Most people on Daily Kos are (painfully) aware of Free Republic, the bottomless digital repository of bigotry, authoritarianism and hatred for most other Americans, all wrapped in 90's-era HTML. Usually, sane people who stop by there to check it out, find something utterly appalling within a few minutes of browsing, and close the page, never to return. Thus, there isn't a lot of detailed knowledge of Free Republic on Daily Kos.
One important feature of the site is that it is community-supported through donation drives called "Freepathons." In 2008, Jim Robinson, the site founder, seems to have decided to purge the archives of all but the current and most-recent Freepathon threads. This is a wise decision on his part because you don't have to go back very far to see that Free Republic is struggling to meet its modest fundraising goals.
I work in the tech sector also - we have an old addage represented by an acronym - KISS - Keep It Simple Stupid. Works well in most areas (!)
Listen, I just gave to the Freepathon for the first time (I’m fairly new here) - let’s dig down and give. It takes money to host this site, to pay for the servers and admin on the site, to protect it from attacks and so forth. As someone else mentioned - give $20, or $5 - give more if you can.
Daily Kos is vitriolic and acidic, smug and self righteous - and they accuse of being so. I suppose there’s a lesson here related to true humility for all of us. That’s one big reason why I pray, actually. The Scriptures say, ‘love does not brag and is not arrogant.’ Let us strive to that ideal as we seek the truth. That same passage says, love ‘does not rejoice in unrighteousness, but rejoices with the truth.’
Archives purged of Freepathon threads? That is interesting, I wonder why?
Maybe there is a limit on how many “Woo hoos” the software can handle before crashing. ;)
The last time I posted at DU, I took Hitler's own words out of Mein Kampf, but where it read Jews or Jewery, I replaced it with conservative or conservatism. And then I would post the passages over at DU. I got some praise. I got a one "well said", another guy, one of their then more well known posters praised me and said that I wrote like Bill Clinton. It wasnt long before they caught on. After about a half dozen posts or so, my posts got deleted and I was banned.
The multi-colored text posts take up much more space on the hard drive...

I’ve had no trouble at all in posting to that scumrag: you just got to insult them in language they don’t understand.
I hope that many have had a chance to read the 648 comments on June 12-13 after Markos first posted the COLB forgery: those remarks underscore just how severly mentally disabled a group of blog readers can be.
I’d venture to say that any one of uor readers has a higher !Q than all of theirs added together.
I LOVE the speed of fr....it is fast... I too can read it on hand held, and no annoying popup ads, and last but not least..NO time consuming, boggling 3rd party junk downloading... tracking banners/cookies.
yep, FR is the best format..and with that said, I don’t think I’ve every visited the kos site. Never saw a need to, and judging form the comments, I won’t. They sound like liberals.. (hahaha)

Good afternoon Daily Kos that is if you know how to have one.
I’m a former Democrat and a member of Free Republic. You know, that site you claim bad things about only to see that your site for the last 3-4 years isn’t any better and in fact is littered with leftist hate.
Well what you consider hate on here I consider amusing entertainment and it’s extremist organizations/movements such yours which have contributed to my leaving what was once the Democratic Party. At least this site represents law abiding American values while your site represents Hugo Chavez values and whatever else you make up along the way.
