Alaskans Sour on Sarah Palin
WSJ ^ | 5/7/09 | Susan Davis

Once billed as the most popular governor in America, Alaska Republican Sarah Palin has seen her popularity take a dive. According to a recent Hays Research poll, 54% of Alaskans have either a very or somewhat positive view of the governor and 2008 GOP vice presidential nominee while 42% have a very or somewhat negative view. The results are vastly different than a similar poll taken by Hays Research about a year ago which gave Palin an 86% positive rating and a 9% negative rating.

I can’t believe (what am I saying..of course I can believe it) that so much is being made of this one “poll” of 400 Alaskans—with no party identity noted!

All part of the plan -- destroy her at any cost with the constant media drumbeat.

Having said that, if she's not getting professional political advice, she needs to get some that she can trust. I know she has great instincts, especially about Alaskans, but she needs some PR help up there. She'll get no help from the Alaska or national GOP, none at all. She's rocked a lot of boats up there.

Well then, how would you suggest a person design a sample frame to poll the state of Alaska?

Sarah will win governor re-election in 2010 and depending how the economy is doing, if it’s Carter part 2 she will win 2012 if she chooses to run. (I wouldn’t wish a post Obama economy on anybody)

We love Sarah

(Another poll reported a couple of weeks ago in the ADN showing actual projected matchups against real Democrat opponents showed nobody in Alaska could beat her in a race for Governor}

Could you please provide a link for all to see?

I’d like to see what Rasmussen and Survey USA have to say.

In early March, this same pollster had Palin at 64% approval. At the end of March, the pollster had Palin at 59%. In May, the Hays Research has Palin at 54% approval.

Palin publicized feuds with the legislature have hurt her more than the silly ethics complaints and Levi doing the MSM tour.

I know of no poll conducted in Alaska by Rasmussen or Survey USA.

The poll I was talking about was a private poll reported in the ADN. No numbers were reported but here's the report from "the Alaska Ear" on Apr. 25:

IT'S STARTING . . . The grapevine reports Bob Penney commissioned a poll to test some business people and public figures as possible candidates for governor next year. Apparently he's not a Sarah fan.

Ear can't find out who was on the list but word is the pollster concluded no one can beat Palin.

Link (scroll down)

FYI, Bob Penney is a real estate developer on the Kenai Peninsula and has close ties with the Murkowskis and Ted Stevens. He was involved with the shady land deal with Lisa Murkowski and her husband. Penney sold some land to Murkowski in a sweetheart deal. When it hit the fan, Murkowski was forced to sell the land back to Penney. Bob Penney is NO fan of Sarah Palin.

Since this question came up about polls, I thought I would alert you to post #66 above in case you didn't know about it.

While Gov. Palin commits to hold fundraisers for Lisa Murkowski, Murkowski allies and probably the rest of the rat-infested RINO clan up there are plotting to take her down. What a despicable bunch.

Redstate Poster Achance wrote this lengthy piece that shedds some light about Palin’s governing style.

Paying attention to her government would be good. Understanding that she can’t rule by fiat and that there is a Legislature to be considered. They were all scared to even be seen together while the FBI was in full cry here, so she could run roughshod over them. That’s over and they can feel the weaknesses in her Adminstration. There’s also some fearsome desire for payback on the part of some powerful Republcan legislators, so it will take some fearsome making nice. She never had any support much in Juneau, but our new Republican Legislator tried to work with her with little success on a new State office building here. She’s made implacable foes of the Republican legislators in the rest of Southeast Alaska by acting like Southeast isn’t even a part of the State. That doesn’t change because it plays well in Wasilla to hate Southeast though nobody there has ever been here. The WAR appointment alienated what little support she had in rural/Native Alaska and making it without any real consultation with Republican legislators didn’t help her relations with them. That was a first; no gubernatorial cabinet level appointment has EVER been turned down before. She’ll never see 80-90% approval numbers again, but that was unrealistic anyway. She got a holiday from the ADN, something no Republcan had ever gotten before and that ended the day she accepted the VP slot and will never return. They did do a halfa@#ed criticism of all the Ethics Act complaints on the lead editorial the other day though, but those had reached the point where they were making the Ds look silly. So, she gets to be a real world governor dealing with real world things and her superstar days here are over, but she can mend some fences. The question is, will she?

Thanks,Al

My initial reaction to this BS was to call for old Reagan polls at the end of his term as Gov. of CA.to establish some sort of context. I should have known better. I confess I was duped into believing that maybe it was true. What a rookie mistake.

When I was channel surfing tonight I caught MSNBC playing it up big. Ganging up on her every chance they get.

I'm glad you caught this. Nice going, spy man :)

Well, as a former member of the Tony Knowles and Frank Murkowski administrations, I'm sure Art Chance has a lot of light to shed...LMAO.

How about no poll at all. Polls can be and are manipulated to produce what the pollster wants to prove. When the result don’t support that they are not disclosed.

I think this is what the democrats, and RINO republicans, are getting in their insider polls, and why they are trying everything they know to trash Sarah before the next election.

Go Sarah.

The left is evil. No doubt about it.

The fact that the dims got their asses handed to them in the Anchorage mayoral election will only aggravate them more. I love it!
