North Korea Threatens Military Action on Japan If It Shoots Down Their "Satellite" (ICBM) (Breaking)
Sankei News (quoting North Korean Central News Agency) ^ | 31 March 2009 | Sankei News

As expected (and they do tend to shoot off their mouths a lot with threats and big talk), North Korea delivered "the threat" tonight in an official statement out of their Korean Central News Agency (link to the original Japanese language report). North Korea is threatening Japan with military action if Japan takes down their Taepodong-2 (which they refer to as a "satellite") from the skies this week.

Conservative Japanese daily Sankei (online) reports from Japan (in Japanese) a little while ago:

This kind of ratcheting up, intimidation, and psy war in advance of the launch was expected. It came out of Pyongyang tonight, local time here in Asia. It is only going to rile up more of the Japanese people against that outlaw of a nation, North Korea, and it's pipsqueak pervert of a dictator, Kim Jong il.

Japanese title of article: 北朝鮮が対日警告、「衛星迎撃なら軍事的手段」

My translation: "North Korea Delivers Warning To Japan: You Shoot Down The Satellite, We Will Take Military Measures"

I think NK’s memory is very short, she forgets who Japan is and what she is capable of.

If they are stupid enough to fire it over Japan then they should expect it to be shot down.

If they are serious about launching a “satellite” and not doing this for attention then they can simply put it up over China or Russian airspace with a flight plan that puts it out of range of our missiles.

Where they fire it will show exactly what they are looking to prove.

From Yonhap News:

(LEAD) N. Korea warns of military response should Japan intercept its satellite

SEOUL, March 31 (Yonhap) — North Korea will see any interception by Japan of its satellite launch as an act of invasion and respond with its “most powerful military means,” the country's state news agency said Tuesday.

“Should Japan dare recklessly intercept the DPRK’s satellite, its army will consider this as the start of Japan's war of reinvasion more than six decades after the Second World War,” the Korean Central News Agency (KCNA) said. DPRK is the acronym of the country's official name, the Democratic People's Republic of Korea.

Gates already said, “We can’t”.

What he meant was, “We won’t”.

Pathetic.

I hope Japanese PM Taro Aso doesn’t succumb to North Korea’s threats. They need to shoot down North Korea’s missile(s).

JIJI Press (wire service) in Japan is now carrying it.

The exact quote from North Korea tonight was something like "if they lay a hand on it, we will take the strongest military measures and shall crush into a fine powder Japan's inner citadel" (refering to destroying Japan into a million pieces). (probably thinly-veiled threat to destroy Japan's Imperial Palace)

Japanese: 最も強力な軍事的手段によってすべての迎撃手段とその牙城を無慈悲に粉砕する」と警告した。韓国の聯合ニュースが伝えた

Japan will have to take care of N. Korea, Israel will take care of Iran. Meanwhile HRC wants to negotiate with non-violent Taliban (non-Racist KKK)and Obama wants to play The Apprentice with Detroit...Amazing

Gates comments are only inviting this, IMHO. They (the North) taste weakness all along the Potomac.

Trying to intimidate the Japanese never works unless you actually have an atomic bomb in your pocket.

With all due respect, just what the hell could NK do to Japan anyway, other than lob a few missles their way?

Japan is just likely to go Tora-Tora-Tora on Comrade Chia Pet’s stroke-impaired ASS.

Who doesn’t think that Japan could reduce North Korea’s pathetic military ‘machine’ to wreckage inside of a week?

They would have to, because the Usurper in the White House isn’t going to do jack sh!t.

Why should we? Their last test of a multi-stage missile ended poorly. We (and Japan) will monitor the launch with the land and sea based systems to mine as much data as we can. The NKs and their Iranian counterparts will no doubt be watching what we do. If the NKs have a handful of nuclear warheads (as it’s been reported), they’re too precious to mount on a rocket before it’s proven it works. I don’t see any reason to give the NKs, Iranians, or Syrians any hard information on our capabilities or methods.
