It’s time to take the tea party movement directly to Washington, D.C. Please join thousands of local organizers and grassroots Americans from across the country as we gather in our nation’s capital to deliver a message to the politicians: Enough!
We’ve had enough of the out of control spending, the bailouts, the growth of big government and the soaring deficits. And we reject the future tax increases to pay for all of this spending and debt down the road. We are gathering on 9-12-2009 to deliver our message in person that we’ve had enough!

What areas of DC should I avoid when making a hotel reservation? Lot of hotels near Reagan Intl... are they okay?
Never been to DC so I have no idea what area is good or bad.
Right now, hubby and I would be driving up, but will be looking to see if our local 9/12 group might be chartering a bus. We Freepers could look into that also. :)

Could you send me the information as well? Just wondering about a good place to stay. When we came for the House Managers dinner 10 years ago (yikes...already?) we stayed in a downtown hotel. I forget the name of it, I just remember reading it was where Richard Nixon stayed when he visited DC. It was in the middle of everything, we didn’t need to drive anywhere. Just wondering if there is a central location reasonably priced where other freepers will be staying...

Perhaps Freepers who know the DC area well will give us some info concerning good places to stay that would be close to the action. Thanks MinuteGal for your info.

Unfortunately, having it in September will keep some people living 2 or 3 days away and kids in school from attending.
I have a list of Maryland places. DC and Virginia are easier to locate since most everyone knows the area and Metro is closer to most of those hotels.
Let me know if you want Maryland’s list. For Virginia just be in Rossyln-Arlington-Crystal City area and you are good to go.
I do not have further out places for Virginia.
Have you checked Glenn Beck’s web site on this event? He may have a list of hotels.

There are several Doubletrees in DC. They are great. I was in the one where you could see the Watergate Apartments where Monica lived during her romp with Bubba.
To be with a gang of freepers, it's better to find a hotel, and I no longer can remember the name of the hotel where I stayed when I was in DC for the Count the Silver Freeper Inauguration Ball. If it comes back to me, I'll post it. It was a great hotel. I'll check the archives tomorrow and see if I can come up with the name.

Thanks for the reply, Leni. Get back to me if you remember the other place. I’ll check into the Doubletree too. Do we need to reserve for several nights? I know the main event is Sept. 12, just checking if two or three night reservations would be best. I would appreciate suggestions from anyone planning on attending. Haven’t been to Washington in about 10 years!
There are events planned for the 12th and 13th, so I plan on arriving in DC on the 11th and leaving the evening of 13th.
At the March for Justice, this gave me almost a full day to see a part of the Smithsonian I was interested in, a special John Singer Sargent exhibit at the Art Museum, and one or two other sights.
Yes, it's another night's lodging and a couple more meals, but it's worth it after coming all that distance.
What the heck, you might as well be hung for a cow as a calf.

You are right, Leni. Think we will plan on staying at least three nights and take in some sites we haven’t seen. :)
I was at the April 15th rally in DC and I will be at the 9/12 rally.
Each unit has a small kitchenette....and you may be able to save money and save running around to restaurants if you stay there. There's an inexpensive little restaurant within walking distance......or have a pizza and salad ordered in.
I haven't been there in years, but they did have a free breakfast-ette. Ask about it. All day they bake fresh chocolate chip cookies and there they are, sitting on the front desk counter, all warm, soft and chocolaty.
I found the phone number for the Inn, it's 1-202-785-2000. There's a couple of DC Doubletrees.....the one you want is on N. Hampshire Street. Find out their exact address to tell the cabbie. I would give them a call right now and see what the room rate is.
Lock your room in ASAP. You'll probably have to pay something up front. Suck it up and do it. Put off reserving a room at your peril when a million-man anything is going to descend on the nation's capitol. They have a refund policy if you can't make it. Many hotels may already be partially filled for the rally event.
You can trust moi, MinuteGal, aka Bahama Mama, organizer of the Freeper fund-raising cruises, to recommend a very nice, safe place. I roomied with The Right Stuff. Maybe she can chime in here about how nice the place was.
For the March for Justice and other DC freeps, I actually took Amtrack from the Tampa station to DC (very scenic ride), pulled into DC's Union Station, there are always lines of cabs waiting there, took one right to the Doubletree 10 minutes away....and the whole trip to and fro DC was smooth and seamless.
Took a cab from the Inn right to the Washington Monument grounds on the big day. DC taxis are surprisingly low-cost.
I had an extra day to see the sights I wanted to see....the Smithsonian, museums, etc. are pretty much clustered together.
The vast Union Station is a work of art in itself with unbelievable architecture, countless shops, restaurants and bakeries baking out in the open and putting out luscious crispy breads and pastries, some of which I took home with me on the train.
Always bring an extra semi-empty bag with you when you visit DC. You most certainly will want to buy SOMETHING.
I just love the city and many parts of what I saw on my trips made my eyes well up with the beauty and the history.
You can still be with freepers for dinner at a decided-upon restaurant.
Start saving your $$$s for the trip. It'll be worth every single penny.....and it's a total experience you won't forget.
