If you had any doubt that Miss California, Carrie Prejean, lost the crown, if indeed she ever had a chance to win it, with her answer to Perez Hilton's question about states legalizing gay marriage, then read fellow judge Alicia Jacobs' account of her voting. After hearing the answer, Jacobs, a former Miss Nevada USA, writes on her blog, "if I could have made her 51st runner-up, I would have." In a blog item titled "Pretty is as pretty does," Jacobs offers a behind-the-scenes account of the judges and pageant officials involved. Included is Jacobs' account of her reaction as she heard the answer:
"As she continued to speak, I saw the crown move further & further away from her. When she finished, she looked strangely proud for a moment. Personally, I was STUNNED on several levels. First, how could this young woman NOT know her audience and judges? Let's not forget that the person asking the question is an openly gay man, at least 2 people on the judges panel are openly gay. Another judge has a sister in a gay marriage. Her very own state pageant director, KEITH LEWIS is an openly gay man who has been a very generous benefactor of hers...in many ways. (2 ways in particular....if you get my drift??) Did I mention I was STUNNED?"
I don't actually get Jacobs' drift about the "2 ways," but I am sure someone hipper will explain that to me. As for Carrie Prejean, she will be as remembered as well as former Miss Oklahoma Anita Bryant.
Oh, wait, Anita Bryant is still alive. Well, I admit I had to look that up, and my guess is that most of you would too!

BOB BECKEL: Miss USA Flap How About Keeping God OUT of Politics?
The furor over the anti-gay marriage comments made by Miss California, who was competing in the Miss USA contest were both unnecessary and inflammatory. It reminded me of a former gay-bashing beauty contestant, Anita Bryant. The less than brilliant Bryant traveled the country in the 70s spewing hatred towards gays by her hateful speech and support of anti-gay referendums.
I dont know where this woman is now or if she is still alive but her sentiments certainly are among those felt by a minority of Americans who apparently dont believe the Constitution of the United States provides for civil liberties for all our people. Some opponents of gay marriage love to quote the Bible as an anti-gay source.
I am a Christian, read the Bible daily, and attend church at least once a week (hard for some of you wingers to believe, isnt it, that there are born-again Christians who happen to be liberals). I do not believe our Savior would have spoken out in favor of anti-gay referendums. Give onto Caesar what is Caesars.
How about being Good Samaritans and keeping God out of politics?
Having said that, I am appalled that the question was raised at all. Given the fact that the questioner, celebrity blogger Perez Hilton, is gay makes it appear that he is injecting his own politics into what is after all just a beauty contest. Its time to cool the rhetoric on both sides on the gay marriage issue and leave it to state legislatures and the courts which is where the debate belongs.
This judge is literally saying that she EXPECTS contestants to give politically correct answers, even if they are lies.
How disgusting. Miss California was better off losing this disgusting travesty.
They are so close in spelling they are difficult to tell apart without some further explanation.
Why don’t they use this as a STIMULUS, and make 3 crowsn..Mr. Homosexual, Miss Lesbian, and the heteorsexual gal who is Miss Straight America? Why not?
I don't actually get Jacobs' drift about the "2 ways," but I am sure someone hipper will explain that to me.
The word "implants" comes to mind...
Poor, stupid bimbo. She doesn’t recognize moral courage and integrity when she sees it.
No, Miss California gave the right answer. They just didn’t like the answer she gave.
End of story.
That's probably why no one believes you.
Actually, Bob, it's IMPOSSIBLE to justify liberal ideology against the authority of the bible.
So, usually, you just hear liberal "Christians" dismiss the authority of God's Word.
Ms. Prejean had every right to be proud, because she stood up for her beliefs and didn’t kow-tow to some raging homosexual.
Excuse me ~ no one believes whoever that quote is from.
Why was the question asked in the first place ?
Once it was asked Carrie had two choices, to be politically correct or to answer it honestly probably knowing that it could cost her the crown.
Politics should not be brought up in something like this. Its not about politics.
Perez WILLFULLY asked this question with the idea of trying to discredit her. Shame on him (or does Perez prefer to be called her ?).
The question everyone should ask is how did Perez Hilton get the pageant gig in the first place? What contribution to our society has he made and what makes him/her (whatever) qualified to be a judge ?
I’m not sure about “proud”, but she should be at peace with knowing that she pleased God and not The World.
I would have said, “across the country this issue has come up in numerous states and when the public votes they vote against it, live with it!
Unless, of course, you are living in a totalitarian or other type of fascist state.
It was only a “wrong” answer to the homonazis.
