>>Barton notes that this is unprecedented. He cant recall any final passage of a bill that has a placeholder in it.<<
I am watching c-span and caught that, what is a placeholder?
What’s the number of this bill... H.R. 2846?
H.R. 2454
Quoting my favorite founding father, Jefferson:
"When the people fear the government, you have tyranny. When the government fears the people, you have freedom".
Seriously. I saw an editorial online earlier today (I’d link to it, but I forgot where and can’t find it now) that suggested that cap-and-trade is good for business because, if it isn’t passed, the Obama Administration will simply try and achieve the same ends with draconian regulation through the EPA.
That argument is based on the false premise that this is an either-or proposition. Passing cap-and-trade will simply make it more politically palatable for Obama to take even more drastic measures administratively. The left is patient enough to use a relentless, incrementalist approach and will use every means they can to get what they want. The friends of free-market capitalism and the prosperity of this nation need to be equally relentless and resist on all fronts to their utmost.
I remember watching a TV movie about Spartacus years ago where one of the characters likened fighting the Romans to fighting a millstone - they just keep coming and coming until they grind you down. That’s exactly what we’re facing here. Giving them an inch will only make it easier for them to take a mile, and letting up after they suffer an apparent setback (such as the potential defeat of this bill) will only make it easier for them to regroup and try again.
Make no mistake - this is economic civil war. The left is committed to using all three branches of government to destroy industries they dislike and prop up industries they favor (and who favor them with money). They wish to subsidize their supporters while destroying the livelihoods of their opponents, and they’ll use no end of bills, regulations, and lawsuits to do it.
We have a fight on our hands, and it’s time to step up. Unfortunately, we appear to be leaderless in this fight, but this had better change soon.
Isn't that the rude, yuppy couple I always see at the movie theater that gets into two lines, and one will abandon the longer line when they see fit?
Thanks. Has freshman RAT Harry Teague from SE (oil patch) NM been up yet? His deal with Waxman (as reported in the ABQ Journal) was to exempt small refiners from the legislation (to protect those in NM) and sock it to the big boys. Typical Rat — no principles, just get the locals exempted from big government rules and regulations. If its not good for us here in the oil patch, why would anyone expect it to be good for others??
Welcome to the heart and soul of States’ Rights (God knows we need that spirit of 1861 now more than ever).
I was born in the Holy City of Charleston then moved up here in 1978.
I’ve voted against Spratt every election since.
With more like you we may have a chance next time.
I just saw that. The speaker admonished Barton to “address all comments to the chair.” I guess she doesn’t understand the difference between addressing someone and referring to him in the third person.
What this means is that anyone voting for the bill won't be voting on a completed bill, but a....let's say a work in progress.
Waxman is essentially allowing fence sitters to write their own legislation and have it inserted in the bill in exchange for their vote.
Right now, Rep Dave Camp, R-MI is doing a good job opposing.
Michigan deserves their fate when they elect brothers Sandy and Carl Levin to represent them in the U.S. House and Senate.
I would love for a Republican to say, “I would appreaciate it if you refer to my full title as THE HONORABLE (FILL IN NAME HERE), after all, I worked hard for this title and I deserve it!”
Thank you! I should know this... where did you find that number? I guess it was briefly up on C-SPAN, but I didn't catch it...
I'm told that Phynaus Wilson is another contact, but he wasn't in office. More about Snyder's office staff here:
Anyone heard what Kirk is going to do? Can’t believe a republican would even be considering it! Wonder what he got in exchange
Amen....John Larson, D-CT is on being an ass now....must be brothers with crooked SEN. Dodd.
Exactly, we should have it all. The best engine to achieve that is the free market. The left can’t have that, though - the only proper way to organize the economy in their eyes is through government fiat.
Wow, quoting Thomas Friedman...that’s sure convincing...LOL...magritte
"We all want to protect our environment, but not my government micromanagement".
