If you have ever seen the Hitchcock movie Rope you see the character of liberals on display in educated elitist murders of the tale.

So superior, so intelligent, so gifted they are convinced they should be allowed to murder for no other reason than their superiority.

This is the face of the liberalism.

"they know their own insider status ensures that they are exempt from the harsh medicine they advocate for others"

This is the key. If the politicians want to stick us with government health care, sin taxes, carbon offsets, etc. they better apply it to themselves first.

I would suggest that ALgore and that nitwit freidman contribute to carbon reduction by removing themselves from the gene pool. I estimate that would cool the earth by 1* C in less than 3 weeks.

I saw this comment on a blog (Instapundit) that is relevant to the article. I’m going from my dubious memory but I think it goes like this; I’ll believe it’s a crisis when those who say its a crisis start acting like its a crisis.

Talk show host Mike McConnell loves to berate elites for their hypocrisy on a variety of issues. He calls them out by demanding they give up their cushy, high-paying jobs to to “minorities” (re:affirmative action) since they (the elites) demand middle-class Americans give up theirs. What’s good for the goose is good for the gander.

Al Gore is such a riot! He thinks that he can live "carbon neutral" and jump on his private jet by paying some guy in Bangladesh a few bucks to eat cold food for the rest of his life. He doesn't see any problem with this. Gargantuan hubris. Abysmal ignorance.

“Friedman lives on a sprawling estate reminiscent of the grandees of the 18th-century English countryside.”

Friedman IS a grandee of the 18th century.

So is Gore.

Don’t you get it? We are their slaves.

And they say so, but only among themselves, and in private.

Ever been in New York and seen the “fly over country maps” depicting only NYC and maybe LA as important ???-— everything else (Bush Country) is dust, dirt, a few animals, and a few slaves.

Woo woo.

Self loathing sells to that small class of white libs who for an instant enjoy the raptorous attention of the rest of the Democratic hate machine. Watch Bill Maher’s show, the man goes into ectasy when he bashes the “rednecks” to the applause of his guests and his small audience.

Thing is, Democrats are never called angry, even when they’re furious, even when they call police officers “stupid.”

Only Republicans and conservatives are “angry.” Democrats are “passionate.”

I just don’t understand why more American don’t see this. They should be disgusted by Gore, Gates, Dodd, and Edwards etc. and I don’t see nearly enough disgust. Maybe it’s because the media covers for them.

Great article ping! Excerpt:

Do the wealthy and the powerful lecture us about our wrongs because they know their own insider status ensures that they are exempt from the harsh medicine they advocate for others? Millionaire Gore is not much affected by higher taxes for his cap-and-trade crusade.

Or does the hypocrisy grow out of a sort of class snobbery? Do elites hector the crass middle class because it lacks their own taste, rare insight and privileged style? Judging from the police report, Gates seemed flabbergasted that the white Cambridge cop did not know who he was "messing" with...

Oh, yeah. The greatest propaganda success of the late 20th century was when these elitist clowns on the left managed to tag the Republicans with that label. It's the reason a "man of the people" such as John Effin' or Barack Hussein can appear mystified by the complexities of propelling a baseball some sixty feet six inches, unopposed, into a waiting and sympathetic receptacle held by a fellow who really is elite, and whose antecedents are unlikely to have included yachting or luncheon in a Cambridge cafe.

There is a similar but distinct con game behind the ability of academic poltroons such as Professor Gates to pretend that their backs bear scars from the slavers. Kerry was never a working man but Gates is black; both are scam artists milking a living out of membership in the respective classes. Both are wealthy, pampered, arrogant, and elitist. Neither is actually particularly elite, at least in terms of actual ability.

In short, the ruling class is uneasy because its members know perfectly well that by their own putative standards they are unworthy. Here at least the aristocracy of old Europe is superior, its unassailable standard being birth and not ability. That society started going to hell when malodorous merchants began to encroach upon the privileges accorded by possession of the Habsburg lip; ours began that slide when citizens first began to mistake loud, self-aggrandizing snake-oil salesmen for leaders when in fact the Republic is based not on leadership, but representation. The sort of leader typified by an 0bama or a Kerry is that of a bellwether goat who leads the sheep peacefully to slaughter secure in the knowledge that he himself will avoid the blade. One follows that sort of elitist at one's peril.

Once again, Victor Davis Hanson nails it.

The 'liberal' elitists are finally becoming transparent to the people that actually make this country work: the middle class. The elitists - liberal Democrats - wring their hands and agonize over 'the poor' while pretending to be almost as 'concerned' about the condition of the middle class. Unfortunately, their 'concern' evaporates once an election is over and they've won. Then come more taxes, more laws and regulations that only seem to affect small business owners and middle class workers. Then, the elites lecture the rest of us about how 'racist' or 'stingy' we are if we don't sign on to their wealth distribution schemes.

By the next election, the leftist elites (mostly Democrat politicians) are pandering to the middle class again (with lip service only) and bleating about 'the poor', who usually are poor only because they haven't learned how to latch on to the myriad 'benefits' available - just for being (statistically) poor - from the federal, state and local government. The political elites demonize 'the rich' and work hard to generate class envy between the middle class and 'the rich' (anyone making more than you are).

Enter Barack Hussein Obama and the extreme leftists that support and promote him and his Marxist agenda for America. What Michelle Obama once referred to as 'a mean country'. Not so mean that she couldn't be handed a 'job' paying well over $6,000. per week, the minute her husband was elected to the U.S. senate. A 'job' that disappeared as quickly as it came when her husband was sworn in as the elected president of the United States. Obama's infamous 'clinging to their guns and religion' comment during the '08 campaign also said much about his elitist self-image....as if there were any doubt.

That the elitists scornfully look down their noses at the average, middle-class American comes into even sharper in focus when you consider how they've endlessly criticized and insulted (former) Alaska Governor Sarah Palin. The elite media have gone far beyond the norm in attacking Palin's intelligence, appearance, values and character - for months on end. And she is not even a candidate! This demonstrates the political and media elite's deep-seated disdain for the average hard-working middle class American. Palin is a perfect example of the middle class; intelligent but minus the Ivy League degree (she graduated from the University of Idaho with a Bachelor of Science degree in 1987). A committed Christian, devoted wife and mother and a successful local politician with a politically conservative ideology. This is anathema to the leftist elitists and they have attacked this good woman mercilessly (for almost a full year, now) because of it, belying their usual protestations of being enamored and 'concerned' about the middle class. Bull!

The elitists effectively spit in the face of the middle class at every juncture. From quietly approving of abortion-on-demand to ruining the once decent quality of the public school curriculum to attempting to secularize a country that is (at least by self-identification) overwhelmingly religious the leftist elites have done much wholly intentional damage. Hacking away at the crucial underpinnings of what was a very admirable society and powerful force for good in the world. The U.S. middle class is a vital part of the nation's strength, and the elitists hate it. Their attacks on Sarah Palin are simply a good example of how much they hate it - and all of us.

Sadly, the voters have put people in power that despise them and will destroy this nation from within if left unchecked. They must not be allowed to reach their goal. Fortunately, even if flawed, this is still a democracy. The liberal elites can be vanquished. At least until the country returns to apathy and complacency, once again, as it likely will. For now, the battle is on against those who would destroy America, spurn it's time-tested values and oppress the once-vibrant middle class, striving to improve their lot and by doing so, making America the envy of the world - and the target of authoritarian-minded elitists who would reduce our great nation to second-class status, by design. They must fail.
