Talk show host Mike McConnell loves to berate elites for their hypocrisy on a variety of issues. He calls them out by demanding they give up their cushy, high-paying jobs to to “minorities” (re:affirmative action) since they (the elites) demand middle-class Americans give up theirs. What’s good for the goose is good for the gander.
The stance of Gore, Friedman, Prince Charles, and others of their ilk make perfect sense. If only a tiny slice of the world’s population, elitists and swells like Gore, Friedman, etc., live in palatial estates heated to 72 degrees in the winter and cooled to 68 in the summer, and jet around the globe in private jets sniffing down their nose at the unwashed masses below, that’s sustainable. But when we the unwashed masses, Joe Sixpacks and our ilk, start living in big houses, heated and cooled to our comfort, and hauling our boats behind our Canyonero SUV’s up to the lake for the weekend, that’s not sustainable. They have to put us back in our place to ensure that they can continue in their lavish lifestyles.
I just finished a master’s level diversity class where this textbook author continually ranted and raved about “white privilege.” I suggested to the instructor that this fellow take the bullet and show us how to give up his high paying, tenured position to minorities.
The instructor actually got a kick out of it.
