The conspiracy theorists who have claimed for more than a year that President Obama is not a United States citizen have found receptive ears among some mainstream media figures in recent weeks.
Despite ample evidence to the contrary, the countrys most popular talk radio host, Rush Limbaugh, told his listeners on Tuesday that Mr. Obama has yet to have to prove that hes a citizen. Lou Dobbs of CNN said that Mr. Obama should do more to dispel the claims. Larry King, also of CNN, asked guests about it. Chris Matthews debated it with guests on MSNBC, and NBC Nightly News even did a segment debunking the theory.
Cable news is often stretched for news in the summer, but the birth certificate case has been fueled by the combustible combination of luck, compelling video, media-savvy doubters and an outlandish topic.
The theory that Mr. Obama was born in Kenya, his fathers homeland, first took root among some staunchly conservative elements. In response, the Obama campaign scanned the candidates certification of live birth from Hawaiis department of health and published it on the Internet. Numerous third parties have examined and confirmed the birth certificate and concluded that it met the requirements for citizenship.
This smear was thoroughly debunked during the election, said Eric Burns, the president of Media Matters for America, a liberal media monitoring organization.
But advocates of the issue, who are sometimes termed birthers, called attention to themselves through frequent calls to talk radio shows, e-mail messages to news organizations and a videotaped question at a Congressional town hall.

I think the strategy is to saturate this issue with coverage so it drowns in its own noise.
No such thing as bad publicity. NYT is giving this issue a big spotlight like this.
ROTFLOL!
Defending the Constitution itself is not racist.
In fact there are many behaviors exhibited by whites towards minorities that are simply not racist.
“In other words, it’s a typical NYT hit piece. “
I will laugh until sick if Pinch loses the Times to that Mexican monopolist ;-)
If he had nothing to hide, he would have released a copy of the Birth Certificate (by 'scanning and publishing' on the internet) rather than the probably falsified COLB that they pawned off as official.
This reminds me of John Kerry and his refusal to sign the Form 180, which have yet to see also.
Meanwhile, now CNN says his long form birth certificate was destroyed in 2001. That's funny, since this directly contradicts Dr. Chiyome Fukino, Director of Health for the State of Hawaii, who in October, 2008 stated that she and the Registrar of Vital Statistics (who has statutory authority to oversee and maintain these type of vital records) have personally seen and verified that the Hawaii State Department of Health has Sen. Obamas original birth certificate on record in accordance with state policies and procedures, ... hat tip to Freeper avacado
Someone's not telling the truth. The plot thickens?
Precisely what I had originally intended to post but which I saw as being true about all, every NYT article hardly “printed to fit” nowadays.
Right, government doesn’t destroy original documents. If you are searching for one using microfilm and request to see the original, it’s available. Most recent records are kept in files inside the courthouse, or recorder’s office, etc. and the earlier ones are in storage, you fill out a request and someone will go retrieve them for you.
Yeah, maybe you could get Dan Rather to fab one up for you on Word 98.
Until Obama releases his birth certificate, this issue is never going to go away. As his popularity declines, more and more people will come to doubt his eligibility. This is going to add to his political downfall.
When people become afraid of Obama or hate his policies, it will become quite appealing to believe he should never have been elected. “Where is the birth certificate?” is going to be in e-mails, blogs and other viral networks. The MSM will not be able to quell the groundswell.
I don’t have a clue whether or not he is not a natural born citizen. But it won’t really matter politically if he won’t produce the birth certificate. A majority may well come to doubt his eligibility. The Democrats will be in a panic out of fear that there may be proof that he has duped us all and they will have supported a fraud.
The MSM equates the certification of live birth from Hawaiis department of health to presenting an ID card when asked for a drivers license during a traffic stop. It’s good enough for them.
the key of course to the article is leaving out natural born,a phrase which it would not surprise me to learn,a substantial portion of voters have no clue about. Thus if it ever came out that6 hes not natural born it will be dismissed in a flurry of hand wringing accompanied by “i never knew!” or,”why make that a law? they weren’t being inclusive.”
Just in case you and other Freepers missed seeing this video of Lou Dobbs questioning Obama's man it is not to be missed! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bvYcFgXCJrE
Just in case you and others missed seeing this clip, it is not to be missed! Watch Obama's man get so very upset! Fun right to the end. Is the pressure on?? You Betcha! :) http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bvYcFgXCJrE
There, fixed it.
Yep, that proves it alright. Because we all know that nothing is ever Photoshopped first before being posted on the Internet.
With the help of an obama relation in Kenya who claimed she was present at his birth there?
It may be TOO LATE! There are now some constitutional/legislative theologians who say that even IF the DemocRAT votes COULD be found to impeach him, that Obama is legally UNIMPEACHABLE, if in fact he is not a native-born American. They say that, because then he would never have been eligible to hold the office in the first place, and so is NOT the President, and thus CANNOT be impeached! The articles simply would NOT APPLY to him. If so, HOW would he be removed from the White House? Perhaps via an ordinary EVICTION process?
It’s pretty much becoming the elephant in the room. I just received an email that had nothing to do with politics but it tied in a question about whether he’s even a citizen. It’s getting serious if people from all walks are starting to focus on this.
