WASHINGTON (CNN) – Former Rep. John Kasich plans to announce next month that he will run for governor of Ohio, two Republican sources tell CNN.
Kasich has already filed paperwork with the state that allows him to raise money, established a Web site and posted a YouTube video encouraging supporters to join him at a June 1 event in his hometown for a "very special announcement." Kasich has not yet officially announced his plans to challenge Democratic Gov. Ted Strickland in 2010.

Better to lose on 100% of the issues than vote for somebody who would give us victory on 90% of them. Because that remaining 10% (whatever it is) is all-important, and if you're off the reservation on that 10%, you're a stinkin' RINO! On the 2nd Amendment thing, I understand your viewpoint as a tactical matter. But I am wondering if it really is hopeless if we as a free people and armed populace find ourselves facing a tyrannical government taken over by anti-liberty socialist-communist types. Remember Red Dawn? Those kids started with simple firearms and built up their armaments by capturing better weapons. I am thinking some kind of similar tactics might be an option. Take to the hills and harass the enemy into submission. The Afghans did it against the Soviets, the VC and NVA against us, to an extent, a decade earlier.
Note that I do not desire nor do I advocate a re-run of Concord, because we'd get slaughtered in a set-piece, head-to-head match against modern forces (as the Iraqi Army found out). Guerilla tactics would likely be the only viable option, and small arms might be useful there, especially in difficult terrain.

I think John has become a little conservative lite but I would vote for him too. He has the name recognition going for him.

Social liberal? Actually, abortion was the formative issue in my political leanings, and I've volunteered with local pro-life organizations, which I bet is more than you've ever done for socially conservative causes, as long as we're engaging in uneducated guesses about each other.

No circles for me. I’m interested in beating ‘Rats, in particular Strickland and Obombah. If that means we get 90% of what we want, that sounds like a better tactical position than 0% with Strickland/Obombah. Only a fool would forego a 90% advantage in favor of 0%.

I only ask because I directly addressed this exact point in my previous post, a couple paragraphs up from the part you quoted. Not sure how you overlooked it. Makes you look a little foolish.

They were courageous people, and they did the best thing they could given the limited options available to them, but they never had a chance.

I intend to stop things well before they reach that point by, among other things, winning some elections, something a lot of FReepers these days apparently couldn't care less about because they would cut off not just their nose but their entire head to spite their face.

I've seen your type come and go here for years...if you are soft on what the second amendment is intended for then you have a real problem though to be fair your pro-life support is laudable...it like gun rights is a crucible for many here..
