Actually, I see it as a black eye for Obambi. He can’t close Gitmo now, and he’s going to really take a beating from the lefties. This was a vote of no confidence on the matter IMO.
The Democrats had to swallow their pride on this one. After all the damning comments by them over the last six years, they’re not willing to change things when they can.

I don’t know what to think. I am thinking that we should be jumping for joy that the Senators had enough sense to turn down this stupid idea but then I am angry that they even considered the idea!
I’m with you. Joe Q. Public thinks “why did the Senate have to vote to block the transfer? Oh yeah, Obama is closing Gitmo within the year”. Now, the 0ne is going to read a teleprompter tomorrow on the subject with his “plan”. VP Cheney has a speech too—smart, gives the presstitutes a counter to put into their pap....

I wonder if the Senate knows the public will be furious if they bring this islamist scum to the USA? Are they thinking about the 2010 elections? I bet Hairy Reid is.
One could be Feinstein. I heard some comments she made and I would think from that she would be one of the six.
Hugo - er, I mean, Barry - isn’t going to like this.
Once the legislature started to oppose Hugo Chavez, he focused all his attention on it and essentially was able to get it to rewrite its procedural rules, restructure itself, and, of course, with the help of a lot of cheating, get a Hugo-favorable majority. At the same time, he was restructuring the judiciary and getting rid of people there who still wanted to abide by the law and not let Hugo be a law unto himself.
We have a more established system, and while procedural rule manipulation and vote fraud can end up making things more favorable for anything Obama wants, I think he’s going to have a harder time than Hugo in getting complete control over the other branches of government. Not to say he won’t try, of course.
Like others made, he made the promise during a campaign, on political advisor advice and based on public polls and the MSM's position. Not the facts. Now, the facts--along with the cowardly 'rats who are getting an earful from their constituents about 'terrorists in the US'-- are kicking his skinny butt. The way things work so slowly in DC and government, this promise logistically cannot be kept. It is too funny...
