A driver told a blind cancer sufferer to get off his bus when a woman and her children became hysterical at the sight of his guide dog.
George Herridge, 71, told how the mum flew into a rage and shouted at him in a foreign language. A passenger explained she wanted him to get off the bus during the incident on May 20.
Mr Herridge, from Tern Close, Tilehurst, said: Her child was kicking and screaming and someone off the bus told me her child was frightened of my dog. The driver said, Look mate, cant you get off?
I stood my ground. I had not done anything, my dog had not done anything and I was getting off the bus for no one.
The retired NHS worker claimed he was forced off a bus by a driver after a similar encounter last summer.
And a day after the latest bus incident an lady began screaming I dont like dirty dogs at Mr Herridge at the Royal Berkshire Hospital.
A week earlier he faced further animosity from a couple at Asda in The Meadway, he said.
He is unsure what has provoked outbursts but said he thinks some have come from Asian people and that it may be due to religious or cultural differences.
If the people who were upset were Muslim, they consider dogs to be ritually unclean.
Some may have them as pets but keep them in a separate living area. Anything coming into contact with its saliva, such as clothes, must be washed seven times if they intend to pray in those clothes.
Mr Herridge said: I do not expect any special treatment but just to be left in peace and live my life the best I can.
Reading Buses accepted the driver was wrong but had been placed in an impossible situation.
Drivers have been re-instructed to convey the blind and the bus company has sought advice from the Royal National Institute for the Blind and hopes to speak with Muslim leaders.
As part of a Muslim Council of Britain project, Mufti Zubair Butt, Sharia advisor to Muslim Spiritual Care Provision in the NHS, admitted Muslims require some education on guide dogs.
In response to concerns raised about guide dogs in mid-2008, he said: It is important that one does not impose ones own understanding upon others, but one shows understanding and compassion for others, their needs and their views, especially in an open communal space and in a country where Muslims are living as a minority.
The poepl who object to this must not know that most busses are guarded at night by dogs who probably slober all over the seats while they patrol so the busses are filthy and unclean! ;) I also hear they sometimes use pigs!
It’s time to send these muzzie’s to sensitivity training.
I can guarantee you that this would not happen in my presence. Blind people, and their seeing eye dogs, are inviolate.
Yeah, something about the “tolerance” of Islam, I believe he said...
Not saying that muzzies want mankind to die, just sayin'.
But speaking up or taking any action against a Muzzie in the UK would get you arrested for a “hate crime”.
This mentality will be coming here soon.
Funny thing about moral equivalency: it never is.
This mentality will be coming here soon.
I would more than willingly fight and die, or go to jail over this, and until more people feel that way about protecting our culture and way of life things will only get worse. Nobody kicks a blind person off a bus because they don't like his seeing eye dog. Not in my presence.
After hitting preview and reading my statement I'll make one caveat. It must be the case where the dog or blind man are not behaving in a dangerous manner, and the dog isn't behaving erratically, which would be proper cause to be afraid of the dog.
Id rather sit next to a filthy dog licking his private part than a muzzie minding his business.
Exactly how would you tell the difference?
Many answers possible, but let's try and see where he goes. Let us know.
LOL. THe dog would smell better for one.
“The driver said, Look mate, cant you get off? and while you’re on your way out will you just kiss the feet of this loud mouth Muslim woman? Just a quick like peck will do it mate!
I would have to delicately do this because obviously being active duty and all, but I would hope that being an American he would definitely go with American law. The one thing I can say is that he does not demand that we not celebrate Christmas as we have a Christmas Party that he attends, he comes to our luncheons. Just had one yesterday as a matter of fact and we had subway. I ordered a sandwich platter. We had seven people who were eating and he just grabbed one of the turkey sandwiches. He goes to the galley for lunch and eats everything that he can but just does not take the ham if we happen to have it that day. During Ramadan he will PT with the rest of us even though it is technically not allowed during that time. He seriously is absolutely no trouble. Keep in mind that during Lent, I will not have any meat on Fridays so for example, if we have a luncheon, I will either request a non meat dish or bring in something that I can eat.
That is fair enough but I think you are wrong at least about him.
Thanks.
Now the money question is: “Will you fight against the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, the Kingdom of the two holy mosques, if the US is forced into a war against them?”
