Link only - San Francisco to Consider Cat De-Clawing Ban
Wouldn’t it be great to find out this was partially funded by the furniture industry?
What is the carbon footprint of owning a cat?
P.S. the thought of I'm going to rip out all your nails, because I own you and I can...seriously bothers me.
I have a cat that I had declawed because it was required by the apartment complex I lived in. He seems to be doing fine and is quite healthy from every vet that I took him to. Had I not done so, I wouldn’t have been able to keep him. Given how selective he is with people, he would have most likely been put to sleep. My wife and I have been married two years and he’s just warming up to her.
The other two we have aren’t declawed. In fact, one of the cats was adopted from a public shelter outside Baton Rouge. They had us sign a statement that we wouldn’t declaw the cat. I don’t know how they enforce it, we haven’t heard anything from them since.
What is SF going to do when people dump cats when they destroy the furnature? There are going to be a few idiots that can’t care for cats and dump the animals when they can’t deal with them.
We gave our cats (were feral) our loveseat (okay, they took it over!), and voila! no problems with the rest of the furniture! Well, we had like 8 scratching posts at one time that were within easy reach (not hidden in the corner but in the middle of the rooms) and that seemed to help. Squirting water with a spray bottle was suggested when my cat Moose was a baby and just starting to scratch the furniture, but turned out despite my husband rolling on the floor on the attack with the spray bottle (looking like James Bond) Moose LOVED water! so it was a waste of time. To this day he and his sister Pebbbles still love to sit in the empty bathtub waiting for someone to turn on the ‘watering hole’ for them! LOL! Oh, and BTW, neither one of my cats is declawed, and I have the scars to prove it! SF is just turning into the biggest nancy state EVER—oops, did I say that out loud? I meant NANNY state EVER!
Cats scratch - dogs drool
Not mine.
So you’re just like my neighbor - the kind of irresponsible pet owner that doesn’t give a damn if your cat comes in my yard to use it as it’s toilet. When I walk my dog I make sure that I carry baggies to clean up after him.
After my cat Moose helps me eat a Subway cold cut sandwich, I’d have to guess pretty darn big!! Phew-EE!!! That cat can cut the mustard sometimes! ;-)
Did you not influence the beliefs of your children?
We have a de-clawed cat. He was a rescued animal that had already been de-clawed when we got him. We do feel bad that he can’t go out and nibble on grass, explore things, and harass the crows in the next door neighbor’s tree.
On the other (mutilated) hand, he is less dangerous to our cockatiel, should they ever be accidentally loose in the same room.
I wouldn’t mind if de-clawing were discontinued, as well as the ear-cropping and tail-bobbing (or whatever it’s called). I think maybe breeders shouldn’t keep making breeds that you have to maim into in order to sell. You’d think breeders would be a little embarrassed about a breed that has such a design flaw.
I’m glad someone here agrees with me. It seems that cat owners do not think that the same “pet rules” apply to them.
I agree, and I believe that most responsible people do also, except of course for the cat lovers.
Did you ever stop to think that your neighbor might actually like the crows and other birds in THEIR YARD? You sound like a totally irresponsible neighbor, and of course, person. I hope that you are condemned to live in SF for all of your days.
I am amazed that this is another ‘item’ in our list of things that require a law to ensure no one gets offended.
I’d say, if you can hold your cat still enough (by yourself, no ‘vet’ job) to trim it’s claws, then you ought to be able to do what you want.
