Our Angry Aristocracy
National Review Online ^ | 7/30/09 | Victor Davis Hanson

Posted on 07/29/2009 11:24:44 PM PDT by Luke21

Scolding Americans for our various sins is proving popular among an elite group of self-appointed moralists.

Take well-meaning environmentalists who warn us that our plush lifestyles heat up and pollute the planet. To listen to former vice president Al Gore or New York Times columnist Thomas Friedman, we must immediately curtail our carbon emissions — or face planetary destruction.

Yet these influential prophets of doom do not have lives remotely similar to the lesser folk they lecture. From time to time, Al Gore hops on a private jet — and purchases “carbon offsets” as penances for the privilege. His mansion not long ago consumed more energy in a month than the average American home does in a year. Friedman lives on a sprawling estate reminiscent of the grandees of the 18th-century English countryside.

If you have ever seen the Hitchcock movie Rope you see the character of liberals on display in educated elitist murders of the tale.

So superior, so intelligent, so gifted they are convinced they should be allowed to murder for no other reason than their superiority.

This is the face of the liberalism.

"they know their own insider status ensures that they are exempt from the harsh medicine they advocate for others"

This is the key. If the politicians want to stick us with government health care, sin taxes, carbon offsets, etc. they better apply it to themselves first.

I would suggest that ALgore and that nitwit freidman contribute to carbon reduction by removing themselves from the gene pool. I estimate that would cool the earth by 1* C in less than 3 weeks.

Notice how these people lecture us from their high perches and then set us up for a new scam.

I saw this comment on a blog (Instapundit) that is relevant to the article. I’m going from my dubious memory but I think it goes like this; I’ll believe it’s a crisis when those who say its a crisis start acting like its a crisis.

Talk show host Mike McConnell loves to berate elites for their hypocrisy on a variety of issues. He calls them out by demanding they give up their cushy, high-paying jobs to to “minorities” (re:affirmative action) since they (the elites) demand middle-class Americans give up theirs. What’s good for the goose is good for the gander.

The stance of Gore, Friedman, Prince Charles, and others of their ilk make perfect sense. If only a tiny slice of the world’s population, elitists and swells like Gore, Friedman, etc., live in palatial estates heated to 72 degrees in the winter and cooled to 68 in the summer, and jet around the globe in private jets sniffing down their nose at the unwashed masses below, that’s sustainable. But when we the unwashed masses, Joe Sixpacks and our ilk, start living in big houses, heated and cooled to our comfort, and hauling our boats behind our Canyonero SUV’s up to the lake for the weekend, that’s not sustainable. They have to put us back in our place to ensure that they can continue in their lavish lifestyles.

Al Gore is such a riot! He thinks that he can live "carbon neutral" and jump on his private jet by paying some guy in Bangladesh a few bucks to eat cold food for the rest of his life. He doesn't see any problem with this. Gargantuan hubris. Abysmal ignorance.

“Friedman lives on a sprawling estate reminiscent of the grandees of the 18th-century English countryside.”

Friedman IS a grandee of the 18th century.

So is Gore.

Don’t you get it? We are their slaves.

And they say so, but only among themselves, and in private.

Ever been in New York and seen the “fly over country maps” depicting only NYC and maybe LA as important ???-— everything else (Bush Country) is dust, dirt, a few animals, and a few slaves.

Woo woo.

Self loathing sells to that small class of white libs who for an instant enjoy the raptorous attention of the rest of the Democratic hate machine. Watch Bill Maher’s show, the man goes into ectasy when he bashes the “rednecks” to the applause of his guests and his small audience.

Thing is, Democrats are never called angry, even when they’re furious, even when they call police officers “stupid.”

Only Republicans and conservatives are “angry.” Democrats are “passionate.”
