Kroft to Obama: Are you punch-drunk (Obama jokes about "gallows humor")
Politico ^ | March 22, 2009 | Craig Gordon

Posted on 03/22/2009 4:20:01 PM PDT by RDTF

President Barack Obama said he believes the global financial system remains at risk of implosion with the failure of Citigroup or AIG, touching off “an even more destructive recession and potentially depression.”

His remarks came in a “60 Minutes” interview in which he was pressed by an incredulous Steve Kroft for laughing and chuckling several times while discussing the perilous state of the world’s economy.

“You're sitting here. And you're— you are laughing. You are laughing about some of these problems. Are people going to look at this and say, "I mean, he's sitting there just making jokes about money—” How do you deal with— I mean: explain. . .” Kroft asks at one point.

“Are you punch drunk?” Kroft says.

“No, no. There's gotta be a little gallows humor to get you through the day,” Obama says, with a laugh.

At this point I will take Biden. I used to rant against Clinton daily but now the idea of returning to the Clinton presidency seems almost idyllic. I have a hard time imagining that Biden would be any worse than this. We could have grabbed any drunk from the gutter and chances are he would have cleaned up to be better than this.

If a person has any core character and competency the office of president should bring out their best. It seems to bring out the very worst of this %^^&*()_+.

Destruction proceeds much more rapidly than construction so he has plenty of time to enjoy life. Considering what he is doing we should hope he becomes too lazy to lift a finger.

This case continues to grow legs. Also, Obama’s birth certificate may display a bogus address further adding fuel to the fire.

I posted something similar on FR hours before Mark Hemingway wrote what he did in the NRO Corner—I’d bet anything that the particular crack to describe the Portuguese Water Dog was just a tacky play on words- and not originally from him-I bet it’s the work of his “better half”-probably making fun of him for his pretentious choice of dog—the Honolulu Homie didn’t learn that expression at the Punahou School—that’s more the “Chicago way”...

He can fight us all. His own party is easy for him to manipulate. They will not turn on him. We will not be one country when this is over. Sorry.

I noticed the same kind of laughter from a number of the Dem talking heads right after Zero’s election: Lanny Davis, in particular, when he was on FOX. I saw it as a two-edged sword, expressing on the one hand a kind of cocky confidence and swagger that they’d finally gotten what they’d wanted, and the accompanying easygoing contempt for the “losers”, and on the other hand a kind of barely concealed nervousness that they’d ‘inherited’ a situation they KNEW they’d “also” created, and had NO REAL PLAN to rectify, or get out of, or really bring the country back to economic health. This post indicates it’s finally reached their Idiot Figurehead , Obama. Everybody is a little incredulous at who this man is turning out to be, and this kind of thing seems to go on in fits and starts every single day, proving just how insulated the New Rulers have made themselves even from the MSM that was instrumental in getting them elected. I , along with millions of others, DON’T want to have to say “We told you so!”, we just want all of them OUT!

He’s not in the least bit overwhelmed. He’s taking weekends off. He parties every Wed night. Everything’s going according to plan. Soon we’ll be attacked. That will thrill him.

You seem to have nothing to say but to whine about folks exercising THEIR franchise in accord with THEIR principles. Why don’t you give it a rest? (And I voted for Sarah Palin and what’s his face.) THEIR vote is theirs and should they vote for a third party, it is NONE OF YOUR BUSINESS. That is NOT casting a vote for Obambi no matter HOW you try to slice it and dice it. True, it’s a vote that was not cast for McLame, but then he did absolutely ZIP to earn their votes to begin with (or mine, either, for that matter, but I didn’t vote for HIM, but for HER). You are treading on the wrong side of personal attacks and abuse, studly.

I agree, Abb. But how do we take his power away? We have to arm ourselves.
Here’s what I’ve come up with so far as ways to help defeat Liberalism:
1. Plan to work for and contribute to the campaigns of Republicans who might win Democratic seats in 2010. If you are anti RNC, you can bypass them and go directly to the candidates.
2. Write editorials and letters to your local newspapers, party publications, Conservative sites.
3. Talk to moderate friends: Committed Libs are a lost cause. Even moderates are hard to talk to because they are usually Libs in disguise. But I did present the Conservative, anti Messiah case to a woman last week, who said, “Oh, I wasn’t aware of that”(facts about the Bamster’s radicalism)..Geez.
Any more suggestions from Freepers?

Show up at the nearest 4/15 Tea Party. And bring a friend or two.

Another revealing window into his soul.

What the Teleprompter-in-Chief is really laughing at is the American people. He laughs at the people who work hard to have a home, feed their families, and try to be the best they can be. He is laughing at us, the people who make the country work. He has never held an honest hardworking job in his life. It's no wonder he has no concept of real hardworking Americans and their daily lives. He looks down on people that are not in his elite world.

Remember what he said in San Fran during the campaign last April to an elite - an very wealthy - audience: "You go into some of these small towns in Pennsylvania, and like a lot of small towns in the Midwest, the jobs have been gone now for 25 years and nothing's replaced them. And they fell through the Clinton Administration, and the Bush Administration, and each successive administration has said that somehow these communities are gonna regenerate and they have not. And it's not surprising then they get bitter, they cling to guns or religion or antipathy to people who aren't like them or anti-immigrant sentiment or anti-trade sentiment as a way to explain their frustrations."

There's no surprise he would crack cruel jokes about the Special Olympics or laugh at economic despair. It's who he is.

As Rush says, he is waging a war against the successful on behalf of life's losers; it's all about getting even with them. He's got a huge chip on his shoulder. He let it out again last night.

Emergency work can be distressing but humor is a coping strategy which contributes to emergency workers’ adjustment to difficult, arduous and exhausting situations.

Humour enhances communication, facilitates cognitive reframing and social support, and has possible physical benefits.

Me, too, and I warned most of them well before election day. Obama proved to be the perfect candidate (as Clinton was) for people who are “new” to politics: people, usually young and with no perspective, who are finally “roused” out of their apathy by this bright shining entity who comes down from the Heavens to make things right. These bright shining entities turn out not to be idealists themselves, but the opposite: opportunistic craven thugs hungry for power, all in the service of what they once told themselves was idealism. Funny how things work out that way. If our political life had not been so successfully dumbed-down already, people like Obama would never be able to come out of their natural habitat, which is the woodwork they should all remain hidden in, like cockroaches.

So, do you think it is appropriate for emergency workers to joke about catastrophes which occurr on the job ON NATIONAL TELEVISION? Was anyone laughing during Katrina because it was stressful?

If he needs to laugh as a stress relief, he should do it where the world is not watching, because it is upsetting for those who are negatively effected by his decisions.

Those who are loosing their homes and their jobs are not laughing, I guarantee you that.

By the way, are you defending him?
