FCC Announces May 7 'Diversity Committee' Meeting - Behold a New 'Fairness' Doctrine

Behold one of the new "Fairness" Doctrines - "media diversity" - coming soon to a radio station near you.

President Barack Obama's Federal Communications Commission (FCC) has released the names of the thirty-one members of their Advisory Committee On Diversity For Communications In The Digital Age. This May 7 gathering is made up of a laundry list of left-wing grievance groups, with a smattering of radio and television companies included to break up the monotony.

Not a single conservative organization is taking part in this Commission - more than a dozen Leftist groups are. A little ironic for a "diversity" panel, is it not?

Chairing the meeting is Henry Rivera, a former FCC Commissioner who was (and presumably still is) a strong proponent of the Censorship Doctrine, also mis-known as the "Fairness" Doctrine.

Many, many liberals in Washington have over the last several years called for a reinstatement of the Doctrine. But push-back from people who have read and actually understand the First Amendment led the Left to realize that the political price to bring it back was too high, so they MovedOn.org.

Of course, their desire to silence the lone voices of their opposition had not lessened in the slightest. They're still just as dictatorial, just pragmatically so.

The dictatorship marches on. When they start marching us into camps will someone wake up? I don’t think so. They seem to be unstoppable because they don’t give a sh*t what the public thinks. They know they can do whatever they want and we won’t do a thing about it.

I don't dispute that, and I pray it does not come to pass. But it very well may. This could get really ugly. OR we just sit by and allow our freedoms to be taken away, all of them. One has to wonder what the average American will do.

I see they left off Robert Johnson, who actually founded a network (BET), instead of just pimping his way into “chief diversity officer” at a Fortune 500. Johnson is the richest black man in America. However he derided Barack Obama, ridiculed him on his coke use and community organizing, supported Hillary and was friends with G.W. Bush, so he is unwelcome.

Thank you so much for reminding us of this man. I remember seeing him speak of this; I was shocked at his allegations of coke use, but my gut told me that he knew of what he spoke.

"You're both missing the point."

Actually, my response was right on target. You asked....

"The unanswered question is: are the Conservative Talk Radio icons willing to really fight for their microphone?"

And I answered. What's your beef?

Won't do a thing about it

or

can't do a thing about it?

So many Americans are befuddled in utter amazement. Not all of them are like us. Up-to-date etc. They are just trying to make ends meet, watched their retirement funds disappear overnight, stunned at the trillions numbers being tossed about by our government and don't yet grasp we've been sold into serfdom. Those that are waking up to this new dictatorship, don't know what to do?

Some joined the Tea Party, only to find they are now considered extremists. Many won't speak out due to the intimidation tactics of the smiley faced fascists. We have Washington threatening banks, shareholders, and lenders

Chilling Audio “Whitehouse Threatened One Of My Clients”-Attorney For Chrysler Lenders (Audio)http://www.freerepublic.com/focus/f-bloggers/2242589/posts

They are protected from being held criminal, sued, investigated and the courts have basically told us we can't question them or demand FOIA.

We have a dictator that made fun of our grievances this past week. He tried to marginalize us, push us out not just to the edges, but out of American culture. There is no longer talk of trying to grasp being a Patriot is extremist, we are the extremists in our American culture or in a few months we, we will no longer even count.

I am grateful to have lived in time when waving my flag, saying my Pledge of Allegiance, and Praying that God Bless America was considered part of my liberty, part of my God given rights.

For the time of Liberty is closing, it has been but a flash in the pan of history. Today, today we lift the heavy yoke of serfdom. We see what our dictator does and are unable to stop them.

They pledged their life, their fortunes, and their sacred honor.

My guess is that any of those group’s approved stations will be nothing but non-stop racial invective against whites. They are hate crimes in themselves.

I have been thinking about this. Even if these station owners are dedicated to leftism, will they not want to make a profit? Conservative talk radio is the only profitable talk format.

Unless they are thinking they will work on government subsidized radio. Will the people allow that? Maybe with our dumbed-down electorate.

This entire discussion becomes a double-edged sword on many fronts.

First, if anyone writes rules to bring mass diversity to AM...then the courts will be clogged with lawsuits over why it doesn’t apply to FM, to music choices, public access TV, or regular TV.

Then you get into the profit mechanism that AM currently uses. If you devise a system where AM stations go under...then you kinda become responsible for it (hinting of bailouts for years or decades). I could easily see a station in west Texas with little competition making $300k a year under the current scheme of things. With a change and shift...they might make barely $150k...so they are losing half of what they could typically make.

Then we get into the shift. Rush and the others already have plan B ready to put into action...between internet and satellite radio. Satellite radio has been stalled for several years on subscriptions and has almost bankrupted itself in waiting for something to occur. This is likely the “something” that they always hoped for. So you will naturally pay for this privilege of listening to various progressive radio talk shows...but at least you get what you want.

Finally, at the tailend of this whole game....are at least one hundred radio stations that will likely disappear by the end of 2010...unable to make enough money to play this game. In some communities....where there wasn’t any real competition....you might lose the one and only AM station within ten miles of your house.

If fairness and diversity were such important things, then you’d demand those on TV programming and have openly gay TV shows, proactive American Indian detective shows, Latino hospital shows, and Scientology’s version of Doctor Phil on each afternoon. For some reason, we really don’t care much about diversity or fairness.

I don’t see any move on the left to diversify such things like NPR or Air Amerikkka or the New York Times, so why should the right diversify what it controls?

We already have that, it's called "niche programming", from LOGO TV for the openly gays, to Galavision, Univision and FuturaTV for the Hispanic hospital dramas.  Nothing yet on Scientology though, but there is plenty of religious programming on TV.
