Limbaugh: Obama planning third term @ 4:21 pm by Eric Zimmermann

Rush Limbaugh stirred up some trouble today when he suggested Obama might have his sights on a third term:

You have to wonder if Obama is just trying to lay a foundation for not being a hypocrite when he tries to serve beyond 2016. I wouldn't be at all surprised if in the next number of years there is a move on the 22nd Amendment, which term limits the President of the United States. He may not do it that way, he may not openly try to change the Constitution. But there might be this movement in the country from his cult-like followers to support the notion that a democratically-elected leader who is loved and adored has carte blanc once elected. Just serve as long as he wants because the people demand it, because the people want it, because the people love it.

And I wouldn't put it past Obama to be plotting right now how to serve beyond 2016 and I think the way he's reacting to what's happening in Honduras - Look, they've got a constitution, they're a democratically-elected set of officials down there and you had a guy running the country, Mel Zelaya, who was just going to basically rip that country's democracy to shreds and the country moved in to stop in him from doing it and Obama sides with the guy who wanted to rip up the constitution. He sides with other dictators in the region. Regardless, I mean, one thing is clear here: Obama is nothing if not a hardcore liberal. Always, always more sympathetic, appearing to side with the bad guys on the world stage.

And I'll tell you folks, this business about running beyond 2016, you know, the thing that when you look at Obama's followers - and we've discussed it here - they are a cult-like bunch and their attachment to him is not political, it's not ideological, it is not issue-wise, it is cultish. It includes a wide percentage of minorities, by the way, who for different reasons, who will come to think that he simply cannot be replaced. Let him succeed with amnesty, for example, and all the illegal aliens who are instantly made citizens. He'll be too important. Just like right now he's too big to fail as far as the drive-bys are concerned, he's too important to be replaced. No one else can lead the nation, they will say. And they won't care a whit about the legalities that might be trampled. Half of the legalities if they don't even know about them because they haven't been properly educated. I think this situation in Honduras is very instructive. Anybody who thinks that he intends to just constitutionally go away in 2016 is nuts … These are people who seek power for reasons other than to serve. They seek to rule.

Coincidentally, Robert Gibbs was asked about this very matter during his Monday press briefing:

Q Does the President support New York Democrat Congressman Jose Serrano's House joint resolution number five? (Laughter.)

MR. GIBBS: You're going to find I tend to get it mixed up with House joint resolution four and six. So I'd have to, at the conclusion of our time together here today, Lester –

Q That's the repeal of the — wait a minute. It's the repeal of the 22nd Amendment. Does he support this — because Steny Hoyer in 2006 came out in favor of it — does he support the repeal of the 22nd Amendment or not, Robert?

MR. GIBBS: This is to serve more — this is for two terms? Is that the –

Q That's right.

MR. GIBBS: I think the President is firmly in support of an amendment that would limit his time in the presidency to eight years if he's given that awesome responsibility by the American people.

“Rush needs to take a break. Revoking the 22nd Amendment would need a two-thirds vote in both Houses and the ratification of three-fourths of the states. Not a chance of that happening. “

That didn’t stop the Hondura President to change the constitution unilaterally from the Executive branch and ignoring Congress. And this is the guy that Obama supports

How likely is it for a non-native born citizen? to become POTUS?

If Obama’s first term is halfway as successful as his first half year, “Terms” will no longer be an issue.

He has already proven that the constitution can be used to justify what the government CAN do as opposed to what it CANNOT do.

In as far as legality goes, the treasury secretary by law is far more powerful than the president in unilaterally implementing policy. The act which gave him this power should be ample proof that a third term presidency is child’s play in comparison.

I don’t think we’ll get that far.
The states are already passing sovereignty and nullification legislation, which is de facto secession.

We’ll have CW 2 or Rev 2 before 2012.

IIRC, there is a constitutional safeguard concerning any amendment affecting the presidency: were the 22nd to be repealed, the lifting of term limits would not apply to the presidential incumbent at the time of its repeal, but only to his successor(s).

The things I type and proof before I enter could put me on the FBI watch list. A lot of core believers are beginning to show rumbling that this is not the course America should be taking and there may be a voice coming from the wilderness in the near future. I remember after Kennedy was killed and the Warren Commission came out with a report that just didn't seem totally honest. I was a young snot nosed kid and realized that I didn't really trust what the government told us. I believe I was correct then and so fearful that our government doesn't even care if they lie and deceive us.

Pay him enough and he'll do the same thing for Che Guevara.

Is it your job to jump from thread to thread to blast Rush? Rush truly loves this country. You seem to truly love bashing Rush. You're not even responding to the content of the thread.

Provided the Constitution is still being followed. That sort of thing is happening less and less often. I said quite some time ago that if Obama believes he can get away with it, he will try to stay beyond his elected term. He has (at least) four years to test his limits and see just how much he can get away with.

The wording there is very strange, as if saying BHO would support a future amendment limiting terms - ignoring the well-known fact that such a limit is current, not future.

And I'd hope he supports such an amendment - it's right there in the Constitution he swore to uphold.

Ditto another post -

you’re assuming that any legal limitations will be abided by.

Leftists seriously consider law to be an impediment to be ignored because it binds the present brilliant elite to rules that were made in the past by other, less informed, people.

If we are stupid enough to elect him to three terms we deserve to have him for three terms.

The scenario that really scares me is another 9/11 with this gang in charge. They cozy up to other marxists and profess their hatred toward our country and us.

The content of the thread is "Limbaugh said something".

I commented that he will say whatever gets him paid best.

Seems rather to-the-point to me.

You sound like all those DUers who were convinced that Cheney would barricade himself in the White House and refuse to allow Obama to be inaugurated.

I disagree. The far left had the same nutbag theory about Bush. It was BS.
