GWB 2002 Speech :”More and more people own their homes in America today. Yet we have a problem here in America because fewer than half the Hispanics and African Americans own their own homes. Thats a home ownership gap; a gap that we got to work together to close. And by the end of this decade well increase the number of minority homeowners (future Obama voters ) by 5.5 million families. “
“One of the major obstacles to minority home-ownership is financing. Fannie Mae and Freddy Mac (who I will bail out in 2008) have committed to provide more money for lenders, they committed to meet the shortage of capital available for minority home-buyers. Freddie Mac just began 25 initiatives around the country to dismantle barriers (like income requirements) and create better opportunities for home-ownership. One of the programs is designed to help families with bad credit histories to qualify for home ownership loans (by faking their income) . You dont have to have a lousy home for first time home-buyers. You put your mind to it the first time low income home buyer can have just as nice a house as anyone else (till those adjustable rates go up). “

Jeb tried this in FL before W did it nationally. FL must have had some sucess back then ????
oops. ;-)
He was and is totally clueless as to why his popularity among Independents and Republicans began to nosedive. He was never popular with Dems. His stupid amnesty push and constant insults of those who'd supported him cost him his popularity among many who voted for him.
So, W, figure it out. You totally lied saying you opposed amnesty during the 2004 campaign, then conveniently forgot that and pushed and pushed and insulted and insulted. Try hard to figure out why your popularity plummeted.
The comment I replied to was pretty much incoherent.
The ownership society was not and is not a bad idea... it’s an American idea. Demoncrats bastardized and utilized the idea to line their pockets... sorry, I don’t blame GW for that. I hold him responsible for many things, but not that....GW could not run for Prez again, what would he have to gain by politically expedient give aways?
Bush II was a total catastrophe.
We can thank two people more than anyone elese for Obama-in-the-White-House: Bush II and John McCain.
Considering the miserable job he and his father did, the frequent mentioning of Brother Jeb is alarming.
Read my tagline...
You mean like after the 2006 republican election loss when he announced it was a great opportunity to get amnesty passed through a democrat congress? That amnesty bill would had given SS payments to illegals, and scores of other legal benefits they cant get now. It gave them FICA credit for time they worked illegally too (Bush and McCain knew they had to be taken care of at retirement.) But borrowed money is no object when you have to save your legacy.
Why would Bush push his then? To restore his legacy, he was wounded and dangerous, TARP, Pelosi stimulus, remember he justified TARP by saying he didnt want Historians calling him Hoover, Even the Surge which he opposed previously on political grounds*we were winning, right? why surge?) he flipped because Iraq failure meant his personal failure in history books and he knew it,.
My favorite is his UAW bailout. Democrats wont try TARP or Auto bailout because its so popular, But they got Bush to do both citing compassion and he was hoping to save himself, but destroyed party.
This makes it crystal clear. You support socialism and Barack Obama.
None of your claims make any sense.
Your best argument is that the Republican Congress could be blamed.
Duh!
That has been obvious to everyone who is actually a conservative. It is particularly acute in the Senate.
But to attempt as you have to deliberately deceive conservatives on these boards that Bush advocated giving loans to people who cannot make the payments is a flat out lie.
If Bush were a “tool” he would not have advocated for changing the laws 17 times. My notes are not mere speeches, these are direct consultations with Congress.
Who got more Black votes and Hispanic votes— McCain or Bush?
The correct answer is Bush. I am not here to encourage the permanent formation of socialism in America— which you clearly are.
You keep reducing Bush’s advocacy to mere motion of some hidden machine that makes Bush a socialist. You refuse to look at facts and evidence and you refuse to specify your conspiracy. That is self destructive to conservatism.
McCain bashed Bush to the hilt. That argument failed. That argument brought Obama to power.
The facts are not on your side.
You don’t want to directly challenge democrats, the President and the Media because you know it would be too hard. You want to play your “independent” card to lighten your rhetorical load with your democratic friends. You don’t support conservatism because you deny all aspects of Bush’s conservatism. You refuse to acknowledge good arguments and resort to your conspiracy hidden machine arguments.
Bush was dead on arguing for mortgage reform and spot on for directly confronting Congress about it. 2007 was not too late to stop the current crisis and makes the Democrats absolutely and exclusively the blame for the current crisis. This betrays your point of not supporting democrats.
You do support the democrats because you argue they could not have stopped the crisis in 2007.
That means that in February of 2009, Obama can stand unchallenged in the well of the Congress and say that he inheirited these problems and the same Democratic Congress who created these problems can stand up and give him a standing ovation!
That is the absurdity of the times we live in and the foolishness of your arguments. You are prepared to stand and cheer with the Democratic congress because you also in your own BDS way agree that the 2007 Democrats had NO capacity to adopt mortgage reform and prevent the current crisis.
How much are you paid?
Too continue then as if we have not had enough of these worthless Panderers there is talk of pulling Jeb out of that trash pile!!!!!!!! Enough!! Get a real Conservative we have been tortured enough.
In this case I posted a clip of GWB speech, word for word. I suppose you can claim he was imitated . There is so much more freepers have sent me about Bush and this subject(he especially wanted illegals to buy homes, a big part of problem.) . The problem with you, Mr “Defend Bush or die trying”, is that your canned talking points are idiotic and failed miserable last election. Before we can beat liberals we have to discredit termites like YOU!

RE “This makes it crystal clear. You support socialism and Barack Obama....How much are you paid?”
LOL,You are killing me . Your posts make it obvious you are a relative of Bush, or La-Raza, whatever and you are defending one individual, no principles. Your nazi like "You are with Bush and me, or against Bush and me" antics are a joke. Go back to 2002 where that crap worked.
As a termite let me inform you I am infesting and destroying your pro obama pro socialist house.
Bush made 17 interventions with congress including the current dem congress of 2007.
You support the democratic congress of 2009 and president Obama.
You are outraged that you are outed on this.
Outraged LOL
Bush's second term was a spectacular disaster, especially for the Republican party. The party went from what might have been its strongest position in 50 or more years after the 2004 election, to maybe its weakest position ever after the 2008 election.
The more people examine his second term, and the policies they pushed, the more condemning it will become. Bush apologists have also said here often that he always told us what his plans were re: illegal aliens were. 100% untrue. During a 2004 debate with Kerry, Kerry supported amnesty and Bush opposed amnesty, said we couldn't reward illegal behavior, etc.
They also like to brag about his SCOTUS choices, conveniently forgetting that his real choices were Alberto Gonzales and Harriet Miers.
I wondered for a time why the Bush admin. and the party didn't clearly lay out what caused the sub prime crisis and financial crisis and make it a constant campaign issue. I knew part of the reason, but I guess they knew they had contributed far too much to the crisis themselves to be credible, even though the Dems were several time more responsible over three decades.
From the third Bush/Kerry debate:
Now, it's very important for our citizens to also know that I don't believe we ought to have amnesty. I don't think we ought to reward illegal behavior. There are plenty of people standing in line to become a citizen, and we ought not to crowd these people ahead of them in line. If they want to become a citizen, they can stand in line, too. And here's where my opponent and I differ. In September 2003, he supported amnesty for illegal aliens.
In that 2004 debate, W used the weasel words to lie, before the public even knew the double, lying meaning of "amnesty" and "get in line", etc.:
EXCERPT......Ten years ago, for example, the typical conforming mortgage required a down payment of 10 to 20 percent, and low-down payment mortgages were considered too risky. But then we helped to standardize the 3 to 5 percent down payment loan, brought it to global capital markets, and made it available to lenders and communities nationwide. Now low-down payment loans are commonplace. And we just adopted a new variance in our underwriting standards that will make the $500 down payment loan widely available as well...
In 1994, we pledged to provide $1 trillion in capital to ten million underserved families by the end of 2000. Thanks to our housing and industry partners, we met that goal early. Then in 2000, we launched our American Dream Commitment, a pledge to provide $2 trillion in capital to 18 million underserved families by the year 2010, including $400 billion targeted specifically for minority families (later raised to $700 billion in response to President Bushs Minority Homeownership Initiative).
After four of the strongest years in housing and mortgage finance history, weve already surpassed the top-line goals of this commitment. But our work is far from complete.
So in January 2004, we announced our Expanded American Dream Commitment and pledged significant new resources to tackle Americas toughest housing challenges. Our new commitment has three main goals.
First, we will expand access to homeownership for six million first-time home buyers in the next ten years, including 1.8 million minority first-time home buyers. We also will help raise the national minority homeownership rate from 49 percent to 55 percent, with the ultimate goal of closing it entirely.
Second, we will help new and long-term homeowners stay in their homes through a series of initiatives, and commit $15 billion to preserve affordable rental housing and $1.5 billion to support the revitalization of public housing communities.
Third, we will increase the supply of affordable housing and support community development activities in at least 1,000 neighborhoods across the country through our American Communities Fund, and through targeted investments like Low-Income Housing Tax Credits that help finance affordable rental housing.
It is because of initiatives like our Trillion Dollar Commitment and our American Dream Commitment that we have exceeded our HUD affordable housing goals for ten consecutive years. And we have increased our financing of mortgages to African Americans by over 400 percent and to Hispanic Americans by 470 percent in the past ten years, compared with a 205 percent increase in overall financing.
Our Expanded American Dream Commitment will help us do even more.
His end goals were mostly liberal, he was just willing to try conservative rhetoric and sometimes conservative means to get there.
You do not deny any of the arguments and rationales provided.
For those on these boards who recognize this anti-conservative agenda that you are running, its not enough to rebut it here.
We need to go their home sites at Huffington and elsewhere and pry into the Change meme.
It is not difficult to begin wedging the space of unment expectations. Sickoflibs idealized leader should have fixed all the problems alongside his Congress that has been in power since 2009.
Why have the democrats failed to deliver?
Why has Obama failed?
Why does Obama literally kiss up [or should I say kiss down] to the Saudi King?
Obama must be a conservative plant.
Until conservatives are willing to get tough and start fighting fire with fire, they will find themselves on the short end of the stick.
There is no stable advocacy in Sickoflibs arguments— just Bush bad.
That is because leftist have no agenda except their own power.
“George W. Bush is a meathead.”
I have said the same, and worse, many times.
he killed us on spending. He betrayed us on immigration. He devastated us with ‘compassionate conservatism’.
but... after the last 100 days, I sure do miss him.
The Bush defenders seem to forget how well he worked with democrats, This initiative moved democrats out into the counties to vote democrat, like here in Maryland.I used to be a "Bush defender" and on some subjects -- Iraq, "torture" and some other aspects of the WOT I still am -- but when it comes to Bush's understanding of capitalism and the role it plays in preserving individual liberty, I believe that Bush's understanding was and is very low, as it is with all RINOs.
And on many issues Bush certainly was a RINO.
The tax cuts? Well, yes. The tax cuts were good. But they weren't enough. On too many other issues he climbed into bed with the party of Barney Frank (with Barney himself often right there under the sheets). And why? In my opinion, Bush always wanted to be liked by the lefties, an evil habit he picked up from his squishy-RINO dad.
If Bush had taken a few minutes each week to read FR he may have learned what nearly all of us here knew all along... no matter how much demo-butt he licked, they were NEVER going to like him. And they didn't. And they don't.
So he basically sold out his country, sold out his core supporters, for a sick illusion... the fantasy that he could get the lefties to like him. Which was never going to happen. Not in a million years.
So he sold us out for nothing.
We went very, very cheap.
The cheapest slavery-sale in the history of human civilization.
