After Binghamton, Questions Linger About Easy Access to Guns (20/20 hit piece on guns)
20/20 ^ | April 6, 2009 | CHRIS STRATHMANN and SARAH NETTER

As the nation gets a clearer picture of two killers who have made headlines in recent days -- one near Pittsburgh, one in Binghamton, N.Y. -- some are wondering whether Americans have too much access to guns. ...

"They were all legal," his friend Edward Perkovic said of the weapons. "He had about four guns. I've been in houses where they have gun cases with 20 guns. He had a small, small amount of guns."

"We have 32 people being murdered by guns every day in this country," said Michael Wolkowitz, a board member of the Brady Center, which lobbies for tighter gun restrictions. "If peanut butter or pistachio nuts or spinach killed that number of people once in one day, they'd be pulled by the [Food and Drug Administration]."

Not that it should be a surprise, but everybody who said liberals would turn these murders into an opportunity to destroy the Constitution have been proven right.

The only thing more predictable than the fact that crazy people will commit murder, is that liberals will immediately use it for an anti-gun message

The crazy person killed those people... not the guns. If the defenseless people had their OWN guns they could have stopped him faster.

Guns vs. Doctors (for all of you gun control freaks out there)
Doctors:

- The number of physicians in the U.S. is 700,000.
- Accidental deaths caused by Physicians per year are 120,000. (and they cause millions more with known-to-be-fatal prescription drugs and unnecessary surgeries.)
- Accidental deaths per physician is 0.171.

(Statistics courtesy of U.S. Dept of Health Human Services.)

Guns:

- The number of gun owners in the U.S. is 80,000,000.
- The number of accidental gun deaths per year, all age groups, is 1,500.
- The number of accidental deaths per gun owner is 000188.

(Statistics courtesy of F.B.I.)

Statistically, doctors are approximately 9,000 times more dangerous than gun owners.

Remember, “Guns don’t kill people, doctors do.”

FACT: Not everyone has a gun, but almost everyone has at least one doctor.

Please alert your friends to this alarming threat immediatley. We must ban doctors before this gets completely out of hand!

Note: Out of concern for the public at large, the statistics on lawyers have been withheld for fear the shock would cause people to panic and seek medical attention.

Not only will the libs be attempting to assault the second amendment, but they have the first amendment in their crosshairs also. Because we all know that it was that hateful right wing radio that fomented all of this hostility. Yes, the two most important amendments in the constitution are currently under direct assault by the liberals.

“We have 32 people being murdered by guns every day in this country,”

If they had been able to defend themselves we would have had 32 dead criminals.

My other thought is how many of those 32 dead, were criminals that met up with the wrong law abiding citizen?

"We have 32 people being murdered by guns every day in this country," said Michael Wolkowitz, a board member of the Brady Center,

That's 25% of the number who die in Auto Crashes, 0.01% of the number murdered by suction hoses and 0.005% of the number murdered by tobacco.

Mike, you got bigger fish to fry than gun violence. Get your head out of your @$$!

In my world, it is a capitol offense to attempt to destroy one amendment to the Constitution while basking in the liberty provided by another. There are literally tens of thousand of individuals who are bound by oath to put a stop to the behavior.

This quote brought to you by a totally non-biased source.

And how many people do cars kill every day? This is typical leftist anti-gun rhetoric.

I wonder how many legal guns are owned by Americans. Anybody know? Then I wonder how many legal guns are actually used in the commission of a crime? I bet cars kill or maim a far higher percentage of people than do legal guns.

It would also be interesting to determine how many people are killed or maimed by other weapons—knives, bats, bricks bare hands etc.

Why does the government allow automobiles to be sold. I think the figure is 42,443 deaths per year. 116 per day.

I dont mean to give anyone idea’s ,but I could walk into any building with a quart of gasoline in a glass jar and a rag in the top of it and do as much damage as anyone with a shotgun.

If you are crazy you will find a way.

Don’t put knife legislation past them. They are out to restrict freedom, not save people. They couldn’t give a damn about that.

Take this paragraph: “Gun rights groups argue that the Virginia Tech shooter bought his weapons at a gun shop, not at a show, and that they shouldn’t be held responsible for background checks that didn’t work.” It’s not a matter of opinion. Cho was breaking the law by attempting to buy a gun because he was mentally defective. The background checks DIDN’T WORK because they didn’t stop an illegal gun purchase. What the hell are more laws going to do?

No, you’re all wrong.

There were no murders and no violent crime until the firearm was invented.

He was here on an expired H1B visa... he had TWO registered guns and a CCW permit for both under an illegal and bogus alias... where in the hell does THAT responsibility lie? Which gooberment worker was paid to process this illegal crap... why are the laws on the books not enforced NOW? Blood will run in the streets if they try to take away our Second Amendment!

It is not what you have in your hand that counts; it is what you have in your head or heart that really counts.

Here we have a perfect example of liberal idiocy. We do not have people being murdered “by guns”. We have people being murdered by people. Anybody with half a brain can also look to any part of the country that has “easy access to guns” and compare that to areas like Washington D.C. Anyone notice a pattern in all of this?

No, we need to question easy access to immigrants. Just like Virginia Tech, the shooter was a “diverse” American.
[Wasn’t the Long Island Railroad shooter an immigrant too?]
