Another comic great has died. Dom DeLuise passed away at a Los Angeles hospital around 6:00 PM Monday, reports TMZ.
A film and TV staple since the mid-1960's, DeLuise was an expert foil for other performers, including Dean Martin, Mel Brooks (in six of his films) and Burt Reynolds, with whom he starred in the "Cannonball Run" flicks. In 1980, he played the lead in "Fatso," a film written and directed by Anne Bancroft, the late wife of Mel Brooks.
A noted gourmand, DeLuise authored two books of his Italian recipes, and wrote several children's books. He voiced numerous characters in animated films and television.
DeLuise is survived by his wife of 43 years, Carol Arthur, three sons, Peter, Michael and David, and three grandchildren.
His scene in Fatso when he is trying to lose weight and calls in his support group for help is one of my favs.

‘”Why don’t we all drink some a-very sexy wi-i-i-ine!”
I forgot about his ridiculous role in that very funny movie. To think that Leo McKern was in that as well! God rest ‘em all.’
Here’s that classic opera scene:

And that was his real wife and sons portraying his movie family as well. And remember his wife as the School Marm in BLAZING SADDLES.
RIP, Dom ... all those fantastic moments and memories.
A class act. RIP, Mr. D.
Every time one of these guys I grew up with dies I know my time is not far away. RIP Dom DeLuise
Also, if he hasn't posted it here already (he had posted it on a now-pulled duplicate thread), COBOL2JAVA has an interesting tidbit on a minor role which DeLuise had early in his career...
COBOL, over to you.
RIP, Dom.
Ya beat me in here by seconds! :-)

Remember the routine about the greasy Italian subs that you had to eat with your legs apart so the grease wouldn’t drip on you?

Heh, to me either, from the downhill side of 50. ;o)

Deluise was from Bensonhurst, Brooklyn, NY.
Didn’t know that. Thanks. I have a couple of brothers living there.
I never like those Burt Reynolds films. But ‘’Fatso’’ and that scene your talking was one of my favorites!
I know a dude who could play a Dom DeLuise impersonator. What’s the competition like in Vegas?
