Stunning new technology allows parents to hold a life-size model of their unborn child

It's a defining moment in a parent's life: Seeing their unborn child's image on an ultrasound for the first time. Now pregnant women could have the chance to hold a life-size model of their unborn baby.

The startling new medical technology is the result of a Royal College of Art design student's PhD. Brazilian student Jorge Lopes has pioneered the conversion of data from ultrasound and MRI scans into life-size plaster models of living embryos using a method called rapid prototyping. 'It’s amazing to see the faces of the mothers. They can see the full scale of their baby, really understand the size of it,' said Dr Lopes. 'The technology can be also be used as an emotional tool for parents whose foetus might be deformed or need treatment,' added Hilary French, who heads the School of Architecture and Design Products. A good way of understanding how rapid protoyping works is to imagine a printer that prints plastic powder instead of ink. Then as it prints layer up layer it slowly builds up a 3D model. Aine Duffy from the RCA said: 'It's stunning technology - here at the RCA we use it for everything from new medical devices, to car components, to jewellery, to architectural models.'

This is not that stunning, we've been doing stereolithography in the Engineering world for some time now.

We scan to make a CAD file and use the Cad file to make the final thermoplastic model.

Should piss off the pro abortion crowd though.

Regardless whether his assumptions regarding the modeling are correct or not, this is going to be a great thing for the pro life crowd.

When women can’t deny what they’re killing, it’s going to be a lot harder to sell the concept.

Ooops, forgot...

The following is directed to all Freepers in general.

Some Freepers see everything through a red, white, and blue filter.  Lets prove right now how many of us do.  1% of the Freepathon total has been reached.

Do the deed.  Click those smiling faces right now.  Spread the word...

I guess I’d like a little clarification... when they say “life-size” do they mean

the size of the embryo as it is at the time of the ultrasound

... or the (projected) size of the baby when it will be born?

abortion clinics should be forced to give one of these to prospective clients before they can perform the procedure.

The size at the time of the ultrasound.

Great! Now Democrats can practice sucking out their children's brains and carving their bodies up into little styrofoam bits before actually exercising their right to choose!

My first thought was...that's kind of dumb!

But then I clicked the link for the whole article, and saw the pix...and my second thought is...that's really pretty cool!

The technology's probably not that "stunning", but it's a decent use of the tech. to make an exact replica of a child in the womb for the expectant parents, from their own individual ultra-sound...although IMHO, it's a little over the top!

How much does this little add-on ADD to the end bill?

I’ve seen this technology in engineering and architecture, but the fact that it could be translated into ultrasound for seeing growing babies is outstanding!

I don’t know how anyone look at this as anything more or less than genocide. Forty (perhaps more by now) million humans do not exist that should have. Their descendants don’t either.

If you had told Blacks in the 1950s, that you had a great plan you’d like them to buy into, and it would cost them tens of millions of the lives of future Black people, you would have been strung up.

Yet today, the left and women are thrilled to have the abortion option. It’s a really sick twisted ideology that the left has foisted off on the U.S. public.

Abortion clinics INTENTIONALLY have old ultrasound equipment in order not to get a clear image of the baby.

I keep telling pro-aborts that they will be viewed with the same disdain that pro-slavery people are today.
