Thanks Metmom. I must be very fortunate to have never known men who view women in such a way. Father, Grandfather, Uncles, friends, pastors, and husband have all shown respect. And never have I known one to ever state their regret about the 19th amendment, even as a joke.

I’m going to make an assumption regarding the few who are commenting against the 19th amendment: They are an extremely small percentage. For thoe few, I feel bad for the women in their life.

I will never quit trying to be a dork. That’s what women tell me anyway...when they’re in a good mood.

It’s what we all live for as men...

As long as the socks are clean and dry and there’s supper in the oven, I’m cool with that.

Do you recall that The Grapes of Wrath were written almost 100 years ago?
>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>

I call that being a little sloppy with language. The book was written about the great depression, it was published in 1939. The 1929 stock market crash was only 80 years ago. The book was published 70 years ago. Almost 100 years ago? I am about to turn 65, am I almost 100 or almost 95?

By the way, The Grapes of Wrath IS a book title and does not call for a plural verb.

I was not eligible to vote when I enlisted in the Navy and most of my cohort were not. The voting age was 21 back then, I don’t think it was a factor in a decision to enlist or not to enlist. What I remember as being resented by almost all was the fact that we couldn’t buy beer on base until we turned 21.

South Carolina has had a reversal since those days. It used to be that the legal age for beer was 18 and the voting age was 21. Now it is reversed.

For all the whining about what women have done to this country, it's surreal that there are men (and a few women) who actually think this way. Fortunately, all the important men in my life don't fall into this category. While not feminists by any stretch of the imagination, they do recognize that women have value beyond being the house maid with "privileges".

So women are more willing to trade trade freedom away for security? Men are more willing to just grab what they want and take away freedom from others by force. Kind of like how they think that they know better than women and make better decisions and this country wouldn’t be in the mess it’s in if women didn’t have the vote.

Nice.

And Free.

You forgot to add free.

That’s just flat out crazy. How can a country ask a man to fight and die defending it, yet deny him the right to vote because he’s not a land owner?
>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>

I served my hitch and was released from active duty BEFORE I was eligible to vote as did many others. The voting age used to be 21, I don’t recall worrying about it. I think if we were going to change anything we should have raised the age for military eligibility to 21 rather than lowering the voting age. Very few 18 year olds have a clue about how to vote, for that matter most 28 year olds don’t have much of a clue.

Landowners might be stretching it. As pointed out, if you’re in the military, you might choose base housing and not actually own property at a given point in time.

That’s why it should be limited to taxpayers!!

A quote, from an arch-villain who still had a good grasp of political realities:
“Power grows out of the barrel of a gun”.

And an organisation who would disagree with being disenfranchised:
“Armed Females of America”

Personally, as I scientist, I’d like to see an experiment. Men had from 1780 to 1920 to run the country. 140 years.

Let’s have 140 years where men can’t vote, and see how that goes. Actually, I think 100 would be enough.

This is great, and I love the discourse. I just wanted you to know who you are dealing with. After all when all the dust settles on this thread and it is behind all. We are still all on the same side here.

You’re reading all those posts from people who actually think that it’s a great idea that women should not have the vote and are blaming women for ruining this country because they think *emotionally* and are nature’s socialists, and you think it’s great?

We’re all on the same side?

I wonder.....

I am reading all the posts regardless of which side they come down on. There are a lot of good rebuttals to what I wrote, I just think they all fall short. But this is great because this is what debate is all about.

We should be able to discuss things like this without worrying about the pc police. People are afraid to say what they think anymore. Why? Because they will be destroyed by the left for their opinion. It is those who are intolerable of other opinions that will inevitably lock us up and throw away the key if we do not stand up to them. And we do it by having healthy debates, even about stupid idiotic ideas that will never happen.

As Mama used to tell me, “A pore excuse is better’n none, son.” Go play with your light sabre and don’t be botherin’ Grandpa, be good now.

I am a male, and married to a wonderfully strong conservative female. I was born into a very liberal family, and it is my wife who has shown me the benefits of conservatism, and the dishonesty of liberals. She would be horrified by some of these comments.

Men and women are different, and make decisions in different ways. To be successful, a political party must find ways to reach both men and women, as well as minorities. I am not suggesting they change their values, but they certainly need to get their message out more effectively.

To win elections the GOP must first show that they can govern conservatively. They haven’t done that in recent years. Then, they need to find a way to present their conservative values effectively to all. The ideas will appeal to many segments of society if they are presented well.

The GOP has failed in these two things. By not recognizing this and instead trying to blame it on the 19th amendment, we are just digging ourselves deeper into the hole. Hope this is a very small group of individuals.
