that - if we get enough conservatives elected and not mushy ‘let’s all just get along’ RINOs.

I wonder if all those sheepeople who thought it would be so cool to vote for a “historic” president, will find the destruction of our health care as “historic” as they find the color of a man’s skin.

The dems are having a juvenile snit because they can’t get their own way.

Marxist dems really believe they are the smartest and most caring people in the world. They have been telling each other that for decades. Therefore, it totally confounds the commie dem elite that a sane or intelligient person—like them—could possibly find fault with what they want to do.

Of course, the treat to go it alone presupposes they can get sufficient numbers of Blue Dog Dems to go along with them. Right now it appears the Blue Dogs, via the town halls, have gotten the message that a vote for Obamacare equals being voted out of office. And many of these Blue Dog Dems are coming up for reelection over the next two voting cycles.

The patriots who wrote our Constitution were tryly brilliant people.

But if they actually pass it and Zero signs it, wont that be difficult to reverse?

I mean you do not hear any Republicans out there saying, lets scrub the prescription drug plan for seniors.

It isn’t just *Republicans* in the government who are opposed to this healthcare plan.

It’s real people.

They just don’t get it.

We see that nonsense like this is just down the road for us....

Thousands of surgeries may be cut in Metro Vancouver (Woe, Canada!)

All those libs and dems were so excited about having control of the House, the Senate, and the White House, because now they could *fix* the country from having it *ruined* by Republican policies.

Nice job guys......

Way to screw the country.

I sure hope so. Voters tend to have too short a memory.

I’m afraid that the first dem that comes around at election time promising his constituents *free* handouts, will get re-elected in a heartbeat.

Nah, I don't think it'll happen. In the end, they don't have the guts to go it alone unless they can hide behind the skirts of the usual suspects.

Skirts, coulottes, bloomers...whatever...they'll make them from whole cloth.

If the pubs help, they hide behind the "bi-partisan" skirt.

If the Pubs don't help, they hide behind the "party of NO fought the better bill!" skirt.

IOW, no matter what the GOP does, the dems will blame them for anything bad, and take credit for any manufactured good news.

And the GOP will be stunned at this predictable result.
