Following overwhelming House passage last week, the Senate tonight voted 74 to 14 on a procedural move that essentially guarantees a major expansion of a national service corps, a cornerstone of volunteerism that dates back to the era of President Kennedy. Its akin to a call to arms by President Obama, who has harkened back to those early days to demand giving back by those who voted for him.
In fact, Senator Edward M. Kennedy, the senior Democrat from Massachusetts whose battle with brain cancer has oft kept him absent from the Senate these days, appeared on the floor to welcomes all around as he cast his approving vote as a co-sponsor.
From President Kennedys days to the creation of Americorps by then President Bill Clinton, the notion of public service has become a rallying cry. Tonights vote, propelled by President Obamas urging of an expansion, would mean a growth in such work from 75,000 community service jobs to 250,000.
According to the Congressional Budget Office, the cost of the Senate bill at least would be an outlay for the fiscal year 2010 of $418 million to about $5.7 billion from 2010 through 2014.
Its an historic vote in the sense that a national service corps, an army dispersed to help with education, health services and the environment, would vastly enlarge the notion of community organizing, and allow, as Senator Barbara Mikulski, Democrat of Maryland, said tonight, for about 7 million people to be engaged in such work.

Please add me to your Senate 277/HR 1388 ping list. Thank you!
I’m sorry... The elected official’s comment was on a different thread. Here’s the quote and a link...
A Democrat Congressman yesterday said they will use whatever means necessary to reinstate the off-shore drilling ban and make it permanent.
One way or the other, it will be reinstated, said Inslee. One way or the other, by any means necessary.
We are off the Pacific coast, and there would be a civil war, said Inslee. There would be something like a secessionist movement if there was a serious attempt to [permanently] remove the moratorium.

When Christians are put in these “camps” for re-education, be like Daniel and pray anyway.
Two words:
Campaign Finance Reform
(I threw in an extra word for free)...
You know that they will be carrying some form of the Obama logo. I GUARANTEE IT.
Welcome to the Obama youth camps. Get your blue shirts and prepare for indoctrination.
Lesson #1 “some of your parents may not understand what we are trying to do here. If you are having a problem explaining this to your parents please let one of our staff or your counselor know so we can help explain the process and our goals to your parents.
Lesson #1 translation- if your parents disagree with “the One” (the fuhrer) tell one of your handlers so they can be re-educated in another camp.
“You know that they will be carrying some form of the Obama logo. I GUARANTEE IT.”
Well, naturally. It’s a camp, um, campus. Every time I go to camp I get a camp t-shirt, they’re all one matching color and have the camp logo. Builds unity of purpose and a sense of community.
It’s natural that these camps will too, and if they have the red, white and blue “laundromat washing machine window” that Obama uses, what could be more natural?
The Boy Scout logo has an eagle and a flag, doesn’t it? And they do indoctrination at Scout camp, with that whole flag and oath thing, so what’s to worry about?
As for camps for adults, just because every communist takeover in history has resulted in the death or incarceration of 30% of the adult population does not mean it will happen here. If you continue to fret about it, we’ll recommend this voluntary tranquilizer to ease your anxiety, it’s only 800 mg of Haldol in a cherry flavored syrup. You like cherries, Munz?
Or would you like to see what’s in Room 101?
We’ll pray while pulling triggers and the kids are reloading magazines.
Section 6104 has a provision for the Commission to determine if a reasonable manadatory requirement can be set.
Guess all they have to do is say “Yes” and it’s done.
Let’s face it; you need a lot of people to escort women to abortion clinics, protect gay “out-festivals” and shut down churches.
Freep time is limited, but is this the Obambi civilian corp?
(3) COMPLIANCE WITH INELIGIBLE SERVICE
CATEGORIES.Service carried out by a volunteer receiving funds under this section may not provide a direct benefit to any
(A) business organized for profit;
(B) labor union;
(C) partisan political organization; or
(D) religious or faith-based organization for the purpose of proselytization or sectarian worship.
Thank you! I had been searching for keywords.
The “get out the vote” prohibition is gone, since A.N.S.W.E.R and ACORN and the others are nonpartisan!
And, if I read the camp, um, campus section correctly, those volunteers don’t get paid- I could find nothing about that.
I just looked at p 160 in the As-reported-in-senate version, and the text is stricken-out, it was removed from S 277 as reported.
When I C&P the strikethru disappears. In fact the entire Volunteers For Prosperity section is struck-through.
Spoke too soon, I found it on p471, they re-wrote teh VFP stuff. The prohibitions apply to Volunteers for Prosperity, not, apparently, the Obama Yoot Corps in the camps, uh, campuses, or the other service orgs. I wonder why only VFP can’t do these things?

Suddenly 5 months later, Voila! Here comes a bill almost identical to his proposal only introduced by a Democrat in Congress.
INDEED.
And worship and sing . . . that really drives the demonic forces crazy.
Whatever color you were wearing before they took it from you.
Thanks for good list. Emailed all 23 yeh sayers.
