As I was on my hands and knees with my trusty tools that include a handheld pick to pry away the clay, a steak knife and my paint brush with bindweed killer to brush the top of the root with weed killer, I realized that there is no better metaphor for a liberal than bindweed, they have so much in common.
Bind weed looks like a wild morning glory with pretty pink flowers, it is both a perennial and an annual. Once it becomes established, the roots can stay dormant for 25 years and go down as far as 75 feet and then run horizontally and come back up.
If you take a hoe to it, the root actually can split into as many as six new roots going of in every direction. So what you have done is spread it instead of kill it.
It is a very lazy weed, doesn't like doing anything for itself, it positions itself next to all of your beautiful roses and other flowering plants and comes up with it and wraps itself around the plant so tight that many times it kills the plant or pushes it over.
It has no use except to spread and kill. It survives in all kinds of soil and weather and the worse the soil the better it survives.
The best you can do is be vigilent weeding weekly to contain it. Since it puts itself in the protection of your favorite plants you can't take roundup to it and actually get rid of the plant. Even roundup just kills the first few inches. It will wait for another opening or go another way.
Liberals exist off of others until the others have nothing else to give, then they move on.
Liberals are patient, waiting years to take over another part of the economy or of our lives.
Liberals are dependent, they choke the life out of others in order to squeeze the last little freedom or tax dollar from them.
Once established, liberalism is almost impossible to get rid of, it takes more than a hand pick steak knife and weed killer.
Liberals don't ever go away they retreat and come up in another place with a new cause, always to take from those parts of the economy that are successful and to make them weak through regulation and taxes.
It is time to get rid of all of the bindweed in Congress, or we will find ourselves in the position that many farmers found in Nebraska and Kansas where whole farms were condemned and abandoned.
Liberalism will either spread and choke the life out of our great country or we will have to fight it every day of our lives.
And is Conservatism ROUNDUP?
And both Liberals and bindweed share a color. Pink.
Even roundup just kills the first few inches. It will wait for another opening or go another way.
You forgot yellow and white.
We should call it what it is: MARXISM!
It is like a train. Each new liberal socialist scheme is merely another station stop along the line. The train is **always** moving in the same direction. The final destination is, and always has been: COMMUNISM!
Scratch a liberal and under his thin skin is a socialist. Dig a little deeper and you will soon find the MARXIST nuclear fuel rod that drives everything he says and does.
Corollary I: ALL MARXISTS LIE!
Corollary II: **All** Marxists break the First Commandment. They worship Karl Marx instead of God.
Corollary III: Marxism is our nation’s greatest threat. Government K-12 schools are the Marxists’ most powerful weapon.
( Yes, I am shouting!)
Silly conservatives thought they won Prop 8!
Morning glories are hard to get rid of too.
Only with white flowers.
They only grow in one spot, but do try to climb up my garden plants.
I just cut down what I don't want and leave the pretty flowers there where they don't bother me.
I called them “wild morning glories” but I guess they are dem weed. Or blind weed was it? Oh BIND weed.
You could say that but it often takes many applications of conservatism (Roundup) and you have to hit it when it is healthy and growing to kill it. In conservative-safe (Roundup-safe) libertarians, independents and non-liberal Dimocrats(is there such a thing?) it can take up to 3 years of continual treatment to eradicate, although it starts getting weaker, which actually makes it harder to kill with conservatism (Roundup). Maybe we need a new tool, conservatism with the added potency of a new party (Super Roundup?).
It is often spread in bird crap so it can pop up anywhere but if you fight it as soon as you see it you have a better chance of quick and complete control.
Interesting. Another parallel is that since bindweed winds itself so tightly around the desirable plants, it must be very patiently unwound (as I was just having to do today). Makes me think of how socialism is getting tightly wrapped up into conservativism (leading to pseudo-conservativism and RINOs), and must be exposed and diligently dissected.
Rooted on either side a door one of each species grew
And raced towards the window-ledge above;
Each corkscrewed to the lintel in the only way it knew,
Where they stopped, touched tendrils, smiled, and fell in love.
Said the right-handed Honeysuckle
To the left-handed Bindweed:
'Oh, let us get married
If our parents don't mind; we'd
Be loving and inseparable,
Inextricably entwined;
we'd Live happily ever after,'
Said the Honeysuckle to the Bindweed.
To the Honeysuckle's parents it came as a shock.
'The Bindweeds', they cried, 'are inferior stock,
They're uncultivated, of breeding bereft;
We twine to the right-and they twine to the left!'
Said the anti-clockwise Bindweed
To the clockwise Honeysuckle:
'We'd better start saving,
Many a mickle maks a muckle,
Then run away for a honeymoon
And hope that our luck'll
Take a turn for the better,'
Said the Bindweed to the Honeysuckle.
A Bee who was passing remarked to them then:
Tve said it before, and I'll say it again;
Consider your off-shoots, if off-shoots there be,
They'll never receive any blessing from me!
'Poor little sucker, how will it learn
When it is climbing, which way to turn?
Right-left-what a disgrace!
Or it may go straight up and fall flat on its face!'
Said the right-hand thread Honeysuckle
To the left-hand thread Bindweed:
'It seems that against us
All fate has combined ...
Oh my darling, oh my darling
Oh my darling Columbine,
Thou art lost and gone for ever,
We shall never intertwine.'
Together they found them the very next day.
They had pulled up their roots and just shrivelled away,
Deprived of that freedom for which we must fight-
To veer to the left or to veer to the right!

Way to punctuate ODDITHER’s point, Publius ;-)
