Sen. John Ensign (R-Nev.) acknowledged Tuesday that he had “violated the vows” of marriage by having an affair with a campaign staffer.
The admission — made in a televised appearance in Las Vegas — shocked Ensign’s Senate colleagues and delivered a serious blow to any hopes he might have had of seeking the GOP presidential nomination in 2012.
Political insiders in the Senate and in Nevada told POLITICO that Ensign began the affair with the staffer several months after he separated from his wife, Darlene. When Ensign reconciled with his wife, the sources said, he gave the aide a severance package, and the two parted ways.
Some time later, a Nevada source said, Ensign met with the husband of the woman involved and had what this source described as a positive encounter. Sources said that the man subsequently asked Ensign for a substantial sum of money — at which point Ensign decided to make the affair public.
Ensign did not provide specifics about the affair Tuesday, nor did he identify the woman involved, except to say that she and her husband “were close friends, and both of them worked for me.”

No excuse for the horny separated Senator for messing with the hired help, but it looks like the husband just wanted to have him pay for the pleasure not with an ass whooping, but with with cash.

The article says both the husband and wife were involved in DC politics. From what I can see over the years, people involved in DC politics for any length of time tend to become either pimps or whores. It's a very cynical world they live in.
Since the Senator has an R after his name, he will not get a free pass the way any D would, so that's the end to another pitiful political career.
But the upside of that disgrace for the Senator is that he'll still get lifetime full pay via the US taxpayer.
Even when when the DC pimps and whores lose, they still win --- because they make the frigging rules.

After everything that clinton and kennedy did with their women, and ayers and psuedo rev wright, I’m willing to FORGIVE...a republican, especially if they’re not RINO’s, and haven’t made terrible policy decisions. This aint nothin compared to what’s going on around us. It’s bad, there’s no doubt—but after clinton, he should not lose his chance for running for president—if he’s a good candidate. I can’t imagine the amount of strength and faith it would take to buckle up and stand strong with a spouse that cheated. We have seen couples break up over cheating, a couple were co-workers. They were really good at their jobs, and very good at deception. We heard about one guy in town who was juggling 2 girlfriends while separated yet seeing his wife. No one could figure out how he managed it for so long. He’s a jerk, and has had a lot of wrath fall upon him.I have no pity for cheaters..

Bull. It depends on the “screw up”. Furthermore, unlike the liberals, conservatives base their judgments on grounded principles, not weather vane “character”.
If an individual can violate sacred vows of matrimony, they can violate their vows of office. These individuals render decisions that don’t just affect their family, but the taxpayer. They should be held to a high standard.
Liberals have no character. They are political whores.
Furthermore, you can forgive, yet demand discipline and/or reprimand.
Are you suggesting that if a congressman commits a sexual act against a 5 year old child, his egregious crime should be dismissed?
I don’t want a president whose so weak in character that he can’t turn from temptation which violates a sacred vow. We all know what that looks like.

We’re not talking about the circumstances which you described.
The issue concerns our public officials whom determine policy which effects every citizen of The United States. They’ve been entrusted with our right to life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness, or not.
If you need a vivid example, take a look at what’s occupying the White House and their staff now.

In the circumstances that I described, the “sinner” had FAR more impact on your life than any politician ever should or can have.
We are NOT picking a date for the prom.
We are NOT looking for a babysitter, for out kids.
When we vote for candidates, there is ONE question to ask:
Which of the candidates, available, would vote MOST like me, on the issues?
That is IT!

Would you vote for a person who promised to be Conservative over a person who promised to be Liberal?

I’ve been talking about our statesmens. Elected official whose decisions/policies affect not just their citizens, but the global economy for generations, not someone whom rapes your wife and daughter.

It’s ironic that you would use an analogy such as the aviator shooting a missile out of the sky. Under our current administration, I doubt O would give the okay if we were face with such a crisis, hence the point of my post.
A man’s character, or lack thereof, are reflected in his behavior. If a statesman can’t manage to keep his own marriage vows, I don’t want that man leading our country.
