At his 100th-day town hall meeting in St. Louis, Mo., President Obama took direct aim at the anti-tax tea party demonstrations that have cropped up over the last month and took a veiled shot at FOX News Channel, at the cable news network closely associated with the protests.
Asked about fiscal discipline and entitlements reform, Obama seemed to be repressing a smile as he jabbed critics of his spending plans.
"Those of you who are watching certain news channels on which I'm not very popular, and you see folks waving tea bags around, Obama said, let me just remind them that I am happy to have a serious conversation about how we are going to cut our health care costs down over the long term, how we are going to stabilize Social Security.
But, Obama continued, let's not play games and pretend that the reason [for the deficit] is because of the Recovery Act."
Its the presidents most direct response so far to the protests that flared up in some locations around tax day, on April 15.
In his briefing that day, White House Press Secretary Robert Gibbs told reporters: I don't know if there's a specific response to protests..I think you saw the president today talk about as candidate Obama promising to bring a tax cut to 95 percent of working families in America, and as president delivering that tax cut.
I was at the Orlando TEA party where you gave an excellent speech. I did see some tea bags, however the only thing I saw being waved were signs and flags. Most attendees were waving American flags and Don't Tread on Me flags.
But, Obama continued, let’s not play games and pretend that the reason [for the deficit] is because of the Recovery Act.”
Its not the reason, just the contributing factor..
And we know which channels and which media he is popular with:

Well, let's see - you've gotten the unemployment rate up to Jimmy Carter levels, and raised taxes on smokers. So, yeah, I guess you've cut taxes for those folks, as they no longer earn enough to pay taxes. We are in the middle of the largest income downturn ever, with even your previous unions earning less - so, I guess they too got their tax cut.
And the root of all of this was government programs which forced bad loans on banks - sure, they're not blameless, they went and played around with the toys that they made to try to cover their arses from the anticipated debt that these idiotic policies would cause, but had they not been forced to do these things in the first place, no bank's board would have approved keeping up these farce gambles.
And now 0bama is going to dig into the health care system, after bankrupting the treasury, in order to 'save' it.
Since tax cuts are being brought about by having our jobs cut, our salaries slashed, what's the plan for health care?
It might be in the interest of the Democrats to start listening to those who are waving tea bags, before they decide that Lipton's isn't enough to get your attention.
Leave our health care alone you bastard!
In the ideal world of Obama, a world he is trying very much to effectuate, ALL news agencies will agree with him as do ABC, CBS, NBC, CNN, TNN, and MSNBC.
Like Hitler, Stalin and other egomaniacs, the Obamanation can’t tolerate criticism. Like a Caesar or a Nero or a Caligula, only flattery is appropriate.
Zero is really not very bright. He just brought the whole thing to life from semi-dormancy.
And he can’t win this one.
How can anyone respect a president who acts so unpresidential!! How dare he insult honest, hard-working Americans because they had the audacity to peacefully protest at the Tea Parties!!
The President of the United States is taking verbal swipes at the “other” half of this country’s citizens and it is disrespectful and disgraceful!!!!!!!!
This guy hasn’t an ounce of class. He’s a punk, just a punk.
“Name the time and place,0bambi. Be forewarned, you aint going to like it. The only condition is you will listen.
Ohhh!!! Well. The time for discussion is now over and we’ve got to move on to the people biz-nus.
His 100th town hall meeting of his presentcy.
I would love that, great idea.
Does anyone have the audio for this? When I heard it played on Rush, I thought he said he wanted to have a “intelligent” conversation, not a “serious” conversation as this states.
Maybe I mis-heard, but I thought he impugned our intelligence. Either way its still an attack on us.
He’s a brat brought up by aging grand-parents. Grandma should have back handed him a few times and Grampa shoulda put a boot up his you know what to knock the serious chip on his shoulder he just can’t seem to get rid of!
Did he scratch his face with his middle finger when he said this?
He really thinks we are dumb as toast.
See tagline
Indeed it is and that is his fundamental weakness. A narcissist can not tolerate criticism.
