Obama Worship vs. Palin Worship...What's the difference?
7-11-09 | Bob J

Posted on 07/11/2009 10:48:53 AM PDT by Bob J

We all loved Sarah. She rescued the sinking McCain campaign, said all the right things and holds pretty much the same positions of most FReepers.

They all love Obama. He rescued the sinking DNC, said all the right things and holds pretty much the same positions of most liberals.

Dems, liberals and the MSM are condemned for their all consuming adoration, virtual blindness to any mistakes or faults and slobbering worship of the man. Yet when the same thing happens to Palin it turns into a virtue.

Sarah was a real coup for conservatives. But when she announced her resignation many of us saw this for what it was, a deal breaker for a Presidential campaign. Oh she might run in '12 and she might even win the nomination. But she will not be able to shake the black mark of being labeled a "quitter" by her opponent and the MSM and it is very unlikely she will be able to garner the votes among right leaning dems and independents needed to win the general election.

Sarah decided to give up the hardship of public service. Hers was much harder than most, her opponents and the MSM were relentless in their vicious attacks and persecution. Instead she decided to go for the gold, writing books, the lucrative speakers circuit, not having to answer to a hostile critics and media.

I don't blame her, I think she did what was best for herself and family so I hold no animosity for it. But let's not deceive ourselves. She effectively has taken herself out of the game, a game in which we all were invested heavily in her political future. We NEEDED Sarah to lead a conservative revolution and anyone who thinks she can do it from the sidelines, the speakers circuit, is fooling themselves, just look at Newt. Sarah wnet for Sarah and we were kicked to the curb.

All I'm wondering is if the Palin cheering section, the one that praises every move, every decision whether it's good or bad, the ones that believe she can do no wrong, the ones who look to Sarah as a second coming of some sort, can you please take off the blinders for one second and see reality of the situation?

I ask this because I see these blind followers possibly leading us down a road to failure in '12. Let Sarah be, let her speak, write books, continue saying all the right things, make lots of money and establish some peace in her private life. She, of all, knows her decision has taken her out of the presidential ball game and she is good with it (if she doesn't then she does not have the political savvy to earn our support).

But quit with the relentless, vicious, nasty and foul attacks on your fellow FReepers who have taken the blinders off and made peace with what this all means. You're not doing Sarah any good and of she read some of things that are being written here I have a feeling she'd be the first to blush and ask it to stop.

"I will go around the country on behalf of candidates who believe in the right things, regardless of their party label or affiliation"

Party hacks, a thousand curses upon them, simply can not tolerate anyone that could even consider principles over party. Principles over party threaten there very useless existence. Imagine, G*d forbid, voting for the values of the candidate instead of the party label! Oh my, my, the party hacks think, that would be the end of me!

Ridicules statement, the D's were coming of a very successful 2006 election, hardly a sinking ship. You need to get your facts right.

> And now...stumping for Democrats.

Name one.

Just one.

She said that she would stump for ANYBODY who shares her vision of:

* Limited government
* Lower taxes
* Individual LIBERTY
* Anti-abortion
* Energy INDEPENDENCE
* Strong National Defense
* Defense of our Borders
* Pro-gun
* Anti-establishment

If there were a Democrat promoting that vision running against a RINO, I’d support the Democrat, too!

But no such animal exists, so the Pubbie Purists can relax.

Please learn how to write before posting any more vanities, thanks.

The above sentence makes absolutely no sense, however I'll take a wild guess and risk assuming the author finds praising Sarah objectionable. Well I for one am wondering just where, other then Free Republic, the author finds Oracles opining the virtues of Sarah Palin? Every time I turn on the TV or read MSM news I see Sarah being attacked. Well this long time inactive USMC vet does not stand around and watch a friend get beat up. If the author can't see the virtue of defending a fellow conservative soldier under attack, well let's just say that I would not want to be him.

Deal breaker? From a different thread

When you are playing the other fellows game and losing you change the game. You don't play thier game until your beaten and broke. Only a fool would do that, far far wiser to say ok you won that round now we are going to play my game.

Or put in military terms, if you are under siege by a superior force, but your forces are mobile do not wait until you are completely surrounded. Find an escape route, use it, then find a field of battle were you have an advantage.

I can think of more then a few great commanders where retreat, seemly in defeat was in fact a prelude to a great victory. In fact that was one of Napoleons favorite moves, he learned it from Alexander the Great.

And then there are the secular system process worshipers. Or more specifically called the ‘scientific methodology’ of which one cannot distinguish the difference between a liberal Democrat from a liberal Republican.

Example, lord McCain showed his ugly behind over getting ‘dirty’ money out of political campaigns by gutting proved methods ‘poor’ conservatives could grassroot their campaign dollars. Served himself well now didn't he, BUT NOT one utterance from him about the perpetual money pit Bama was allowed to dig for himself.

I agree with the Bob J post. Much of this blind worship is being driven by talk radio : Rush, Hannity, and Levin who get their listeners to mentally connect the MSM and democrats obsession in keeping Palin a joke (attacking her) with some sort of invisible Goddess type qualities to rally the country like Reagan did. I don't see it. I can tell where this comes from when I see replies like “ Why would they continue to attack her if she is not a threat ?”programmed exactly by talk radio.

My answer is they go after her because they know YOU worship her not because of any great potential to destroy them as is being sold. I would be happy if she became a threat to democrats, but she is not one yet. She is on TV talking about the attacks and jokes on herself, not about Obama’s Health care Reform and Cap and Tax.

All this talk of 2012 and beating Obama is misguiding anyway. 2010 is the next critical race and we need a leader for that battle. Then we can talk about the 2012 race.

I see Jim DeMint as being a model.

RE :”But for the Sarahbots here, anything less than total devotion - skepticism, indifference, a wait-and-see view - is unacceptable. You are either with them or against them.

Ditto! You can see this with others here too but Palin has this goddess type effect on many worshippers here that most of the country does not appreciate except in gags and jokes. BTW : Obama as not worshipped in July 2005~ 3 years before the presidental election.

Why does supporting what Sarah does become “Sarah Worship”?

It is worship when she can do no wrong. Maybe Jesus was perfect, but my opinion is that Sarah is not Jesus, she is a regular human and therefore has faults. She already said "a point guard knows when it is time to pass the ball". What the heck do you think that means ? It means, I'm tired of the media witch hunt, I'm tired of my family getting dragged through the mud, I'm tire of being bankrupted by frivolous lawsuits and I quit.

It does not mean she has quit permanently, but she did quit. Some of us remember "you won't have dick nixon to kick around anymore" and that was said 6 years before he became president.

Sarah stands for limited government? Except for her call to do "more for special needs children," all I see are vague generalities and soundbites. Name one specific position she has taken that would reduce government on the following issues:

abolition of the Department of Education (is she for or against)

abolition of the Department of Energy (for or against)

abolition of No Child Left Behind (for or against).

auditing or abolition of the Fed (for or against).

Has she answered ANY of these questions? If so, we'd all like to read them.
