Amazingly (or not so) my Wife keeps looking at the AR style weapons at our local Academy

I would prefer an AK over the AR anyday. I will take ‘caliber’ over varmint size everytime.

I have neither and must satisfy myself with 2 Garands, 2 M1 Carbines, an ‘03 springfield and a safe full of hunting rifles, 2 1911’s, hunting pistols, carry pistols and antiques all of which shoot and can be pressed into service for ‘My America’ if need be.

There was a cheesy comedy movie in the late 70s staring John Ritter called "Americathon". I forgot most of the movie but I vaguely remember that the plot depicted an America that was broke...

I vaguely remember it too. The key thing that stuck out for me is that it featured a fake commercial for vacationing in "scenic, peaceful Vietnam". The funny thing is that co-workers of mine are doing just that!

The way we look at it, a single person can only shoot a maximum of 2 guns at one time. I personally feel way more comfortable with my hunting weapons than I do with *ammo wasters* although, one of these might be fun (and practical).

there is a guy about 7 miles from here name of Tony Pucci. He owns Orion 7 and specializes in M1 Garands http://www.m1garandrifle.com/

I buy bulk 30-06 right in the garand clips made in Greece in the 1970’s, when they were using our Garands....its fun trying to shoot all 8 round as fast as you can and still keep ‘em on target.....right now I have only around 700 rounds of garand ammo, but it will do for now...

Got some kick, does it?

not too bad....but enough. 10+ lb rifle dampens a lot of the kick but it still takes a while to get it back on target between shots.

I would NOT want to carry the weigt of that gun though, especially at my age.
