Scientists from Scotland and Singapore have unraveled a mystery that has perplexed scientists since red wine was first discovered to have health benefits: how does resveratrol control inflammation? New research published in the August 2009 print issue of The FASEB Journal, not only explains resveratrol's one-two punch on inflammation, but also show how it - or a derivative -can be used to treat potentially deadly inflammatory disease, such as appendicitis, peritonitis, and systemic sepsis.

Which kind of red wine has the most resveratrol? Cabernet Sauvignon? Shiraz? Merlot? Pinot noir? or, G-d forbid, Tunderbird?

There’s alcohol-free beer too.

Roger that. I take a daily supplement containing 150mg of pure resveratrol, equivalent to drinking a few hundred glasses of red wine (without the alcohol content).

Not a thing. I also drink red wine, occasionally. But the amount of resveratrol contained in 1 or 2 glasses of red wine is extremely small. You would have to drink hundreds of glasses of wine daily to get the equivalent amount of resveratrol that I get in the daily supplement I take.

I prefer white - a nice Pinot Grigio or Riesling
Wonder if the magic chemical present in white...

Real men now drink Malbec, formerly used to fortify weak blends, it has now come on as a strong STRONG contenda from Argentina.
Think Shiraz on steroids.

Of course, by the 23rd century, only replicated synthahol beverages will be available, so Captain Kirk et al will probably be suffering with abdominal pain.
