VATICAN CITY (AP) — President Barack Obama sat down with Pope Benedict XVI at the Vatican on Friday for a meeting in which frank but constructive talks were expected between two men who agree on helping the poor but disagree on abortion and stem cell research.

Pix aside, the first lines of the AP story said all that needed to be said. The talks were described as “frank but constructive”. Anyone familiar with diplo speak, especially from the Cold War era knows that when the adjective frank is used the meetings participants barely agreed on what day it was. FWIW the haloed one’s only accomplishment was that he didn’t get the same treatment as Pelosi. And that’s because he’s a head of state and a non Catholic who is not constrained to live a public life in line with the teacings of the Church.

The black veil, however, appears to be first quality — quite lovely, actually, but doesn't represent the American Catholic tradition for normal use in church.
Regardless of what anyone thinks of the skirt, blouse, sweater and belt, I guarantee you that Pope Benedict couldn't possibly care less — it's the respect and the purity of heart he seeks. Fashion shows don't fit the life of a religious.

Of course Obama doesn’t want any grief either since getting rid of religion as we know it is part of his plan. He can’t operate as planned if his wife is in there screwing things up.

Yes for once she dressed appropriately for a meeting in th Vatican. I don’t understand her love of those belts but atleast she made an effort.

The veil is much more appropriate for Islam but at least it looks like an effort was put in. Then again I probably would have died of shock if she had worn a chapel cap or mantilla!
