A few days ago it was announced the Florida Chapter of Free Republic would be gathering together in D.C. to attend the National Tea Party. Due to overwhelming interest all across the country, the event has now gone national

Get your plans set and join Freepers from across the U.S. for the 1st. annual Freeper National Tea Party Convention!

This event is open only to Registered Freepers, their families and friends.

I’ll be coordinating this event with the MOST appreciated help from seekthetruth. For now I (Brytani) am collecting names of those who are committed to going to D.C. with us. Once we have a realistic idea of how many Freepers are aboard, I will be contacting Hotels in D.C. to find a group or convention rate.

We already have a few wonderful Hotels on our list and don’t want to wait until they are filled up. The plan is simple and will take only a FreepMail but time is of the essence!!! Hotels in D.C. are filling up fast!!!

Please send Brytani a FreepMail if you are going to D.C. or if you’re strongly considering attending.   For now I need your FreeperID, the number of room you will need the how many people will be in your party. If you have any questions please ask them on this thread or if you’d prefer you can FreepMail me.

During the first week of June I will announce the Hotel, room rate, address, perks etc and when and how your reservation will need to be made.

For those who are considering joining us but have not completely committed, please FreepMail as well. This will give me a better idea of how many room to inquire on.

If you are already attending please consider staying with Freepers from around the nation. You’ll have the opportunity to meet people you’ve been talking to for years and make new FRriends.

Come on everyone get on board!!! Save a bit of money! Could you ask for a better group of people to spend a weekend with?

Thanks to JimRob for allowing us to make this event an official Free Republic function.

I have the hotel choices down to about 10 different venues in the area, it all depends on the rate I can get with the activities we’ve planned.

I’ve started farming out for quotes but need as close to a realistic number of people attending as possible.

Thanks for asking your NubbyHubbu for assistance :-)

I/we will, unfortunately, not be able to make the trip. Our thoughts will be with all of the patriots who can attend. I wish we could be there. We will have to hold down the fort here and attend 912 Tea Parties in the area.

Good evening. It was great to meet you Brytani. Orlando was fun, wasn't it?

Can't make a 5/31 deadline. But, the First lady is interested. We haven't been to DC in 10 years. We'll see what happens...

“Can’t make a 5/31 deadline. But, the First lady is interested. We haven’t been to DC in 10 years. We’ll see what happens...”

The only reason for the deadline so soon is that we are concerned hotels will begin to fill up quickly during the next few weeks. Glad to hear you and your “first lady” are thinking about making the trip. I think it is great you call your wife your First lady! .357 calls me the “boss” which doesn’t sound as nice! :)

I am a new member to this group but wanted to check in on DC. Made the arrangements last week and will be there. It’s time this government remembered they work for us!

FRiends.....as a born and bred middle-westerner (aka fly-over country) I had never been to DC in my life till the FR March for Justice almost a decade ago.

There I was, gawking like a country bumpkin, standing in the heart of the governmental and memorial districts in the nation's capitol. Everything was so beautiful it took my breath away.

In the one extra day I had planned for, I took in a small part of the Smithonian (saw the Declaration of Independence, it made me cry), saw memorials of all the wars, caught the famous changing of the guard at Arlington, got to see a special exhibit of John Singer Sargent at the Art Museum, a quick pass through the Museum of Modern art (the Warhols are good and fun, trust me) and the inside of the Senate (the chamber is smaller than you can imagine).

It was like a big buffet and you didn't know what to chose to eat, everything looks enticing, but your tummy isn't big enough....and I wished I had more time to take in the delights of this gleaming white city on a hill.

Please sign up for this Taxpayers Tea Party.....and give yourself an extra day to partake of this feast....with the Rally being a luscious appetizer.

Hi MinuteGal! Hubby and I were just going to go for the weekend, but decided we best treat ourselves to new sites and some we haven’t seen in years. Taking your advice and adding a few days on our stay! Especially like the fact that we will be in the best of patriotic Freeper company!:)

I noticed that there's a lot of websites that describe DC museums, memorials etc. and how to plan your trip. Type in "DC attractions" on Yahoo or Google and take a gander at what you find.

Since my time in DC was short, namely one day, I pre-planned as much as I could. Get going early. I wanted to see what I could of each attraction I wanted to see. I planned to see what I wanted to in a specified place in a specified time frame and then reluctantly move on.

At the Smithsonian, I decided to see two areas. As a World War One aviation buff, I hit that part of the museum (Red Baron stuff, dirigible stuff, separate dark room alive with with a battle with trenches, cannons going off.....not hokey at all, dead serious....) plus a real WW 1 fighter plane suspended from the ceiling). My son peeled off to see a special Star Wars exhibit which was totally creative and great fun.

Then on to a sacred room where we saw The Declaration and other original founding documents. There's always a line here, folks pass by with reverence.....and you get a moment to see all the signatures of the Founding Fathers.....very emotional.

Then we popped into a couple famous art museums, saw the Senate chamber and auxilliary ante-rooms.

We squeezed a great lunch in somehow.

Then, since our legs were starting to ache, we took a tour bus for the war memorials and the Arlington cemetary, which was a good move. We saw the changing of the guard at the cemetary. Very interesting.

Taxi fares have just gone up, so the Metro may be a choice. However, if you can pack a bunch of freepers in one cab and share the cost, it's still the best way to get where you're going.

I know some of you have Free Republic.com business cards. Bring them with you to pass out to interested folks. Remember, besides the large contigent of Freepers going to the Tea Party, there will be thousands of other organizations and individual patriots at the rally, and they may be unaware or interested in joining our FR forum.
