Broadcast journalist Walter Cronkite has died at age 92, The New York Times reports.
He’ll probably lie in state at the capitol.
I am sure Jane, John, and Henry are in mourning.
Thank you. Didn’t mean to seem flippant about it. I’m not a Catholic, but my wife is.
I am sure Jane, John, and Henry are in mourning.
although I know that Norman Lear is an unrepented liberal...I loved it when he had Archie Bunker call the CBS news anchor...” Pinko Cronkite”
Are we now obligated to declare Michael Jackson a great musician without mentioning his very questionable faults? That Cronkite was a beloved news man now obligates us to ignore his post-professional anti-American sentiments?
I am willing to acknowledge his importance in the grand scheme of American culture; can I not laugh at the irony that God dumped the news on a Friday?

WALTER L CRONKITE, JR
CLASS: NOVICE
I will remember him as the guy who single-handedly cost America the Vietnam War which led to the deaths of millions of people in SE Asia.
I became less of a fan of his as the years went by, but one of my best memories of Mr. Conkrite was during the space launches. I remember him sitting at a desk with a couple of models of, say, the lunar module, and he’d be playing with them like a little kid. I remember during the crisis with Apollo 13, he had these models on his desk and was demonstrating over and over what a “pitch” and “Yawl” were. I don’t remember now what those terms meant, but as I said, it was fun to watch him play.
Rest in Peace, Mr. Conkrite.
I have to note the early Walter Cronkite: his WW2 reporting, the “You are There” series which was one of the best and stands out as a striking bit of quality to the trash that passes for tv entertainment today, his reporting on the Kennedy assassination, his unabashed pride in and promotion of hte US space effort, and his convention and election nite reporting in the early 60s. But I also have to note the Cronkite of the past 40 years: open advocacy for US defeat in Vietnam, on the air all but endorsements of Demo political candidates, constant opinions passing for “news”, trashing of those with whom he disagreed. As a columnist, it would have been ok. As a journalist, it was reprehensible.
If he'd reported that one they way he wanted to the waist-gunner would have tossed him out the hatch over the Reich.
Sorry about double posting, just a little heated when I hit the button.
Radio was a great medium. My older brothers talk about it quite a bit. I enjoy listening to the old radio serials.
BTW foxnews.com is my homepage and its banner headline was Cronkite's death.
I did watch his final newscast in '81, having arrived home from college for spring break a few hours earlier. Also saw Blather's debut the following Monday. Even then I paid little attention to media slant (and didn't really until Slick Willie's arrival on the national radar screen).

Later I learned how much he lied to the American people about the Vietnam War, particularly the Tet Offensive, and I have zero respect for the man. More than that, I wonder if he doesn't have blood on his hands. Cambodian blood, at the very least.
I’m cracking open the champagne.
Another old socialist goes to answer for his crimes.
At least he has reduced his carbon footprint!
“Will we have wall to wall Cronkite coverage, ala MJ?”
*******
Doubtful. Few people under 35 even know who he was, much less care.
