Specter says he's switching from GOP to Democrats

WASHINGTON (AP) - Veteran Republican Sen. Arlen Specter disclosed plans Tuesday to switch parties, a move intended to boost his chances of winning re-election next year that will also push Democrats closer to a 60-vote filibuster-resistant majority.

"I now find my political philosophy more in line with Democrats than Republicans," Specter said in a statement posted on a Web site devoted to Pennsylvania politics and confirmed by his office. Several Senate officials said a formal announcement could come later in the day or Wednesday.

He knew he was going to lose in the Republican primary ... now wouldn’t it be hilarious if he loses in the Democratic primary?

Finally! He was never a real republican anyway-—just a RINO and we needed him out, he needs to take a few others with him, time to clean house.

Making it formal, eh. At least he is being more honest.

I remember when some here, Rick Santorum, and in the George Bush all assured us that Spector was our only hope in PA!

I hope the voters in PA will never vote for the man. I hope that they see that he has but one interest: himself.

It is time we threw out all our representatives. All of these stupid selfserving professional politicians, and started putting good hard workers....people who know what life is all about; who run companies, small businesses, farms and households into office, to truely represent US. People who will vote for what is best for the regular people. I am sick of lawyers and partisan lackeys!

I think you should use a bigger font than that.

After all, your posts are more important than anyone else's.

Perhaps it is good news for the GOP, but it is bad news for the country in the near term. I would expect Snowe and Collins to follow suit very soon since they would not have the weight of being the 60th Dem hanging around their necks. Specter has taken care of that.

Specter has always pleasured his colleagues with his head in the crotch of the male Democrats. Scottish Law? Its about time he was truthful. He and Murtha can serve the Pennsylvanians with relish and give them what they deserve. Good riddance to a self serving RINO.

Arlen Spectacle (c. A regrettable public display, as of bad behavior.) has been a Dim, very Dim for a long, long time anyway.

I'll never forgive him for being Ira Einhorn’s attorney after Einhorn murdered Holly Maddox and stuffed her body in a trunk and kept it in his apartment for over a year.

Einhorn went on the lam in Europe for 20 or more years until he was finally extradited from a reluctant and recalcitrant France after years of effort. Spectacle was his lawyer.

How is it that we have so many incompetents in our government ruining our lives on a daily basis?

What the hell has happened to common sense in this country?

With Sen. Arlen Specter switching to the Democratic Party today, once Sen. Franken gets seated, the party will have their 60 senators needed to stop a Republican filibuster.

Wonder if Snowe and Collins will mutiny as well?

Thanks to George W. Bush we had to put up with 6 more years of this stealth democrat. Had he not backed Specter we would have had a real conservative in office. G.W. Bush was a disaster to Republicans in Pa.

Specter switched because he was not going to win the Republican primary this year because his stealth democrat friend, Bush, was not in office to help him.

Good riddance Specter, as a Pennsylvania conservative republican, I suggest you don't let the door hit you in the ass on the way out!

Why isn’t there at least a mandatory retirement age for these coots in lieu of term limits which seems impossible because of course they’ll NEVER vote themselves off the island.

They don’t even need the 60. They can use the same rules tactic they’re using now on healthcare called reconciliation. Supposedly only for budgets, the Democrats are using their rule power to include huge entitlement programs. So, in the end, ANY Republicans in THIS government are superfluous. Since honesty and integrity no longer matter, honest redress is no longer possible. These acts will drive this country to war.

The good news, ladies and gentleman is that we will have a new ranking republican on the Judiciary committee. So Leahy won’t be dealing with just another democrat anymore. And it probably kicks some other democrat off the committee, unless they make some special arrangement.
