AP Poll: Americans high on Obama, direction of US
Associated Press ^ | April 23, 2009 | Ron Fourner and Trevor Tompson

For the first time in years, more Americans than not say the country is headed in the right direction, a sign that Barack Obama has used the first 100 days of his presidency to lift the public's mood and inspire hopes for a brighter future.

Intensely worried about their personal finances and medical expenses, Americans nonetheless appear realistic about the time Obama might need to turn things around, according to an Associated Press-GfK poll. It shows most Americans consider their new president to be a strong, ethical and empathetic leader who is working to change Washington.

Nobody knows how long the honeymoon will last, but Obama has clearly transformed the yes-we-can spirit of his candidacy into a tool of governance. His ability to inspire confidence — Obama's second book is titled "The Audacity of Hope" — has thus far buffered the president against the harsh political realities of two wars, a global economic meltdown and countless domestic challenges.

"He presents a very positive outlook," said Cheryl Wetherington, 35, an independent voter who runs a chocolate shop in Gardner, Kan. "He's very well-spoken and very vocal about what direction should be taken."

Other AP-GfK findings could signal trouble for Obama:

_While there is evidence that people feel more optimistic about the economy, 65 percent said it's difficult for them and their families to get ahead. More than one-third know of a family member who recently lost a job.

_More than 90 percent of Americans consider the economy an important issue, the highest ever in AP polling.

_Nearly 80 percent believe that the rising federal debt will hurt future generations, and Obama is getting mixed reviews at best for his handling of the issue.

This is a typical MSM/Roper push poll.

Interestingly, the numbers are not altogether good for Obozo as you can see from the Internals.

As to be expected, AP is spinning as hard as they can for the Libtard.

As I like to remind my democratic “friends”, Bush had 90% approval at one point...and then he had 27% approval not long after.

History is replete with totalitarians who were ‘very well-spoken and very vocal about what direction should be taken”. It's so wonderful that we fought and won the cold war so that we could just implement what the other side wanted anyway.

LOL, what a load of liberal crap! A attempt to form opinion rather then measure it (oh, look what everyone else is saying, you don’t want to be out of step with them, do you?)

Then facts are the internals don’t square with the headline in any way that makes sense.

Per the original article...
“It involved telephone interviews on landline and cell phones with 1,000 adults nationwide.”

Now you tell me how a survey of 1000 people can represent the feelings of 350 million.
Like if I pee in the Atlantic, it offends the folks in california!
Anyone could go to a local Target store and get a larger and probably more statistacally significant sample.

There is no forward momentum for Obama. Americans are widely seperated on his tenure thus far and he’s losing his base. He’s gonna fall - hard. What happens when his birth certificate surfaces? And the college records showing that he’s been funded by leftist radicals all his life?

He is like so tainted. I thought Clinton was arrogant. BO makes the Clintons look like saints.

Slight disconnect with Americans then:

While there is evidence that people feel more optimistic about the economy,

65 percent said it's difficult for them and their families to get ahead. More than one-third know of a family member who recently lost a job.

_More than 90 percent of Americans consider the economy an important issue, the highest ever in AP polling.

_Nearly 80 percent believe that the rising federal debt will hurt future generations, and Obama is getting mixed reviews at best for his handling of the issue

Yet the country's headed in the right direction??? Bizarro world indeed!

circumstances are completely different, you should know that. Bush wasn’t particularly liked prior to 9.11 due to the election fiasco. This poll is under different circumstances because now we have a appeasing socialistic game changer in office that a large segment of our country like because they too want to see the USA become the France of North America. These people get up every morning to practice their new yoga move named after Obama. The Obama is where you bend over and grab your ankles.

What are they smoking. It must be some strong stuff because apparrently they can't handle it. I don't mind folks getting a buzz on but anything that can untether one from reality should be avoided.

What in the world do you do with questions like this:

“CURJ12.When it comes to improving the economy, do you think it is realistic to expect at least some noticeable results in the first year of the Obama administration, or do you think it will take longer than that to see any noticeable results?”

How about we see very noticeable results already and they are all negative and it will get worse? Oh gee, that’s not one of the alternatives.

Or this:
“CUR33b. When it comes to solving the country’s economic problems, how much do you think Republicans in Congress are doing to cooperate with Barack Obama? Alot, moderate amount, not enough, etc.”

How about: It is the job of Republicans to vociferously oppose everything the Democrats and Barack Obama are doing, and they are only doing a mediocre job of raising their voices. Oh, that’s not an alternative either?

These questions are rigged so that it is impossible for a conservative to answer them.
