Summer in Texas is hot, but I guess ya gotta pick your poison.
If the world goes to Hell in a hand-basket, I'd rather survive Texas in the summer than take my chances of surviving a Northern winter huddled next to a stove.
Given enough nuclear power, de-salinization isn’t that unfeasible.

Maybe you should think things through. What about debt? Based on population percentage Texas’ share of the federal debt is about $900 billion. That’s a sizeable nut to take on right off the bat. You need to establish and fund your own military, your own diplomatic corps, your own regulatory agencies - I’m assuming you’ll still want your food inspected? Some of your state agencies can like the judiciary and education can be expanded to take on a national role without too much additional expense, but roughly a third of Texas is on some sort of government support - Social Security, Disability, Food Stamps, Unemployment, etc. - and what do you do about them? Air traffic control? Nice to have. Setting up a country isn’t easy or cheap, and there’s more to it than thumbing your nose at those you’re leaving.
The winters are delightful for the most part and we're probably one of the few states with the cojones to actually do someting like this. :)

Texas is not where you were born, but is a State of mind and heart. The essence of it is "leave me alone to live my life in peace, if that is not satisfactory we will deal with it".
If you feel comfortable with that you could probably be a Texan.

We do not plan to start now.
What debt...we pay in more than we receive....besides Texas is not in defacet territory. The US can keep its debt....we will keep our oil, natural gas, chemicals, agriculture...etc.
Social Security, Disability, Food Stamps, Unemployment, etc.
Not gonna do it....only those that are truly disabled should get assistance. Like Alaska, the oil & gas resources could become a source of income for the disabled and elderly.
After the Fourth of July, I will secure and case the US flag now flying over my front door.
I will put up the Texas flag.
I remain a US Marine, but my blood is Texas RED.
The rest of us have been 'blessed' with three Texas presidents over the last 45 years, and their 18 years of leadership are responsible more than anyone else for the massive federal debt we currently enjoy. If you think Texas is going to walk out and leave the rest of us footing the whole bill then you're nuts.
As for your oil and gas and etc., keep it. We can get it elsewhere.

Well said.....and so true..... Same hear..my grandparents arrived from Germany through the Port of Galveston..... Being a native Texan, I also welcome those longing for the same freedom.
Some of those are carrying replacement blades for blades that have broken off. Fiberglass might be one of the lightest materials for the job, but it tends to crack and split under the stresses involved. YIKES.

Nah, but a bunch of us have recent and current experience participating in setting up one that is even harder to establish, so that will be beneficial. :)
