Palin Attacks Obama in WaPo Op-ed, How Will Media Respond?
NewsBusters.com ^ | 07/14/2009 | Noel Sheppard

Posted on 07/14/2009 4:51:33 AM PDT by KentTrappedInLiberalSeattle

If Palin Derangement Syndrome-afflicted media members thought the Alaska Governor's surprising pre-Fourth of July announcement meant she was getting out of politics, her op-ed in Tuesday's Washington Post should change their minds.

In a scathing rebuke of the Obama administration, Sarah Palin took off the gloves to attack the recently House-passed American Clean Energy and Security Act, disaffectionately known as cap-and-tax.

Marvelously, Palin also took a couple of jabs at her not so adoring press:

Unfortunately, many in the national media would rather focus on the personality-driven political gossip of the day than on the gravity of these challenges. So, at risk of disappointing the chattering class, let me make clear what is foremost on my mind and where my focus will be:

I am deeply concerned about President Obama's cap-and-trade energy plan, and I believe it is an enormous threat to our economy. It would undermine our recovery over the short term and would inflict permanent damage.

American prosperity has always been driven by the steady supply of abundant, affordable energy. Particularly in Alaska, we understand the inherent link between energy and prosperity, energy and opportunity, and energy and security. Consequently, many of us in this huge, energy-rich state recognize that the president's cap-and-trade energy tax would adversely affect every aspect of the U.S. economy.

There is no denying that as the world becomes more industrialized, we need to reform our energy policy and become less dependent on foreign energy sources. But the answer doesn't lie in making energy scarcer and more expensive! Those who understand the issue know we can meet our energy needs and environmental challenges without destroying America's economy.

Job losses are so certain under this new cap-and-tax plan that it includes a provision accommodating newly unemployed workers from the resulting dried-up energy sector, to the tune of $4.2 billion over eight years. So much for creating jobs.

In addition to immediately increasing unemployment in the energy sector, even more American jobs will be threatened by the rising cost of doing business under the cap-and-tax plan. For example, the cost of farming will certainly increase, driving down farm incomes while driving up grocery prices. The costs of manufacturing, warehousing and transportation will also increase.

The ironic beauty in this plan? Soon, even the most ardent liberal will understand supply-side economics.

Ouch! That's gonna leave a mark...likely on many of her detractors, assuming, of course, they get the joke.

That said, readers are encouraged to review the entire piece, and ponder just how this is going to play at Palin-hating media outlets the next 48 hours.

Excellent!

When will the focus shift to Obama’s motives?

He clearly has no interest in “fixing” anything.
He wants LESS affordable energy, LESS available energy.
He wants LESS economic freedom, LESS economic independence.
He wants LESS American prosperity, LESS American productivity.
He wants LESS American security, LESS American military dominance.
Feel free to continue adding to the list.....

“I’m looking at the debat transcript http://www.cnn.com/2008/POLITICS/10/02/debate.transcript/ and I don’t see that.

Can you point it out to me?”

I’ll read over the transcript when I get the chance later today. Gwen-the-moderator definitely asked her if she agreed (or supported) cap&trade and Sarah said yes. Thanks for posting the link; I’ll get back to you on it.

There will be no response at all.

The msm is too busy considering Sonia Soto-dodo to be the second One they’ve been waiting for.

Or FOX has been talking with her. Beck commented on the end of his program yesterday that she should be the leader against the cap and tax...I e-mailed him and suggested he have he on to discuss it...Few hours later the op ed appeared.....My conclusion: GLenn already knew it was in the works.

You posted, "Excellent! Hard hitting using the truth !!!"

I totally agree.

I really liked this sentence.......Particularly in Alaska, "we understand the inherent link between energy and prosperity, energy and opportunity, and energy and security."

Wow, great writing with a strong message...I hope she says that loud and clear everywhere she goes. And soon there will be more of us in the lower 48 who also understand that inherent link.

Interesting because the McCain-Palin ticket supported a cap and trade policy. Now Sarah must also distance herself from the McCain-Palin support of amnesty.

I doubt that Sarah Palin said she supported Cap and Trade during the campaign.

IFILL: We do need to keep within our two minutes. But I just wanted to ask you, do you support capping carbon emissions?

PALIN: I do. I do.

It’s not specifically called cap and trade in the debate. She also speaks of global warming not just being man-made and Biden insists it is all man-made. I guess he’s never heard of volcanoes spewing.

She needs to stick to Fox News, National Review, and American Spectator.

Why seek converts among believers? She's trying to win over the people following the MSM who might still have a few brain cells left, but who have sworn off of Fox news because they've been misinformed about its content or because they've been intimidated into watching CNN.

I believe she's going to improve her defensive capabilities against the media manipulators like Couric and get her message out to the people who need to hear it!

She's right on that. I wonder if the Kos and DU crowd can understand that.

OK, actually I don't wonder. What's worse than being stupid is being stupid and thinking you are smart. The Kos/DU/Chris Parry gang has reached that nadir.

"The only thing I disagree with is Palin continuing to go to Leftist new sources (interviews with Chucky Gibson and the Perky Katie Couric) and now Editorials in the Washington Post."

Sarah needs to study deeply the way that RR handled the press. They hated him as well and yet he was able to talk past them and directly to the people.

This was my hope when SP resigned; that she would pick up the mantle of leadership of the conservative movement that has been vacant for so long.

Properly applied she can eviserate the obama steamroller that threatens our way of life.
