"So basically it's kind of barbaric," Stephens said.

Isn't it barbaric to keep cats locked up inside where they can do nothing but eat and poop?

My cat lives outdoors and is free to roam as she sees fit. I personally have always thought it cruel to keep cats indoors, they just get too bored and develop behavioral problems as a result. But they do tend to live longer and have fewer injuries as a bonus.

So people will take their cats to veterinarians outside of San Fransicko.

Do they have any laws on the books about cropping ears and docking tails on certain dog breeds?

Wouldn't surprise me if they did.

I hate the whole concept of declawing a cat. There is a solution that is not permanent, but it takes care of the problem, and it can be quite entertaining to boot!

I believe that the product is called “soft paws,” where a vet trims the cat’s claws, then superglues these little plastic “balls” to the claws. The cat still has the claws, but they are now blunted, and can’t cause damage to anything. Of course, it will also keep the cat from climbing trees, if it gets out, so the cat will be just as defenseless as if it were declawed. But there’s no pain, and it can be reversed if need be.

The way you know that it’s time to get them replaced (the vet trims them and the claws, then applies a new set) is when it sounds as if the cat is tap dancing on wood or linoleum floors. It can also be entertaining - if you let it go too long, on slick, hard surfaces, the cat will look like it’s on roller skates!

Yeah...you're right...let 'em out there with the Coyotes so they can party. /sarc

I've NEVER understood my friends that say...I let my cats out because I can't keep them cooped up.

I say, what...you just open the door, let 'em out onto the streets without a care in the world for their welfare, to let 'em roam around, get hit by a car or killed by a Coyote....and YOU AREN'T WORRIED SICK ABOUT WHETHER OR NOT THEY'LL RETURN...YOU AREN'T WORRIED ALL NIGHT LONG??? Man...I'll NEVER understand a cat person.

We used a spray product quite effectively to keep our cat from clawing our new chairs. We sprayed this cat repellent on paper towels and pinned them all over the chairs for the first two weeks. She immediately got it into her head never to scratched them, and never did after the paper towels were removed. We did provide several scratching posts of her own, and did tolerate her scratching the carpet on the stair steps, but it was tough enough to take it.

It’s okay to kill cats and dogs that no one wants, but it’s inhumane to declaw them, but keep them alive?

All Libtard San Fransickos should be neutered and lobotomised.

Oh, it’s already been done.

The best answer to all of that: Dogs.

Hopefully they de-claw Senator Boxer before the ban goes into effect.

I have never been a fan of the practice. It makes a cat virtually defenseless.

Ours killed a few birds outdoors, but the trade off was that she also killed mice and snakes, and some insects, that got near or in the house (we live in a forest). The birds were "collateral damage."

Don’t love proliferation of laws.

OTOH, “declawing” is a misnomer for an inhumane form of mutilation. Shouldn’t be done.

The cat to which I was referring was named Sara, and she was the must adorable, but unbelievably brain damaged cat I’ve ever seen.

First off, she was a gorgeous, pure white long haired domestic, and like many white cats, deaf as a post. She would sit and stare at the wall for hours. And since she was deaf, she couldn’t hear herself “meow.” Sometimes she would be so loud the neighbors could hear it, other times, she’d just mouth it, and no sound would come out. She was SO FUNNY!

But sometimes she’d get confused, and would forget where she was and what she was doing... She would come up to you, sit down right in front of you, look up and “meow” at you. It was like she wanted something. So she’d put her little paws on your shins, like she was going to ask something, then she’d get this blank look on her face, look around, and then begin sharpening her claws in your shins! Thank goodness for those “soft paws!”

Mark

Oh I just asked her not to.

Truth is, cat kills bird, cat eats bird, cat saves me money on cat food and everybody is happy.

I am a conservative and do not push my beliefs on anyone, even my cat. That's what liberals do.
