Gen. Petraeus: U.S. no less safe under Obama By Michael O'Brien Posted: 03/29/09 10:12 AM [ET] General David Petraeus countered recent suggestions by former Vice President Dick Cheney on Sunday that the United States is less safe under the Obama administration.

“I wouldn’t necessarily agree with that,” Petraeus said during an appearance on CNN where he was asked about Cheney's comments.

In an interview on CNN two weeks ago, Cheney defended Bush administration interrogation policies and the detention camp in Guantanamo Bay as making the U.S. safer. He criticized Obama for announcing changes to U.S. interrogation policies, which he said had foiled terrorist attacks on the U.S.

Pressed about Cheney's comments, Petraeus did not directly criticize U.S. interrogation policies that some have said amounted to torture. But in offering a defense for traditional U.S. "values," he also did not defend Cheney's remarks.

“I think that there is in fact a good debate going on about the importance of values in everything we do,” Petraeus said. “It is hugely significant to us to hold so dear to the values we’ve fought for over the years,” he said.

He didn’t counter it, and he didn’t say we are no less safe.

That’s all the headline writer and article writer putting words in his mouth.

the media is trying to get the general into a political hotspot. Whatever the answer, yes or nay, they’re going to either use it as a weapon against the general or against Republicans

He is trying to say what he can without a Chain of Command violation (and that is not much). By Petraeus saying that we are not less or more safe under Obama is an admission that we are, indeed, LESS safe.

" Gates, appearing on Fox News Sunday. said the increased troops would help stabilize Afghanistan in the near term. “I think the long term objective is to still see a flourishing democracy in Afghanistan.” " But the long term objective for Iraq is ... failure? The long term objective for our military is ....? Gen. Petraeus, I understand, will watch his words. Gates ... I'm begining to wonder.

He has to be carefull for obvious reasons. On the other hand we have no clue of his political leanings.

He's a soldier who can't criticize the CIC even if he wanted to. So far, LBJobama hasn't changed anything.

Pray for America and Our Troops

““It is hugely significant to us to hold so dear to the values we’ve fought for over the years,” he said.”

And isn’t one of those abiding values TRUTH? Why not state the TRUTH, that America is naturally LESS SAFE under a radical leftist president?

Right! "“I wouldn’t necessarily agree with that,”" becomes "General David Petraeus countered recent suggestions by former Vice President Dick Cheney on Sunday that the United States is less safe under the Obama administration."

Brazen!

I have been trying to wrap my head around why Gates is still there.... I mean from an administration that has done everything in its power to distance itself from the previous admin.... why would they keep Gates around? I had thought that it was b/c someone, somewhere actually had an 1/8th of a brain in their head... but now, with having some time to digest this new administration... I wonder if this isn't all a set up to try and insulate Obambi and his ilk from anything that might go wrong in Afghan by yet again trying to blame it on Bush/Cheney. Any thoughts?

lets see if we are safer under this idiot.

Russia right now is building their nuclear weapons
Russia is building their conventional military a lot
Russia is now sending navel patrols around the top of Norway and the arctic to AK
Russia is deploying military to south and central America

North Korea is full steam ahead on their weapons programme and is laughing right now in front of phony

China is building up their military and taking over assets in this country.

Islamic nutjobs are going to be released and even talk of them being released int to the streets of America because they might be harmed back in their country.
charges have bene postponed against one and others can soon get the pathetic liberal group of the ACLU on their side with tax payers money

Islamic nutjobs like Hamas and Hezbollah are coming across our southern border

which brings me onto the southern border

The phony and his ilk are ignoring the problem and saying ,”well it has not come over here the violence and it is not a huge problem”
They say something and then do something else as Napolitano has always done.

Our military is being cut with spending and future weapons and equipment is bring cancelled or postponed.

Are we safer

NO CHANCE and it is not like the General can say otherwise as CNN knew this but hey they got their headline and twisted the story to back their messiah and they wonder why they lose rating.

What the hell is he supposed to say?

Exactly, is he supposed to telegraph the enemy that now is the time to attack because zer0 is an idiot?

Only enemies of America (dems) would do such a thing. Our guys do not sacrifice the security of this Nation for political reasons

As an Active Duty Officer, Petraeus is very limited in what he can say about Chain of Command publicly.

Expect the biased left leaning media to twist anything said to favor Obama.

Don’t forget, when Petraeus spoke under the Bush administration, it was Hillary who said his words “required a willing suspension of disbelief.”

Now, they will twist and embrace what they can twist to bolster their own shortcomings into positives.

I'm guessing they were smart enough to know that when it comes to Defense, the Zero team is in way over their paygrades.
