By midafternoon Sunday, authorities had a 50-something man in custody in connection with the murder of Wichita abortion doctor George Tiller, killed while serving as an usher at his church.
However, the motive for the crime we can all surmise, given the vitriolic rhetoric aimed at Tiller these past couple of decades by anti-abortion activists.
And if were right about that, then we know the identities of his accomplices.
They include everyone who has ever called Tillers late-term abortion clinic a murder mill.
Whoever called Tiller Tiller the Killer.
Groups that fomented hate toward a man who, rightly or wrongly, believed he was serving a noble purpose by being one of the few doctors in the country who performed late-term abortions.
Hate. Not heated opposition. Not strong disagreement.
But blind hatred.
The kind of hate that would prompt some maniac to take a gun into a church and shoot a man to death in front of friends and family.
His accomplices know they have blood on their hands, which might explain why they were quick to issue statements expressing disapproval of Tillers murder.
Among them, the anti-abortion group Operation Rescue, whose words drip with hypocrisy: We are shocked at this mornings disturbing news that Mr. Tiller was gunned down. Operation Rescue has worked for years through peaceful, legal means, and through the proper channels to see him brought to justice. We denounce vigilantism and the cowardly act that took place this morning. We pray for Mr. Tillers family that they will find comfort and healing that can only be found in Jesus Christ.
Shocked? Are any of us really shocked that it would come to this after the many years of demonizing one man? Certainly the groups founder, Randall Terry, didnt seem shocked when he issued this statement on Sunday:

Golly, I was just deciphering my own use of these words and my beliefs, and I have to agree with you.
Me:
Anti-abortion
With the greatest of caution capital punishment
“ “ “ “ war
On second thought, that comparison is way too obvious.
Is Lorianne not doing what she is accusing others of doing? Could her criticism of pro-life groups and her accusations that they are accomplices not be viewed as hate speech? She is upset over the murder of a man in his sixties, but has no such feelings about the thousands of babies Tiller murdered. I guess according to the liberal mindset, liberals are incapable of hate speech or murder.
“Im surprised the murderer didnt just pull Tiller out of the church by his feet, punch a hole in the back his skull and vacuum his brains out with a shop vac. In Kansas its legal if you’re the right age...”
Would this be called “post partum” abortion?
Having said that, killing Hiller is against God’s laws, but then so is abortion. For bean counters on the left, the score is one to a few thousand.
Flame away.
Like I said earlier....I am anti-abortion.
Not much else in common with most folks I’ve seen here today crowing about being pro-life.
I will never be a pacifist and I believe in justice and reckonings.
and I’m too old to change even if I wanted to
Tiller's Victims Were Many, His Killer Was One.
The Quiet Conservative
Nice try on tarring the whole right to life movement with the actions of one person. However, the people who are for the right to life from conception to natural death, include Tiller in that definition.
Your dishonest and intellectually bankrupt attempt to discredit this fails miserably. Your post is emotion wrought desire to discredit the anti abortion movement here and across the nation.
There is no hypocrisy.
The people who called Tiller “Tiller the baby killer” were accurate in their description. He was a killer. What is sad is that whoever murdered him also murdered any chance on Tiller realizing this and repenting. It is incredibly sad for all who respect life. Your hatred for them is not returned. Your vitriol for them is not returned.
The man who murdered Tiller is now no different than Tiller was. The people who respect life know this, do you?
The second post after he had modified his intro to his commentary to reflect the capture of a suspect:
The Quiet Conservative
I see you have modified the original post but have not shed your hatred and bias. You would hope on sober reflection you would have regretted your knee jerk comments, instead you have confirmed them.
“So far, we know nothing about the suspect. Though the motive for the crime we can all surmise in light of the vitriolic campaign that has been waged against Tiller for more than two decades by anti-abortion groups.
And if we're right about that, then we already know the identities of his accomplices.
They include every one who has ever called Tiller's late term abortion clinic a murder mill.
Who ever called Tiller “Tiller the Killer.”
Is that your contention? That a single disturbed person shares culpability with anyone who is pro life and believes Dr. Tiller was murdering human beings? So the Catholic bishops are accessories? Those Catholics that are true to their faith are accomplices? Evangelical Christians that believe the unborn have the same right to life as Tiller are murderers?
Well, if that is the standard you wish us to use, then what can I say? You therefore are an accomplice to Tiller, Planned Parenthood, and everyone that supports 1.3 million murders a year. By your standard you are no different than an SS guard pushing people into gas chambers or firing up the ovens.
Maybe that isn't the comparison you want to go for. Oh, there is one critical difference between the two mentalities. The pro life people, the Catholic Church, the true believers in the right to life from conception to natural death, do not approve of the murder of Dr. Tiller. In fact, it is of great sadness that Dr. Tiller doesn't have a chance to repent and obtain forgiveness. It is of great sadness that one lone disturbed person committed murder. All should pray for him as they have prayed over the years for Dr. Tiller. You see, there is no “hate” there as you would contend. All the hatred is on your side of the issue. It always has been.
The pro life people didn't want anyone to die, including Tiller. Your side wants 1.3 million to die a year. If you want to see what hate truly looks like. Look in a mirror or read your own words.
In your response to NinoFan you said, “Look ace. I’m not banning your speech. However, with freedom comes responsibility. You want to talk big but not take any responsibility for your words?
You can yell murderer at an abortionist all day long if your want. Go ahead knock yourself out. But if some nitwit vigalente is encouraged by your blather then you cower behind the 1st amendment like a weenie. Come on big guy take credit for this heroic act.”
Quite a lecture. Just out of curiosity, just what is the length of the ladder you use to mount your high horse?
i was completely ignorant as to how good works/be nice, turn the other cheek , pray for evildoers to be spared hell and and all that so many folks here who claim to be “pro-life” big long time movers and shakers in the stop abortion struggle were...
i am not like them in many ways except that I believe the right to kill babies has to be stopped...
so I am proudly anti-abortion....and militant about others issues as well and I have lived long enough and have had enough experience with violence to realize it's part of the human condition, it's both saved me and harmed me....I don't live in a fantasyland about bloodshed
some of these folks here today sound messianic...seeking to create a mushman or request folks perfect themselves as Christ....it's arrogant to assume that's possible
we're flawed, we do the best we can but responsibility counts and bad behavior has consequence, and it's not up to me to forgive it when I see it
I'm old school southern baptist....I simply don't get this new stuff
but in reality....religion has ZERO to do with my being strongly anti-abortion....like it appears to have for the pro-life folks here
you get yer foundation as a kid from God and his teachings and go from there....I'm pro-Israel but not because I'm Christian
i'm charitable too but that's again not because I do it for Christianity
anyhow...this forum is about evenly divided but I'd say at least from posting the pro-lifers who view themselves as a movement (i don't do that either) outnumber we realists a bit more
make that scorecard one to tens of thousands...some estimate north of 30,000
While Tiller won’t be doing any more abortions, I still think this shooter set back the right to life movement by doing what he did. Every time some wing-nut plants a bomb or shoots some doctor, the pro-life movement is tarnished.
I don’t support this murder. I doubt you do either. Still, in the eyes of many people, we are going to be thought of as people who do support it.
That does not advance the pro-life cause. It makes it look like a hypocrites movement.
According to the left's own twisted logic, Tiller's killer must be one hell of a patriot!
From Tiller’s website:
At Women’s Health Care Services, we specialize in “late” abortion care. We are able to perform elective abortions to the time in the pregnancy when the fetus is viable. Viability is not a set point in time. Viability is determined by the attending physician and is based on sonogram results, physical examination and last menstrual period date (if known).
In order to offer you an appointment, we require that a physician refer you to our center. In addition, we need your genetic counselor or doctor to provide us with gestational and diagnostic information regarding your pregnancy. Over the past twenty-five years, we have had experience with pregnancy terminations in such situations as anencephaly, Trisomy 13, 18, and 21, polycystic kidney disease, spina bifida, hydrocephalus, Potter’s syndrome, lethal dwarfism, holoprosencephaly, anterior and posterior encephalocele, non-immune hydrops, and a variety of other very significant abnormalities.

Hey Mike!
Given your “logic,” anyone who’s ever thought themselves an “environmentalist” has no moral standing, due to the Unibomber, Ted K!
Mark
What do you not have in common with the folks you mentioned?
What I would like to know, considering Mr. Tiller’s “trade”, how is it that the Evangelical Lutheran Church obviously welcomed Mr. Tiller into their church as one of their own? He was ushering today, so he was a full fledged member in good standing of this church. What ever happened to shunning people for their bad behavior. How is it that a mainstream church would openly embrace the likes of a Mr. ‘mass murderer’ Tiller? How pathetic some of our allegedly “Christian” churches have become. Disgusting. Well, he now has become permanently shunned, in this hollow excuse for a church, no less.
Mr. Roeder just single handedly reduced the number of viable babies getting their brains sucked out this morning by 33% NATIONWIDE! Amen to that.
I’m still waiting for you to make your point. Petty insults degrade you not me.
Thats about it.
