Back Door Gun Control: Obama Backs Inter-American Arms Treaty That Has Ties To United Nations--
The Washington Post ^ | April 16, 2009 | Scott Wilson

MEXICO CITY, April 16 -- President Obama announced in a visit here today that he will push the U.S. Senate to ratify an inter-American arms trafficking treaty designed to curb the flow of guns and ammunition to drug cartels and other armed groups in the hemisphere. Obama made the announcement after meeting with Mexican President Felipe Calderón this afternoon. The meeting is the centerpiece of Obama's first visit to Mexico, whose government is engaged in a broad war against heavily armed drug cartels threatening the integrity of the state. "The Obama administration's commitment to seek ratification [of the treaty] is important because stemming the number of illegal firearms which flow into Latin America and the Caribbean is a high priority for the region and addresses a key hemispheric concern relating to people's personal security and well-being,"

Exceptional article posted by Carry_Okie that explains how easy it is to slip those treaties by......without even debate, or a record of the vote....how easy it will be to have gun control. Thanks for sharing how it works.
This article explains the import of this move. —didn’t know how to imbed the the link. :(

To achieve their Socialist goals, and to disarm America the Left has revised the status of the Constitution to a “Living, Breathing Document” in order to cause that documents irrelevance. They proceed undeterred in their insanity towards the destruction of our Nation.

The Constitution is the law, it is the foundation of this Nation, and it is, and what has been what we have fought for over 200 years.

Why are we allowing these asshats to do this to our Constitution? Why are we rolling over and letting them have their way with us?

That SOB will use any excuse to ban guns. I say go ahead and try. This will be the tipping point.

We need to petition the Senate like never before on this issue. This “treaty” MUST NOT be ratified. The way it reads, it gives the UN authority to regulate firearms and ammunition in OUR country.

Can a treaty travel through the court system?

I read an AP story in essence blaming the US for providing Mexico with guns and then blaming US demand for drugs...The thing I hate most about liberals is their faulty logic.

No, the logic is flawless, the key is the meme the writer operates on. That template is The US is Evil. With that idea in your mind, the apparent contradiction is perfectly consistent.

This explains all the Obama admin weenies insisting that they had no plans for bringing up gun control legislation. Instead, he plans to put us under the auspices the UN and subject to their gun confiscation policies.

I agree with Obama and that mexican guy.. Seal off the border and prevent anything from getting across, besides through the actual border crossing points.
Then, after we end illicit traffic, drugs, people from coming north and our money from going south, we can move from there.
My solution sounds fair, why drag the UN into it. I’m sure they have plenty of strongly worded letters to write.

I googled Henry Bowman and found a WWII tuskeegee airman who flew P-40s and p-51s in North Africa and Italy...I believe you mean someone else.

I play my cards close to my vest and recommend to anyone else to do the same.

I borrowed a philosophy from JB Books, the John Wayne Character in my favorite Wayne movie, “The Shootist”

"I won't be wronged. I won't be insulted. I won't be laid a-hand on. I don't do these things to other people, and I require the same from them

...the treaty calls for countries to adopt strict licensing requirements,...
... experts say includes language stating that it does not impinge on the U.S. Constitution's Second Amendment.

It would be intresting how this treaty reconconciles those two issues.

IIRC a treaty cannot superced the USC as delineated in Article VI:

This Constitution, and the Laws of the United States which shall be made in Pursuance thereof; and all Treaties made, or which shall be made, under the Authority of the United States, shall be the supreme Law of the Land;

To me that means 2/3 of Senators voting on a treaty cannot overturn any part of the USC. Article V - Mode of Amendment deals with that.

That said I too have not found case law on treaties vs USC; however, this court did issue the Heller decision.

I refer you to USC Art II Sec 2:

{the POTUS} shall have Power, by and with the Advice and Consent of the Senate, to make Treaties, provided two thirds of the Senators present concur;
