If Palin Derangement Syndrome-afflicted media members thought the Alaska Governor's surprising pre-Fourth of July announcement meant she was getting out of politics, her op-ed in Tuesday's Washington Post should change their minds.
In a scathing rebuke of the Obama administration, Sarah Palin took off the gloves to attack the recently House-passed American Clean Energy and Security Act, disaffectionately known as cap-and-tax.
Marvelously, Palin also took a couple of jabs at her not so adoring press:
Unfortunately, many in the national media would rather focus on the personality-driven political gossip of the day than on the gravity of these challenges. So, at risk of disappointing the chattering class, let me make clear what is foremost on my mind and where my focus will be:
I am deeply concerned about President Obama's cap-and-trade energy plan, and I believe it is an enormous threat to our economy. It would undermine our recovery over the short term and would inflict permanent damage.
American prosperity has always been driven by the steady supply of abundant, affordable energy. Particularly in Alaska, we understand the inherent link between energy and prosperity, energy and opportunity, and energy and security. Consequently, many of us in this huge, energy-rich state recognize that the president's cap-and-trade energy tax would adversely affect every aspect of the U.S. economy.
There is no denying that as the world becomes more industrialized, we need to reform our energy policy and become less dependent on foreign energy sources. But the answer doesn't lie in making energy scarcer and more expensive! Those who understand the issue know we can meet our energy needs and environmental challenges without destroying America's economy.
Job losses are so certain under this new cap-and-tax plan that it includes a provision accommodating newly unemployed workers from the resulting dried-up energy sector, to the tune of $4.2 billion over eight years. So much for creating jobs.
In addition to immediately increasing unemployment in the energy sector, even more American jobs will be threatened by the rising cost of doing business under the cap-and-tax plan. For example, the cost of farming will certainly increase, driving down farm incomes while driving up grocery prices. The costs of manufacturing, warehousing and transportation will also increase.
The ironic beauty in this plan? Soon, even the most ardent liberal will understand supply-side economics.
Ouch! That's gonna leave a mark...likely on many of her detractors, assuming, of course, they get the joke.
That said, readers are encouraged to review the entire piece, and ponder just how this is going to play at Palin-hating media outlets the next 48 hours.
She needs to do both. The kind of people who read National Review and American Spectator are already mostly on board. She needs to reach people who would vote Dem, and plant seeds of doubt in the minds about the wisdom of the Dem agenda.
I didn’t see /s sorry
Now, if the liberal media truly believes its own spew that she is an intellectual and policy lightweight they will ignore this Op Ed piece. If the writer is an airhead, after all, why waste ink and air time bothering to respond?
I suspect there will be a response, a cacophonous era-piercing howl from the left and that whole barrels of ink will be spilled.

Not to be picky, but didn't she just start that with this op-ed?

Supporting limits on carbon emissions is not the same as supporting the Democrats current "cap and trade" legislation.
Yes, and now she must do even more. My greatest fear is that she will campaign for McCain in the 2010 AZ primary out of a sense of obligation for his selecting her as his VP. If she does that, she will be seriously damaged politically within the GOP.
May this be her first of many full contact round house kicks to the thick headed libs.
PALIN: I do. I do.
Not cap and trade, just cap.
She needs to start her own blog, and youtube channel. Allow people to get her message directly, bypassing any editing by the MSM.
Now if she goes out of her way and campaigns for the lib GOP Maine senators, that would give me a lot of heart burn.......
Let's just call a spade a spade. Palin had to support McCain's policy positions, even though she may have disagreed with them personally. It was the sina qua non for accepting the nomination as VP. Trying to defend her statements while running as VP is pointless. Now is the time for her to be her own woman and distance herself from McCain who will prove to be the albatross around her neck if she doesn't.
Yes, she should just come out and say exactly that, reference that event in the debate, and move on. Done. Ignore it, and it’ll keep coming up.
That'll work for movement conservatives but not for the general public who will be feed a steady diet of anti-Palin pablum.
Whether she wants to or not she'll need to have a presense in that arena and the sooner she is able to self-define her presence there the sooner they'll have to take her seriously.
It can't be avoided.
McCain supports amnesty, which will destroy this country with the stroke of a pen. He also supports a cap and trade system that will wreck the economy even further. McCain is against drilling in ANWR. He helped curtail political free speech with McCain-Feingold.
If Palin supports the GOP's self-described maverick who ran such a lousy campaign against Obama, what kind of message does this send to conservatives? Palin should distance herself from McCain if she has future political aspirations. For me, it would be a dealbreaker if she actively supports McCain's reelection by campaigning for him in AZ.
That’s sort of a fine hair split there.
So far this is the first conservative blog I’ve seen that has addressed her op-ed. She has many critics in the so-called Republican community. Will also be interesting to hear their comments. They might have to sputter out the fact that maybe they were wrong about her motives in resigning.
