Just after I graduated from UCSD in 1976, I picked up a stripped down BSA 500 single. It was only suitable as a dirt bike. The 11:1 compression ratio required a little coordination with the compression release to turn it over. It had lots of torque. It would go anywhere I wanted. Alas, I got married in 1978 and didn't have a place to store the bike. I sold it. It had the kind of explosive power you find in the top end MX bikes today. My DR650SE produces 38 HP. There's plenty of torque for going where I want at a reasonable speed. The seat needs an upgrade for more than local travel. A nice Corbin or Renazco seat costs about $350.

They spell stuff weird though

The language is phonetic. Once you learn the "rules", you can pronounce it just fine. The one construct that is challenging for English speakers is the "LL". The closest approximation would the "THL" with the "TH" diphthong pronounced as in "think".

The B roads in the small village areas of Wales would be very pleasant on a bike.

I know the old bikes were bruisers, but I still liked them.

My bud builds BSA choppers, He asked me to ride one(A 750 with 650 brakes and raked out like an orangutang, FIXED welded feet pegs).. I said Nooo way! He stripped all the good stuff and left in all the bad.

Still, I had to kick the thing over...http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vBtY6y8rXls

In 2012 there will be very few cars period after Obama destroys what's left of the U.S. auto industry.

There was a cheesy comedy movie in the late 70s staring John Ritter called "Americathon". I forgot most of the movie but I vaguely remember that the plot depicted an America that was broke, where people lived in their cars and traveled by bicycle on bicycle freeways, and the President played by Ritter, organized a world wide telethon to beg the world for money to balance the budget.

It seems life is about to imitate art, and bad art at that.

You forgot the $20,000 per ounce gold price, and the armed bands prowling the streets looking for bureaucrats to exterminate...

At this rate, we won’t survive another year without a major “event”.

Obama the dope promised us false hope, but he’ll still tax all of our change.

The engine sounded pretty good. I enjoyed watching the flat track races at Speedway 117 (near the Mexican border south of San Diego) when I was in high school. I had quite a few friends competing at the time. Ward Ring (the cousin of one of my high school friends) won a race on a 650 twin, then proceeded to ride a wheelie on the bike all the way around the track. I think it was a Triumph. Unfortunately, Ward died in an accident while racing in Baja a few years later.

“I’ll still get the AR-15 in the future”

Amazingly (or not so) my Wife keeps looking at the AR style weapons at our local Academy. Dropping $1000 or more on a single gun would be hard for me to justify at this time.

Maybe a *zombie killing* Defender or two would be a better bet.
