House Republicans are calling on Homeland Security Secretary Janet Napolitano to step down or be fired in the wake of a controversial department memo that has sparked indignant battle cries from conservatives and some veterans.
Singling out political opponents for working against the ruling party is precisely the tactic of every tyrannical government from Red China to Venezuela," said Texas Rep. John Carter, a member of the party's elected leadership who has organized an hour of floor speeches Wednesday night to call for Napolitano's ouster. The first step in the process is creating unfounded public suspicion of political opponents, followed by arresting and jailing any who continue speaking against the regime.
In particular, conservative members of the Republican Study Committee raised repeated concerns about the report and Napolitano's subsequent defense of its findings on Wednesday, calling on party leaders to raise the issue with President Barack Obama during a White House meeting on Thursday.
The Department of Homeland Security issued a report earlier this month warning federal, state and local law enforcement officials that the slumping economy "could create a fertile recruiting environment for right-wing extremists and even result in confrontations between such groups and government authorities similar to those in the past."

Love that photo!
I guess reps are just listening to their constituents on this one......
So does Obama take note and soft pedal the monkey business which is so tempting to these "wingnut" recruits? Eh? Eh?
I doubt Obama will ask for her resignation, as she has been doing exactly his bidding.
It doesn’t matter. It is Obama’s philosophy for there are no terrorists that endangers America. No matter who is in that position, Homeland Security will be looking at Canadians and Conservatives and not Islamic terrorists.

Rep. Michele Bachmann: Has janet Napolitano Gone Mad?
Friday, April 24, 2009 4:40 AM
It didn’t take long for Homeland Security Secretary Janet Napolitano to shoot herself in the foot or for Republicans to make her a target of their opposition to Obama administration policy.
At the heart of the GOP criticism is a recent intelligence analysis from Napolitano’s agency saying veterans returning from Iraq or Afghanistan could be susceptible to right-wing recruiters or commit lone acts of violence.
When conservative bloggers began writing about the report, Napolitano defended the assessment while acknowledging that some of it should have been rewritten. She went on a number of television news shows to apologize and explain her support for and admiration of veterans.
This was not enough for several Republicans who took to the House floor this week to criticize Napolitano, confirmed to her Cabinet position less than 100 days ago.
“Has this homeland security secretary gone absolutely stark raving mad?” said Rep. Michele Bachmann, R-Minn. “She needs to come before Congress. She needs to answer a few questions.” ....

Has anyone ever explained how this woman has such a hold on AZ? Is she a McPain in skirts or something?
I “think” you're correct...although the longer these clowns are around, the better for Conservatives & the GOP come 11/2010...my only concern is that this idiots are putting a LOT of Americans’ lives at risk !
Resign, NOW!
OK Ted, it’s like this. AZ is (broad brush strokes) fiscally conservative and socially liberal. Janet ran to the right fiscally to get elected, the GOP ran a LDS guy against her in 2002 and a big business/open borders type against her in 2006. Had they gone with Don Goldwater in 2006 they might have won
It kind of torque’s me that Napolitano and other nominees were confirmed by unanimous consent in the Senate. So they had the same consideration for these nominees as they have for renaming a building.
“Is she a McPain in skirts or something?”
Speaking of which, (hopefully soon to be ex-Senator) McCain expressed happiness at the firing of the scapegoat, and said he hoped that Ms. Napolitano had learned something.
He’s once again lost a lot of credibility with me. She needs to go, now. It might not change 0bama’s policies, but at least it should give him some pause.
Her re-election campaign consisted of pictures of the ugly he-she next to her father, a retarded looking guy. The mailer read, “This is my daddy.” That's the slop that passes for politics in Arizona.
I'll spare you the creative details of what happened to the one that arrived at my house.
