The release of Richard Phillips, the captain of the pirated Maersk Alabama, has become the best Easter gift for his family. It became another reason for all Americans and President Barack Obama to demonstrate their power to the whole world.
However, the return of the captain and his crew does not mean that America keeps its leadership in the world. Quite on the contrary, it shows that the USA has been losing it.
US troops are deployed in 153 out of 192 countries recognized by the United Nations, The Guardian wrote. The White House still spends too much on defense. The US Air Force and the US Navy do not wish to part to their nuclear warheads even now, 20 years after the collapse of the Soviet Union.
It will be eight years this autumn since the US incursion in Afghanistan and six years since their invasion of Iraq. It is longer than the time when US troops participated in WWI and WWII.
US troops had to face the guerrilla warfare in Iraq and Afghanistan, and they are still unable to overcome it. The guerrillas enjoy the support of the local population in the two war-torn countries.
The usual tactics the bombing of villages does not bring any results. Now the USA can launch the anti-piracy operation off the Somali coast. The need of this operation demonstrates the uselessness of the US-led struggle against international terrorism.
Any great world power could conquer Somali with the use of only several battalions within several weeks only, which is unachievable now, because Somali as a state stopped its existence 20 years ago. No one is capable of establishing law and order there.
"the return of the captain and his crew does not mean that America keeps its leadership in the world. Quite on the contrary, it shows that the USA has been losing it."
We'd better start paying attention to what the enemy thinks now... if they are not now our enemies it's obvious they are gearing up to be so.
Pravda might ask why Russia still has scads of nukes pointed at the USA.
Pravda is not a likely friend to America.
This was Pravda? Oops, sorry, I thought it was the New York Times. ;)
“This was Pravda? Oops, sorry, I thought it was the New York Times. ;)”
After perusing the stories on the Pravda, I appreciate the humor. Of course, this makes it look like the New York Times has been taking their cues from the Pravda for many years, eh?
If we have, we will soon be missed.
I believe Pravda is more respectful towards the USA.
So if blowing the pirates out of the water and rescuing the captain means the U.S. is losing it’s world supremacy, then what does pravda think not rescuing the captain means?
Russia loves Obama.
“Any great world power could conquer Somali with the use of only several battalions within several weeks only, which is unachievable now, because Somali as a state stopped its existence 20 years ago. No one is capable of establishing law and order there.”
Can anybody tell me WTH this was supposed to mean? Should it have read “could have conquered”?
Was this googlefished?
Lets see, Russia invaded Afghanistan and went home with it’s tail tucked after ten years, 14,000 dead and 480,000 casualties. They killed an estimated 1 million afghans.
We should take advice from them. /s

WASHINGTON, March 26 (UPI) -- The continuing tensions over Russia's refusal to sell its state-of-the-art land warfare advanced weapons systems to China hasn't interrupted the rhythm of major joint military exercises between the two major land powers on the Eurasian landmass. The latest in the regular, biennial series of exercises between the two nations has been confirmed for this summer.
The next in the now well-established series of exercises called Peace Mission 2009 will be carried out in northeastern China, the Russian Defense Ministry announced March 18, according to a report carried by the RIA Novosti news agency.
The first bilateral Peace Mission maneuvers -- described at the time as counter-terrorism exercises -- were held in Russia and the eastern Chinese province of Shandong in August 2005. As we reported at that time, they were a lot bigger than mere counter-terrorism exercises. Warships, squadrons of combat aircraft and more than 10,000 troops were involved carrying out landings against hypothetically hostile shores. The maneuvers also involved large-scale paratroops drops. The scale and nature of those exercises suggested a trial run for a possible Chinese invasion of Taiwan with Russian support. ..."

Russian nuclear bombers in Cuba?
July 23, 2008
The media has been abuzz today at the prospect of Russian nuclear bombers being stationed in Cuba if the US goes ahead with plans for missile defense bases in Eastern Europe.
The story has riled the US enough that a US general has been wheeled out to tell the worlds press that any Russian attempt to build another nuclear base in Cuba would cross US red line.
The story broke earlier this week, when Russian newspaper Izvestia quoted an un-named source from within the Russian military. He told the Russian daily:
While they are deploying the missile shield in Poland and the Czech Republic, our strategic bombers will already be landing in Cuba.
The quote hasnt been independently confirmed, but the Russian Defense Ministry added fuel to the fire when they refused to comment on the story.
The prospect of Russian nuclear forces being stationed in Cuba - which is, after all, only 90 miles from the US coast - would bring back some rather unpleasant memories for the US of the Cuban Missile Crisis of 1962, where the Soviet Union under Nikita Kruschev launched an audacious and foolhardy bid to station nuclear missiles on the Caribbean island.

I thought TNYT owns Pravda.
If we were playing by Kremlin rules, yes. Just bomb, gas and shoot all of them. It is easy, comrade. Your conscience makes you weak.
Pravda is too far to the right for the NYT.
The two outlets can certainly be confused for one another.
“If we have, we will soon be missed.”
