If Mitt Romney is in, I'm out!
Declaration of Independence | April 30, 2009 | Jim Robinson

Posted on 04/30/2009 11:50:51 AM PDT by Jim Robinson

Yeah, I know. Said some similar things about Bush in 2000. But at least he was pro-life, pro-family, etc, and thank God we supported him over the idiot All Green Gore.

Said similar things about McCain in 2008. But when asked the question "when does human life begin?," and he unabashedly stated, "At conception, of course," I had to take notice. Then when he announced Sarah Palin as his running mate, I decided to support her. I voted for Sarah (and the white haired old geezer that came along with the package).

But Romney is a NO go. And I don't care who this socialist, abortionist, homosexualist, constitution trampling bastard picks for running mate. If Romney's in I'm out!

G.O.P., R.I.P!

I don’t see him hanging out on all the Romney and Mormon threads with the lot of you. That’s the difference.

We, kindred spirits who support Mitt, including, but not limited to, Ann Coulter, Judge Bork, Jim DeMint, Pete Hoekstra, Wendy Long, Mary Ann Glendon, Jay Sekulow, Dr. John Wilke, Sheriff Joe Arpaio, Tom Tancredo and I, will have to agree to disagree with you and all the Froofer gang on this issue.

The problem with those lists from the past 2008 primary are that even some of the so called rabid anti-Romney critics here at FR would be on that list.

It was never meant to be a permanent list, that election is over, and there is an entire new slate of wonderful candidates to choose from, including many sitting, successful, popular Governors, these are life long conservatives that actually win elections and then win more elections, and will win reelections, you can't keep holding on to that last spasm of desperation from a dead past.

I don't want to make you paranoid but you are on his anti-Romney thread right now.

"you can't keep holding on to that last spasm of desperation from a dead past."

That's what some Republicans told Reagan after his first unsuccessful bid for the R nomination and the presidency.

Last I checked, Romney was pro-God, pro-Life, pro-Family, pro-Liberty, pro-Constitutuion, pro-free enterprise and pro-America.

(Uh. Which God? Mormons believe thousands/millions of them exist)

Probably the one that lives “adjacent” to Kolob.

In the Latter Day Saint movement, Kolob is a star or planet mentioned in the Book of Abraham as being nearest to the throne or residence of God.

you accused me

LOL. I did no such thing. I have no idea what brings you to your faulty conclusions about Mitt Romney. Those three possible reasons I listed are just my opinion of the top contenders for what might be the cause. You may suffer from all three or none at all. It could be something else entirely.

All I know is that I am a conservative, I have done my research on Romney and I find myself in good company surrounded by Mitt fans who are stellar conservatives -- some of whom I have admired all my life (see my prior post). I feel comfortable trusting their judgment on Mitt over that of anonymous posters who may not even be Republicans/conservatives or have our country's best interests at heart.

You sound like someone who wants to make decisions based on facts, not mere emotions, half-truths, sentences taken out of context or decades-old youtube campaign clips. As such, you may want to study Freeper Unmarked Package's homepage for the truth about Mitt. All of the smears, lies and half-truths are addressed in a straight-forward and fair manner. If you are honestly interested in the truth, it will take you days to do that information justice.

I think it is wonderful that you donated money to Sarah's PAC. I think she and Mitt are two of the most dynamic politicians who carry the conservative mantle for us. I support them both. We are lucky to have them in our party. Way back in May of 2007, before most people on FR even knew who she was, I chose Palin as Mitt's running mate right here on FR. They would have made a winning team IMO. Romney's people would have never handled her as incompetently as the McCain team did.

At this juncture, it seems silly and juvenile to pit two of our brightest stars against each other, unless one wants them both to fail. Unlike you, your pal, Sarah Palin, likes Mitt Romney quite a bit and probably even voted for him in the primary (as did a majority of her fellow Alaskans).
Palin spoke about feeling allegiance with former presidential hopeful Mitt Romney. “He said all the right things about resource development in Alaska,” she said.
Sarah Palin Republican Vice Presidential Nominee Plugs Romney in MTV Interview

At such a critical time, it behooves us to concentrate on all of the things that unite us - just like our favorite candidates have done - in order to fight our true enemies who threaten our lives, liberty and freedom as we know it.

That's what some Republicans told Reagan after his first unsuccessful bid for the R nomination and the presidency.

Reagan was a famous conservative that emerged in at least 1947 if he wasn't known as such already, Reagan was successful at getting elected and reelected, he wasn't an anti-Reagan liberal guy that pulled off a single unsuccessful term as governor with no reelection.

So you believe, Resty, in the Mormon “White Horse Prophecy” that Joseph Smith made & dozens of LDS leaders-to-follow believed? That the constitution would supposedly “hang by a thread” and that the Mormons would rush in to save it — including “Zion’s elders?”

It sure sounds like it.

Reagan served two terms as Governor of CA from 1966 to 1974. One more term than Mitt Romney.

Reagan ran for president in 1968 and 1976 failing BOTH times to capture the Republican nomination. He won both the Republican nomination and the presidency during his THIRD bid for the presidency in 1980.

You keep skipping over important facts, Reagan was a famous conservative leader and spokesman, a 9 year military man, a true leader and thinker of the conservative movement. Romney was anti Reagan and a liberal, that only spent 150,000,000 dollars in the last three years to repackage himself. Reagan lived it, breathed it, and even became a historical figure of creating it.

You can study all of Reagan’s decades of video and never see him taking passionate, strong stands like these, well you can, but from the opposite position.

Whigs they replaced was only 23 years old when it disappeared in 1856.

- - - - — - - - - - - -
I am not an American political historian (I am a medievalist), but from what I remember when the Republicans were founded there were only the Whigs and Democrats (making the Repubs a “third party”. With the rise of the Republican party, the Whigs disappeared, thus leaving us with only 2 parties again.

explains why some talk show hosts were bought off, or felt that they HAD, to say
something positive about backstabber, socialist, and fabricator, Mitt Romney.

Wow. I just lost a great deal of respect for some talk show hosts, if that is the reason for their “support”.

My impression is that it was almost an instant replacement “They were organized on February 28, 1854, held their first convention on July 6, and elected forty-four Representatives and fifteen Senators in November (19% of the House; 25% of the Senate)*.” by 1860 they had it all, Presidency, Senate, Congress. (There were real “third parties” back then to

Medved explains it but I don’t know his explanation, but it sure bears no resemblence with our 49 “third parties” today and of course the country and electorate are entirely different today, the Libertarians have been around almost 40 years and only have less than 226,000 registered members.

That is certainly true. Our political system in many ways is closer to European systems of parliament where every party has seats and there are 200 parties.

But the GOP is dying. I have spent over 20 years trying to help reform and bring the party more in line with conservative values, at the local, state and National level. I have been very active politically. Yet is it increasingly frustrating. I see a glimmer of hope now and again, but this last election was VERY disappointing.

I feel the party has left me. I need to go somewhere, I am not sure how much longer I can stand by the party as they keep moving to the left. A Romney nom WILL be the last straw for me. I cannot abide that.

It’s also worth noting that the Whigs collapsed in much the same way the GOP is collapsing today.
